I make it a point to listen to Marvel-related interviews when I can and love to hear Stan Lee's point of view, so when the AM talk show Coast to Coast decided to interview "The Man" I couldn't pass it up. The interview brought up a Daredevil 2 amongst other things, but ilicited an interesting comment from Lee: he said he really enjoyed Hulk. Even the 'artsy' feel to it. He even mentioned it got the core element down. One of the only problems he had with it was the 'father' element: he felt it was overemphasized and could have been less involved.

So, I decided it might make a nice debate: is there any moment from the film where David Banner was just overemphasized, or a part you would have personally cut from the film? This is an open forum for gushers and haters of the film alike, so if you think that he should have been written out of the script entirely or have some ideas on a replacement it would be great to hear that as well.

I didnt think DB was that bad a villain, sure he wasnt the best villain ever, and SOME of his scene's could have been cut, but i like the way the movie flows. In fact i wish the end fight between them was longer, i did enjoy what we got but i wanted a bit more brawling before The Hulk showed David that he could not contain his power.

i thought they dealt with it somewhat well enough.. though they seemed to gloss over how he had his own homemade gamma lab at his house.. the climax to the film I was disappointed by.. I just wanted a straight brawl with the Hulk winning-- the aspect of "transferring" his power, then David overloads, didn't really translate well, in my opinion..

Bruce Banner's father should have been an abusive childhood memory, not a super powered villian.

^Agreed.

I would have cut the last half hour from the film anyway....if they wouldn't let me do that I would have at least deleted the mini tantrum he threw while chained to the chair.....it was good for a giggle but stupid for the film

Daddy Banner should never have been in this movie period. Why they couldn't adhere to the origins of the source material is beyond me.

The fight should have been longer for all the build up they had. Some scenes could have been cut but I think they were going to show how David is alot like Bruce.

The scene at the end felt forced when David was yelling at Bruce. They should have ended it different.

Daddy Banner worked for the film, but I do agree. That last half should have been deleted and he should have just dealt with Ross and co.

His whole role in the film is my major issue with the movie. I don't think it was necessary to have him gain any kind of abilities at all, but if they were going to go that route, why make him some kind of absorbing man knock-off? I thought, as crazy as it would have been, that making him similar to the Leader would have worked better if they HAD to give him some form of power. Making him even more intelligent than he was to the point where he could have created a vast army of gamma mutated beings to combat the Hulk would have been much cooler than that acid-trip ending they gave us. Personally, just having him be that deranged father who's chasing him around the world to examine and exploit him would have been enough....

That stupid crap he did before he bit into the wire should have been cut. Actually, him biting the wire should have been cut too.

In hindsight, the ending nearly ruined the film. The final fight, if you want to call it that, seems unfinished. Watching the end now, I just don't care about it. It feels like they ran out of money and pieced it together with stuff that should have been cut out.

What should have been the best part did seem like a hack job.

I thought david banner's relationship was somewhat necessary to parallel's ross' relationship with betty

Ross loved betty and wanted to protect her from Banner who saw a sense of david within him. THe ol apple doesn't fall far from the tree and no matter what he said, his main concerns were that his daughter didn't end up being killed by bruce just like bruce's mother was.

THat' love

David on the other hand saw his boy as an abomination (probably should have been highlighted in past clips with him not spending time with him and being ashamed with him) than began to become envious and wanted to explore the depths of his child and what potentially he had become. When he had realised he was envious and experimented on himself to try and reach the same level but was unable to and thus required his son to achieve his full potential. At the end his parent like behaviour was just an attempt to get what he wanted.

That's envy.

seeing how ross and banner both treat bruce and betty as well as each other is highly interesting and i think most people would have seen the parallels between them if some dialogue betwen david and ross had occured before his final visit to see bruce.

As for the final fight, it's a breath of fresh air. Although not perfectly executed, the fight was concise and to the point and not drawn out. Every blow is required and it's not OTT like plenty of other fights. The hulk is on the back foot for the whole duration and Ultimately, a joint decision between bruce and the hulk decide or perceive that they would happily give up the burden of the power and it's not a gift but rather a curse.

That's a level of tatical intelligence that is rarely shown on tv and certainly not in any superhero film of the modern era.

perhaps there should have been more dialogue from david so we could understand teh sphere shape he was taking was the easiest form to hold all the power in and he couldn't keep any humanoid shape due to the ever increasing power load but as a engineer, i could see what was going on.

David banner is certainly better than most villains, who normally have an achilles' heel when it comes to their relatives. A brave choice i felt came across well.

Even though I loved the movie from my first viewing, back then I had similar views; it seemed as if David Banner had been pushed into the movie too much.

That opinion changed with time and re-watching, however. David Banner's role is crucial and probably the most important thing that drives the plot forward...it really is his relationship with Bruce that makes the movie come full circle and be so powerful. It's a twist on the comics story, sure, but it's one that really does work excellently in the end.

ang lee pretty much ruined the hulk movie. was anything more annoying than the comic book panels throughout the movie?

by the way, david banner is from the TV series. bruce banner is from the marvel comics. most probably already know why they changed his name from bruce to david for the TV series.

The daddy issues should have been there, but they missed the opportunity for the daddy issues to be passed through Bruce to Betty. When she told him about the dream, he should have broke down, saying he could not do that to her, as his father had done it to him/his mother. He kinda did that, but it should have played deeper than it did. That way, when Bruce and David do meet, the Hulk could have been even more motivated to kick his ass, as David Banner made him loose Betty.
It would have helped put forward the idea that the Hulk had always existed inside Bruce, but the mutation just let him out. I would have liked to have seen the Hulk have flashbacks in the middle of one or more of the fights of David and the abuse/death of Bruce's mother.

Didn't really have any issues with Daddy Banner. If anything I think they smoothed out the issue of the character a bit. I could have done without him being the main villain of the film, but other than that he did his role as he should.
