A lack of Doom

Surprisingly, not a bad cartoon. Even though the character designs were largely awful.

I thought it was crap.

Only good thing it had going for it was a couple of awesome cameos. Doom was as bad as Movie Doom.

I've only seen a few episodes, but they were good. The one with Ronan especially.

Well I think some times certain comics focus too much on certain villains and often ignored the rest of the hero's rogues gallery. FF tended to do this Doom, X-Men tended to do this Magneto, Daredevil tended to do this with Kingpin and Bullseye. Sometimes its interesting to give the big villains a rest and focus on other villains. But you have to do something with these other villains besides just rehashing the same old stories from the Silver Age.

I mean can't do something interesting with some non Doom FF villains, instead of rehashing the same old stories from the Silver Age? I like the fact Wizard had a mental breakdown, but I don't think they explained why he had a mental breakdown and every writer besides Hickman seems to ignore it.

I like the fact Waid is not using Kingpin in Daredevil.

Why wouldn't he do those things? Doom's never lacked motivation to do terrible things in pursuit of his goals.
Valeria was the only woman other than his mom to ever show him kindness. He clearly loved her. To sacrifice her to gain victory over Reed is stupid. The pact he made with those demons was stupid to. His mom made a pact with Mephisto that ended up costing her her life. Why would he be that stupid to make a Faustian pact ? Magic wise , he's the second greatest magic user behind Dr Strange. Sending Franklin to Hell is out of character for him. Doom has a strong sense of honor. Harming a child , even Reed's child , is the act of a coward without honor.

Or the act of a vain, sociopath willing to do what ever it takes to accomplish his goals.....which essentially is Doom.

Plus, Doom was very much not the second-greatest magic user. Before "Unthinkable" he was barely above a novice. Even after "Unthinkable," he made a big leap in magical ability, but that just puts him in league with magic heavyweights like Strange, Loki, Satana, et al. He hasn't blown past them or anything.

I think it goes back further than Unthinkable. I remember a Doom/Dr Strange graphic novel back in the day (80's?) when they went to hell to save Doom's mother's soul. I figured he was always on Strange's level, hence the team up.

I remember him relying much more on technology before "Unthinkable." I knew he had some level of magic ability, but it never seemed to be all that great in the comics I read. Granted, I haven't read a ton of comics with Doom from before the '90s or so.

Dr Doom isn't barely above a novice in the mystic arts. In Dr Strange/Dr Doom : Triumph and Torment ,the Aged Genghis , a mystic as old as the Ancient One , sent out a call to the true masters of the mystic arts for a contest. Dr Doom was one of a dozen to hear it. He ends up coming in second place. At that point all he knew was Gypsy and Tibetan magics. Now a days he knows way more than that.

Except no other important mages actually showed up to this event. The Ancient One didn't invite Baron Mordo or Kaluu or Kulan Gath to this contest, because he wasn't those guys. Some of the most powerful mages around were left out, so Doom wasn't facing off against the best and frankly he used tech and cheated in that contest. Its not an impressive magic feat for Doom to win that contest, unless Doom defeated Baron Mordo in a purely magical duel, he is not the second best mage.

Technically, Dr. Strange should be the second-best mage. He's gotten his ass handed to him by Loki before.[/Thor fan]

Fair enough. Dormammu's probably got more raw magic power than Loki anyway, if we want to get really technical. Karnilla's a more seasoned god-mage than Loki too. And of course there's always Odin.

I was watching The Vikings the other day with Kirk Douglas and that's still my all time favorite death cry. "OOOOODDDDIIIIIINNNNNN!!!!!!" *Fall....probably pooped himself.*

I think Dr. Strange's title refers to the fact that is the best human mage around, naturally magical beings don't need as much skill to wield magical powers compared to human beings.

It wasn't the Ancient One , it was the Aged Genghis.I'm not sure why the other magic types weren't invited. Maybe they didn't hear the summons. Sure he used tech , but it was his own skill that carried the day. Baron Mordo is dead so Doom would have to travel back in time to face him. Like I said before , he upped his mystical knowledge greatly since that time. For instance he learned magic from Morgan Le Fey. In Dark Avengers he defeated Morgan Le Fey with magic after she sought revenge against him.
