A contradiction?

The thing that disgusted me was the bat-**** delusional cluelessness of thinking that Heath Ledger's loved ones would enjoy seeing a bunch of fans dressed up as a psychotic clown-killer at Heath's funeral.
Heh heh...

Yesterday, at work, I was watching some extensive coverage of this story on CNN. One lady from the housekeeping staff was watching it with me and shaking her head. "Why do they do it?" She asked me. I mean, they have everything!"

We're all familiar with past incidents of celebrities dying from drug overdose. I think a lot of people (including myself) initially looked at this story, and assumed that this was another suicide, and started to wonder why he (apparently) killed himself. The first news reports led us on, by emphasizing certain aspects of the story that made it sound especially suspicious.

For the major news media, a celebrity suicide is more intriguing, more scandalous and interesting than an accident, or other various stories of people dying around the world in more commonplace or lower profile incidents. It keeps more people glued to the channel, and for longer periods of time.

That's the way the media works these days. It will only get worse.

The fact that you are essentially marginalizing the man's life by writing it off as "OMG! TEH JOKER DIEDZ!" and showing regret for no reason other than that. That Batfans (most of them, that is...not all) seem to have no concern for the fact that he left behind a three year old daughter who will now never know her father or that a human being died. All they care about is that THE JOKER died. If you can't see the difference, well, that is your problem.

This is the second time I've seen you criticizing the way people feel over Ledger's death, the first being in the Batforums the night he died.

What's so important about the way people have to feel about this? Many Batman fans only liked Heath Ledger because he was the new Joker, and because they like how his performance is turning out. So what? They're allowed to feel bad that an actor they were beginning to idolize has passed away. I'm not sure if you've visited the forums since you were run out of there that night after telling people how to grieve, but I've read some pretty heartfelt aknowledgements that go out to Heath and his family. I haven't seen anyone, besides the one or two usual pricks, say anything truly disrespectful. Are they wondering how his death will impact the film? Sure, they're fans...that's what they do. Life goes on.

None of us knew Heath personally, therefore we all have different reasons for mourning his death. Maybe for a teen comedy he made a long time ago that someone loved, or a controversial movie for which he was nominated for an Oscar, or his upcoming turn that would have surely shot him to startdom. Maybe you don't like Heath Ledger and just feel bad for his family and that a young man's life is over too soon. Either you, people are allowed to feel however they choose to feel. That's life.

First of all, it was a TWO-year old daughter (not bad for a batfan that says "OMG TEH JOKER DIEDZ!" eh?). I am not the one marginizing the man's life. You guys are the ones that dont care for the guy, so why are you blasting the people that do?

Whilelm-Scream, I think people would take your posts more seriously if they actually made some kind of sense rather than purposely being a jerk with a rolley-eyes smiley at the end of it.

what's really sad is it took Heath Ledger's death to bring Matt and Wilhelm to some kind of agreement of opinion :O

I think Matt may be over exaggerating a little bit. I don't think there are THAT many people in the Bat forums that go overboard on Ledger's death just because he is/was the Joker. True there are some that are just kinda losing a grip on the whole thing, one person posted something about each forum member or Batman fan holding a memorial for Ledger in their towns or city. Now that is ridiculous. The guy isn't someone like Martin Luther King Jr., here for god's sake, come on.

What's really going to be interesting is what happens if Ledger doesn't do that good a job in the role?

this is a good point . . . especially considering that one of the first reports I read stated (and I quote), "pills were found strewn about" [the
scene where Ledger was found dead]

what the FK!? it's not accurate to any degree . . . they found prescription pill bottles neatly sitting on his nightstand . . . :down hardly the scene visualized by stating they were 'strewn' about

I don't get this idea, of denying that it's all Joker-based, and saying that instead it's because he's such a great actor who has been in such great movies.

Clowning Around (1992) - Never heard of it.

Black Rock (1997) - Never heard of it.

Paws (1997) - Never heard of it.

10 Thing I Hate About You. (1999) - utter crapola

Two Hands (1999)
- Never heard of it.

The Patriot (2000)
- Utter Crapperoni

A Knight's Tale (2001) - An Abomination, a crime against cinema.

Monster's Ball (2001)
- Laughable crap.

The Four Feathers (2002)
- Heard of it, sounded boring, got bad reviews. *shrug*

The Order (2003)
- Lame

Lords of Dogtown (2005) - Who cares? They...skateboard? lol

The Brothers Grimm (2005)
- Just sad.

Brokeback Mountain (2005)
- Let me get this straight...It's a movie about two cowboys, who fall in love and revel in ****ing eachother secretly, and then, they can't anymore? Wow. Never was on my "Movies To Watch" list.

Casanova (2005)
- :barf:

Candy (2006)
- Never heard of it.

I'm Not There (2007) - Sounds mildly interesting. I'll never see it. Bob Dylan sucks. Oddly, his only album that I love was after he became a Christian, "Slow Train Coming".

The Dark Knight (2008) - AWESOME!!! CAN'T WAIT!!! THIS IS GONNA RULE!!! They don't have to waste time with the origin story and setting it all up! The JOKER!! W-I-C-K-E-D!!! Look at the new armor!!

lol, they're mourning the Joker, not "one of the greatest actors of his generation".

I'm sorry, but you sound the biggest a**hole in the world, right there.

It's false report like that makes people jump to conclusions and saying he had committed suicide, that he's stupid and a coward for choosing to take his own life and therefore deserves no pity. Sick.

Btw, I've stopped watching the news when it comes him. I'll wait until the facts of the investigation emerges.

How will you know if you don't watch the news about him?

Didn't they say yesterday it'll take about 10 days? In 9 days I'll watch. Or someone will tell me about it if the result of the investigation is out before then.

Because I haven't heard of many of HL's movies, and didn't like some of the ones I saw, and am not interested in others...and I don't agree that he was one of the greatest actors who ever lived...I sound like a bigger ass**** than
  • the Grand Dragon of the KKK
  • the guys who want to disrupt HL's funeral and talk about how he's roasting in Hell right now
  • the people who think that women are sub-humans who shouldn't be allowed to speak
  • the people who enjoy sexually abusing children and write about it......
WoW

I,...can't relate to your standards there, at all.

There's nothing wrong with never hearing of some of his movies, or not liking them. You don't even have to feel bad that the dude is dead. But to make jokes about it and be disrespectful doesn't make you come off like the badass you want to be, just a dumbass.

*ATTENTION USERS OF THE HYPE*

I have never joked about HL's death here.
It is a sad thing.

I have been talking about some of the embarrassing, socially inept over-reactions to his death.
I am not happy that he died.
He was a fine actor.

Don't make false accusations about me.
Please show me where I joked about his death or was disrespectful on the Hype.

If anything, I've called for people to respect his loved ones by refraining from going to his funeral dressed up like a psychotic clown-killer.

Ironically, you're pretty much saying the same thing as the original poster, only for a different reason. The answer is the same; it stems from exposure and proximity.

Ledger is in the public spotlight, and was even before his death because he was a celebrity. Therefore more people are going to care about him than that family that died, purely due to the fact that they know more about him than they do them. (In an unrelated note, but one that somewhat illustrates my point, one of my friends had a death in their family that same night Ledger died. As a person, I feel more for that death because I know someone affected by it and can sympathize and mourn by association, but here I am talking about Ledger, so it may appear that I care more about him, simply because I'm engaging in a conversation that he is the topic of.)

Same with Wilhelm, sure, he's not a bigger a**hole than the leader of the KKK or a pedophile or the like, but we've just been exposed to his opinion (which in MY opinion doesn't make him an a**hole in the slightest, but work with me here) and not the opinions of those pedophiles and Klansmen, so at this moment in time, when Wil's alledged a**holery is forefront in our minds, he may seem to be the bigger a**hole (to those who think he is one).

Okay, good point. Let me rephrase. What you said makes you sound like an a**hole.

I'm going to start an appreciation thread for the stunt guy who died while making the film. His life was worst just as much as Heath's.

Oh Yeah .. Brad Renfro died not too long ago .

Anyway Heath's death is tragic by all counts . He was exposed to the public and so people feel somewhat connected . It's almost like you know the person even though you really don't. In a perfect world we would acknowledge everyone's death but it's not going to happen . I don't blame people for that either.

this is a good point . . . especially considering that one of the first reports I read stated (and I quote), "pills were found strewn about" [the

That type of thing, plus my own experiences with media are the reasons I do not believe anything at face value. Question everything.
