Who'd Be a Great MARTIAN MANHUNTER???

Offhand, here a few more names to consider...

Sean Bean
Karl Urban
Marton Csokas

My thought exactly.Of course "they" don't take people from the cartoon into a film, but they should! when the actor looks the part.In this case he does!!
Carl Lumbly is tall, thin, can act the part ( ! ) , it's enough for me.The actor will have make up so one doesn't care if he's black or white or ...

I'll post what I had said about someone playing the Martian in my other thread.

Nathan Fillion

Or

Dominic Purcell

Either of the two IMO, would do the role justice.

Fillion should be Hal Jordan not MM.

How about giving Denis Rodman a chance
Since they didn’t chose him to play the green goblin and his former wife Carmen Electra as Mary Jane

The man needs some cash before he ends up in the poor house!

Dominic Purcell all the way! He is so deep on Prison Break, even I catch myself a little choked up.

If Hal Jordan was ever considered to be the one putting on the ring in a live action GL film, yes.

I'm not at all adverse to the idea of John Jones (J'onn J'onzz ..sp?) being black. I honestly think that Chris Judge would be a great choice. I've seen him (as we all have) on SG1 and could really appreciate his otherworldly take on MM.

BTW, MM has always been my favourite member of the JLA. I've been waiting for someone to put together a good, ongoing book featuring him. There were a few false starts. I guess none of the writers at DC have a strong enough handle on him.

I'm beginning to get into Prison Break and I can see now why some people think Dominic Purcell would be a terrific J'onn, he's got the size and the look, but there's that sensetivity in his mannerisms and voice that just sell it. He could work...

Purcell has always been my choice, next to Fillion though he's better suited for Hal Jordan or perhaps The Question. I chose him even before his role in Prison Break, he just had the right presence and look that could channel both the duality of J'onn J'onnz along with John Jones. Though there are other actors who could do the same, of course....

What about Djimon Hounsou?

 Perfect choice. He's a good actor and he has the stature I would imagine of J'onn.

This isn't necessarily who I'd want to portray the part, but I suppose I should set a more serious than jokey tone for the thread.

Chiwetel Ejiofor (Serenity, Love Actually, Amistad, upcoming The Inside Man)

He's a solid actor who has done some very respectable work in his career. He's the kind of actor who would serve the story as well as instill J'onn with a real personality and not make him some monotone anyhero.

Again, don't take this as anything but a thought. He doesn't have to be of any particular ethnicity. Just has to be a good actor.

Ooohhhh. Great choice.

True that, my compatriot. True that.

Obvious, but still a great choice.

He did a fine job on JL/JLU, but if they were to make a full out Martian Manhunter movie, I'm not sure that they'd cast their voice from the cartoon. Kevin Conroy didn't do Batman and Tim Daly isn't doing Superman. He's a fine actor, but having been associated with the character in its animated form kind of cancels him out.

Why should it cancell him out? Conroy would have made a good Batman back in the late 80s/early 90s. Only reason he wouldn't be chosen now is because he's a bit too old to play Batman as he's presented in the new franchise. And really, Tim Daly wouldn't be a bad Superman. But, he didn;t audition for the part. Lumbly is a very good screen actor, and would be perfect for the role.

Martin sheen could play his secret Identity(haha), in the toons he is always an old man with a wife, then he has to show his true self. just wanted to put that out there!!!

I like the idea of Djimon Hounsou. he looks great for the part! but can he act, the part is my concern.

How can you know the man and not know he has acting skills?

He was in Gladiator with Russell Crowe, also more recently The Island with the Scottish guy (can't remember the name right now), and he was Dr Midnite in Constantine.
