World 90's X-men Animated Series finally being released on DVD!

I'm excited about this news, but I'm not going to purchase them right away.

Maybe once they're all released, we'll get a boxed set with all the episodes? Heh, probably not ...

I'm going to wait and see how these releases turn out before I buy them.

y don't they just release the complete seasons?

We dont know that they arent... considering the fact that they are two disc sets, I think that there is a very good chance that we'll be getting all season one episodes on Vol.1 and all season two on Vol.2.

yeah they wouldnt release it all at one shot. people could just "never heard they were out" and theyd miss on sales. by giving it to you piece by piece they ensure more hype and that way you wont pay a ridiculous price for all of them at once. its like paying a bi-monthly fee to get to all of them. they want ta hook ya.

^ thats rare and most people who get into it later, dont like it. so props for that.

Aw, thanks!

Oh, do I ever know how most people don't like it. It's like everyone's either with the Evo camp or they're with the TAS camp, but it's rare that someone will actually like them both. I do enjoy Evo more,
but TAS was fun in it's own way, too. Sure the animation wasn't as good as Evo, but the characterization was awesome. Not to mention some really funny moments and stuff.

It's a classic 90's cartoon and wasn't heavily censored like the animation of today is, eventhough it was aimed at kids.

I keep meaning to tell my brother about this. I don't know if he ever watched it back in the days when he collected comics, but he might be happy to know it's on dvd, you never know. I think superheroes have brought us a little closer, as corny as it sounds. (We talked all about comic book movies after seeing Iron man.) I was thinking it would be so fun to watch it with him when it comes out.

...I have no friends who are geeks. That's why a fangirl like myself thinks watching TAS with my older brother sounds like a fun experience.
It would be, but it does sound kind of wierd to me. Most 23 year old young ladies go shopping and watch chick flicks. Me? I want to watch X-Men with my older brother and argue why Gambit is better then Wolverine.
(Or just watch it with him and get teased for drooling over Gambit or something.)

I would say the proportions though of TAS are more akin to the comics. Xmen Evo's drawings seemed like most other WB11's distorted proportions. I don't think Evo is bad though. fangirl thing is cool too. my little sister watches xmen TAS with me now.

Great news. I was almost about to buy the entire series for on obscene price.

i thought the animated series had a great art style. atleast, up until half way through season 4 when they changed it..:csad:

but b4 that it looks just like a comic book brought to life!

yeah they were trying a last attempt to attract younger kids so ... looks like they changed the animation to WB11 style? or magic school bus style?

i noticed in the first few seasons they had 3 layers of shading. i think in the last season they might only have 1 or 2

Actually the changed occurred halfway through the 5th season

It was the only way to keep the series on the air. The original studio, Graz Entertainment, who did the animation for the show went bankrupt and closed down. Bc of that Saban Entertainment, who owned TAS was forced to do the animation themselves which resulted in the difference noted

ok, for some reason I thought there was only 4 seasons. I prolly shoulda just said last season. (I'm assuming 5 was it.)

and it's good to know they had a good excuse for changing art styles, and didn't just cheap out for money:woot:

The Wikipedia page has some interesting information about it. There was originally supposed to be 4 seasons with Beyond and Evil (the arc which had Psylocke and the Jean/Scott wedding) being the finale, but Fox bought more episodes at the last minute. The 5th season was more random and unlike the others, it lacked a theme or overall story arc. IMO it wasnt as good as the others. They kinda dropped the team aspect and many of the episodes only featured 3, maybe 4 characters. Jean, my favorite character only had 2 episodes. There was a Sinister flashback episode which featured none. I beleive Wolverine, Beast and Jubilee got the most airtime here. None of the episodes really stood out either.

no, it wasn't as good as the others, but it was still good. (the 1st half more than the second)

btw, I loved the sinister origin story. it was completely awesome, and a lil creepy. (in a good way)but I might be a lil biased, since he's my favorite villain.:oldrazz:

I think my favorite season was season 3 with the Phoenix and Dark Phoenix saga for obvious reasons. Those were among my favorite episodes

What?? How are Evo's character designs at all distorted? Have you seen what kind of stuff they churn out on Nickalodeon and Cartoon Network?
Evo is realistic, not distorted. Some of the best animation
I've ever seen. Maybe you could explain your view to me because I don't think I understand it.

Besides, I don't recall the WB (Now the CW) having many other cartoons starring human characters. As it is now, they've got things like anime and flash cartoons, starring animals that are drawn really wierd. Well, now they have Spiderman, but aside from that I think all there is now is TMNT for American animation. Back in the day I think all they had besides Evo that was drawn well and didn't look like crap was Static Shock.

Great news, everyone! These two DVD volumes are, in fact, in order and the two volumes will lead up to the end of the Phoenix Saga, which was well into the series third season! So, those of you hoping for full seasons are getting more than what you've asked for. Check it out.

Evo is realistic, not distorted.

How is Evo not distorted? I mean yeah if you compare to most nick stuff. But even compared to the comics, Evo is definitely distorted and even further than how a head shape would be in real life.

It's just that it's not distorted. The heads aren't bigger then the bodies,
the noses, eyes, mouths and ears on the characters are all in proportion to the faces. What more do you want? Okay, so they're different from the comics, but that's a complete given because they're two different mediums. One is still and one is in action. Comic book artists can afford to be realistic, but people working on cartoons usually can't.

If anything, I would actually say that the comics are the distorted ones.
Very few men have muscles that big and not many women have boobs
the size of a small turkey, so I don't know where you're getting this
proportion and distortion argument from.

This really isn't the place for this anyway since the thread is on TAS and not Evo. If you want to debate, let's take it over to the Evo thread, okay?

Whats great is these two volumes pretty much make up 2 1/2 seasons.

Im saying it looks more cartoony and less detailed. Sorry distorted was the wrong word. The proportions definitely match well in Evo, I was talking about the way they chose to draw them and detail them.
