Hey guys

I've been thinking. For a time now.
We know that greek mythology is quite popular, and have been so for some years. But it haven't been done justice in live action yet. Clash of the Titans weren't exactly a masterpiece. The best things in that film were Liam Neeson and Ralph Fiennes. But it felt just like a bunch of heavy action sequences linked together with no real story. Just some excuse to show off fighting scenes
And the original film wasn't fun to watch. Even by its own time, it must have been dull. I think Laurence Olivier pales in comparison to Neeson.
Then we have Immortals. While it has some originality, it hasn't too much to offer beside the visuals.
What about Percy Jackson? I say it can't stand up to the other modern films because itakes place in our days and it's less about violence and more about being a movie for teens. It's an entertaining "Harry Potter light".

What if we could get a real take on the ancient stories? What if some filmmakers decide to put their souls into a bigger project that takes years to complete? Like Peter Jackson did with Lord of the Rings.
It's not only about delievering a story that could appeal to the audience, but also about to handle the characters with respect. But it will be very expensive and I doubt anyone will try this. Not anytime soon, anyway.
But we are allowed to dream and wish all we want, aren't we?
I imagine the final result to have a sense of wonder, just like LOTR. It should start out like a dark and magical fairy tale that gets even darker towards the end, as the world is at stake and the evil has almost taken over completely. Yes, we know the end, but that doesn't take away the appeal such a mastodont project has. After all, we did now that Sauron would be destroyed too.

The story to be told? It's the war between the two godly races, the Titans and the Olympians.
No, not about a rise of the Titans. I mean the original reign of the Titans, when they were the ones that ruled the earth. Before mankind came to be.
I am tired of the stories about how demigod heroes and other human warriors fight mythological creatures, while the gods at Mount Olympus do nothing more than playing second fiddle. Give us actual GODLY stuff.

The film should start with a LOTR-esque flashback, clips and a voice over, letting us know how our world was made. Uranus and Gaia, two cosmic forces, created the planet Tellus.
Then Kronos and the other Titans came to be, and they ruled with tyranny for centuries. But every reign come to an end. The young godly being Zeus was the one who questioned the old ways. And he stood up to his father.
It soon leads up to the great war, the actual "Clash of the Titans" (even though only the evil side is the actual Titans). But before that, we need to learn about the characters and their differences. It's not shown only in how they fight for control of the world, but also in how they interact with each other. And that is what the newer films fail to show fully. They haven't got more than some glimpses of it, their stories are mostly about how mortals save the day. The newer films turn mankind into the "working class" who must to all the dirty work, take part in the fighting that leads to a lots of deaths. Just because the gods themselves can't intervine.

Zeus is always the main god in all these films. What if he would be degraded to a supporting character here? That doesn't mean we won't see him, only that other gods can step forward and shine on their own.
Hades is also getting a lot of character time in myth films, second main god to Zeus (more or less). He could also have a slightly different role in a film like this.
The third one of the "Big 3" in mythology is Poseidon, but he doesn't get much screen time in the live actions at all. He deserves better.
What if HE could be the main character here? Seriously, I suggest Poseidon to be that in the whole saga. Three films if the story could be dragged out to be a trilogy like LOTR.
Having Poseidon to lead the good army to war could be fantasical. Just imagine how it would turn out on the screen, with all his powers. And it isn't just any army, it consists of both the Olympic gods and the minor gods.
We have Hera, Athena, Apollo, Aphrodite, Ares, Artemis, Hephaestus, Hermes, Dionysus, Eros, Pan etc. And not only gods are involved in the war, but nymphs, satyrs, centaurs, cyclops, minotaurs and other creatures are fighting on either side.
We have got to see it in more war-like films already. But as I said, the stories aren't putting humans aside as they should have.

I imagine the first film to start with the rebellion against the Titans. Here it could work well with the Prometheus myth as a part of the film, how he was punished for what he did.
The second film and the war is approaching. The mighty Atlas should have gathered troops to save the old ways, and I think he should be taken down and then one big bad guy will be out of the game. The trilogy may follow the rules of LOTR, as Saruman stopped being a threat in The Two Towers film. I think Hades will help out and affect the outcome, because he's needed when the powerful Titan general is involved.
The main baddie is Kronos and he should be the focus of the last chapter of the trilogy. Now Zeus should step in and take part in the full fledged war.

How about it? I have trust in this. Poseidon to have much screen time won't be a failure. I was impressed by his one godly act in Immortals, and if they could focus much more on him it could be as hell as cool.

How should the gods be portrayed then? I think Neeson/Fiennes gave us a very good example. And we can look a little at how Ian Mckellen played Gandalf too, because that's also a kind of magical being.
What we need is charismatic actors who can go deep into the personalities of these devine "ancient superheroes", and deliever performances therafter.

I'd give my left nut for a legitimately good greek mythology film.

The Wrath of Titans has more gods and it was great to see them. Ares was cool, but he looked to pretty to be a war god imo.
Zeus and Hades weren't as powerful as in the first film, and Zeus suffered the most of this character change. Not only had he lost his "shiny" appearance, but he also seemed older and more tired. And Poseidon was mostly a whimp, he couldn't do anything here.

But I've got another idea here. May work instead of the big production a trilogy would be.
What if we upgrade the gods to their roman versions, and do it as one single film. I don't think it's ever been done before. Correct me if I'm wrong.
The plot shouldn't involve Greece/Hellas as the other films in this genre do, but rather the Roman Empire and all of its conquests. Some of the Caesars were tyrannic, and quite obsessed with being a god themselves.
Could this work? I mean, we won't get Zeus or Hades here, or any of the other names. The name of the divine beings should be as follows: Jupiter, Pluto, Neptunus, Juno, Vulcanus, Mars, Venus, Bacchus, Merkurius, Cupido, Minerva, Diana etc. And their appearances and personalities should be more Roman than Greek.
By doing this, we won't get any Titans. Not even Saturnus (=Kronos).

Just imagine something like Ben Hur or Gladiator, but with the gods being real and not just some belief.
