A neo-noir Martian Manhunter flick

Miller isnt a heavyweight in film at all

and Cronenberg is out there but has settled lately.

Alex Proyas or Atom Egoyan I think is the way to go

I don't think you'd need to trade in his non shapeshifting or telepathy powers for the neo-noir angle. He can be incredibly powerful and still "save the world from the shadows" as SF put it.

EDIT: KAAAAAAAAHN*!!!!

*(by kahn I mean double post)

the neo-noir angle doesnt get rid of his other powers, telepathy and shapshifting would just be more useful as a detective.

Very true. I would like to see him handled as an incredibly powerful individual who keeps it all pretty quiet until he needs to. He's the guy who, 99% of the time, deals with problems with his intelligence and use of subtlety, but if he was forced to, could do battle with an entire army on his own.

Martian Manhunter movie should line up behind Aquaman and Hawkman movie.

I'm all for an MM movie.... but if I see it I want to see him in his alien form... if they would make an MM movie and we only see him in his guise as a human being, it would severely piss me off. That would be the same thing as them making a Batman movie and we only see him as Bruce Wayne.

Would they really make this? Is this just a dream?

It's a dream for now.

If WB manages to do great solo films for Flash, Green Lantern and Green Arrow it'll make it much easier for it to happen.

I think its an excellent idea if they are looking for more out of the box directions. The whole hero in tights have been done just about to death. I think new (but appropriate) avenues will be appreciated from fanboys and film goers.

This could work in a live action direct to dvd/made for tv movie.

With a proper budget, the right cast and the right director it could be great. It would also be less of a risk for WB financially then putting it in theaters.

STV market sucks. I see too many good films going to it while the theaters get ****. Realistically it would be a great STV but theoretically it would make an excellent theater flick too.

But the fact is... sadly, but surely... Martian Manhunter would probably not do too well in theaters, but really good on dvd. Like I said in another thread I created, dtv films (if done right) can be really good. And then the best thing about it would be that the films would be made almost specifically for DC fans. I mean, if Warner Premiere (WB's dtv label) starts producing various DC films, they know who the main ppl are that will buy/rent them... THE FANS! Martian Manhunter, The Question, Black Canary, Huntress, and various other DC characters that aren't as big as Bats, Supes, WW, GL, and Flash but still popular/important characters could be done very well for dtv if done with the proper budget and people.

Bat:

With a good big budget film it could do well. Especially in a movie like this.

I do agree he needs more exposure before it. Direct to dvd and made for tv movies could get him more exposure and appearances in cartoons.

I think it would do just as good in theaters. If Hellboy can go to theaters and get a sequel theres no reason this one cant.

Besides having the backing of the DC label, this concept in general is not your average tights and flights superhero plot. It has major potential for a cult following and high cinematic praise. Just for being out of the box and trying to be different cine-philes and reviewers will look at it with respect.

DTV market is an extreme cop out for superhero flicks. The idea of alien superpowers and noir tone and setting leads me to think of an incredible visuals if nothing else, visuals that are intensified through the theater going experience DTV is one of 3 things. Absolute crap slapped together for a quick profit, a short animated movie or Disney sequel, or a fantastic movie that no one had the guts to distribute. I dont wish that upon any movie (exception for the animated stuff).

What about including The Question as a supporting character to a neo noir MM flick. Q could be a lot like his version on JLU where he finds that one of his conspiracy theories is beyond reasonable doubt. The same case that MM could be working on.
