Honeybees dying off, update as to why.

I was wondering what ever happened to the Hive Collapse story. It disappeared from the media a few years ago. Well at least now we know what is behind the bee deaths. Good to hear that some of the Europeans are correcting the problem but we here in the U.S. will drag our feet on it for a few years.

The US will make it a political wedge issue and dismiss is as a hoax.

You will be dismissed as a tree hugging hippie who thinks bees are more important than people if you think anything should be done about it.

So it will be just another Tuesday.

They havent died, they've just left for their homeworld..

Bees are more important than people. Bees dying would create a butterfly effect that leads to the death of plants, then the animals that feed on them.

People dying here and there doesn't effect anyone except themselves.

Cold? Maybe. But it's fact.

The honeybees die off because enterthemadness touches himself at night. :o

This made me really sad. Honeybees are our bros... wasps on the other hand. :cmad:

Another species would take their place. There are other animals who pollinate flowers. Moths, butterflies, Hummingbirds.....

:applaud

Our ecosystem will surely be effected when they die off, they're very important for plant pollination. I can see more species dying off because of the bees dying.
The one species I see dying off is the Pooh bear.:csad:

I don't think all these species you cited can really replace all the billions of bees in our planet. The bees may not die off all at once, but it is a very serious problem and I hope the world community will treat it as such instead of dismissing it like they did with global warming.

The bees have been dying off for years and years. Every few years stories like this pop up.

But isn't that what evolution teaches us? Whenever there is a species that dies out, another one rises to take its place. You can see it several times throughout the fossil record. Animals like Allosaurus and Tyrannosaurus Rex seperated by millions of years, but have the same niche in their environments. The only thing I see being a big factor would be the time span involved. Although one could say the event that cause the extinction of the dinosaurs was fairly quick.

Environmentalism, like any religion, requires fear and ignorance to allow it to hold sway. Bees, moths, butterflies, hummingbirds all hold pretty much the same spot in the environment. If some decrease in numbers, others who aren't affected by the problem will increase in numbers. The sad thing would be we would start losing out on that byproduct, honey. If for no other reason, we should find a way to keep them from all dying for that alone.

People have forgotten how apostrophes are used.

"If the bee disappears from the surface of the earth, man would have no more than four years to live."
-Albert Einstein

Think about it. Plants don't get pollinated, they die off. This kills off the herbivores/vegetarians. Once they died, the carnivores have nothing to eat.

Technology has come a long way since his time. I'm sure the human race could live for way more than four years.

While technology has advanced considerably, it still cannot do what bees do. We've tried.

Yeah, because honeybees are the only animals that pollinate plants.

http://www.fws.gov/pollinators/

These hard-working animals help pollinate over 75% of our flowering plants, and nearly 75% of our crops. Often we may not notice the hummingbirds, bats, bees, beetles, butterflies, and flies that carry pollen from one plant to another as they collect nectar.
While Einstein's Theory of Relativity revolutionized Quantum Mechanics, quoting a such a man on the environment is akin to quoting your plumber on advice about your car.

We only like science if it blows things up.

Now, if the science involved blowing up honeybees...you can bet the good ol' U.S. of A would be leading the way in research. :)

btw...you all are eating that stuff people. Let's all think about the that the next time we take a big ol' bite into an apple.

Try this. Go look around your back yard. Do a quick count for everything on that list. You may notice that the bees outnumber everything else. While other creatures do pollinate plants, bees pollinate more than than the other creatures.
