The Official Martian Manhunter Casting and Discussion Thread

Martian Manhunter is one of the lesser known members of the DC film universe. I think that it would be rare to see a sole MM film, but they cant ever make a JL film without him.
If they ever put him in a film, who do you think should play John Jonzz?

My vote is for Jon Hamm

He has the look (he looks straight out of a noir film) and acting abilities for both MM and his human self

Out of the poll, Owen and Craig seem like good choices, but I'm not too keen on the others.

Lance Reddick is my pick.

I really don't see any of those guys playing the role. Really I'd like Carl Lumbly to play the voice and John Jones. This is one of the few times when the character's identity is by nature fluid enough to not have to conform to previous incarnations, Lumbly can already play J'onn he shouldn't be excluded from the other role just because most portrayals of John Jones are white.

Agreed with the latter, disagree with the former. None of the actors one the poll would make a good fit.

So hard to choice since john can shapeshift it would be interesting if they had a couple different actors set to play human jones.

I see that ppl don't like the poll. But let me explain my reason for my choices. I dont know where i saw it either JL:The New Frontier or The Batman (or I could have just imagined it) but there is a scene where MM first arrives on earth and he is flashing through tv channels, when he stops on a an old movie and he models himself on the character in the old movie. I was thinking, you know since he can't run around looking exaclty like an actor out of the 1940s that he slightly alter the appearance
So I chose actors that seem like there could look like they are the star of a 1940s noir, but if I wasn't thinking that idea I would def. support Lance Reddick or Robert Wisdom

I like Hamm, and would actually put him as my 2nd choice, i just really think Chiwetel would kick ass in the role.

They can definitely have other actors and extras playing Det John Jones and all of MM's other human disguises...

But Lance Reddick is an inspired choice to be the real Martian Manhunter and is 6'4 too.

Similar to Mystique.

Plus you need an actor that has the J'onn Jonz voice and accent; its very unique. Whoever voiced him in JLU did a great job.

I think that his actual MM form should be the prominent form, but John Jones should have at least 25% of the MM screen time. 75% martian, 25% human guise

In a JLA film? There are 6 other characters to service, and villains.

If anything Det John Jones should be something small; something that's a nod to the fans but nothing beyond one or two scenes if anything.

I'd rather have more scenes of him in alien form and hero form.

I think if MM was going to be live action it would first be in a JL film then based on ppls response on that then we would probaly get a spin off. Because MM isnt as popular as all the other members. Just like in The New Frontier imo, the John Jones ego should be involed in the story as well.
Casting 2 actors to play the different guise of a character is like casting Superman and Clark Kent separately

Martian Manhunter is.

He can appear under several different human guises but with one guy playing the real Martian Manhunter.

Det John Jones hasnt really been an important aspect of the modern Martian Manhunter though.

It's great for the classic version, based on New Frontier for example.

But I'd prefer a more modern take; closer to JLU Martian Manhunter.

Too bad MM isn't a Marvel Character, he would have already had his own film by now.

I think we're more likely to see him in a JL movie, which is sad. A MM film featuring Jonn trying to fit into a strange alien world, along with some power showcasing fight scenes with some scary white martians has alot of potential .

MM has been so neglected in the comics, or least the last few crisis sagas. JLU really showed me his potential. Most of my friends who aren't into comics and watched JL or JLu with me would ask "who's that guy?" and for many he became the character they liked most or were most interested in on the show.
