Smallville is ending, and while this movie actually is shaping up to perhaps be the definitive Superman movie, I've been wondering if a new TV series wouldn't better serve the character.

SFX have reached a point in television where they no longer impede portraying Superman's powers, as evidenced by Smallville.

The Adventures of Superman, the Superboy series, and to some extent Lois and Clark have proven that Superman on television works well, given the various supporting characters and plot lines from the comics.

Maybe in a few years, depending on the success of the new movie, a new live-action series would be the way to go. It would have to be far more faithful to the source material than Smallville, but if it employed the best aspects of Smallville in production, writing, action, and SFX, it would be a hit.

What do you guys think?

yup, call it Metropolis.

no they should do a new film rather than TV series

as cool as another live action superman show would be. Wb more then likely wants to get a good film series going. If there is to be any new show in the next few yrs that is likely maybe a new solo animated series.

Superman can't be done well on a TV budget unless it's with a good BIG network; NBC, HBO miniseries etc, otherwise it would just look campy and lame.

Superman's best and only chance to be relevant and popular again for the first time since the old Reeve days, IS a new Superman movie.

Nolan's attachment makes it likely this will happen.

yea a show in live action is all about how much the budget is per episode/series, the network it is airing on and other factors.

And you'd never get incredible action sequences and super powered fights without it being in a full-on motion picture ..

Superman desperately needs all this right now. He needs to be an action hero in live action for the first time ever.

New film. Animated series. That's all.

Can't we have a movie, a TV show, and an animated series? :woot:

it would be nice to have all 3 at once. But then it wouldnt make much sense lol. But a new film/film series and a new solo animated series are likely what we are going to get. We probably wont have another live action superman show for probably like another decade.

Probably for even longer, if the films are a hit. I don't see Superman going back to live action TV.

Similarly, I definitely don't see Batman going back to live action TV, unless the film franchaise gets screwed over again Schumaccer style.

I think we're past that.

Unfortunately. I think Batman would make a great live action series.

If batman made a tv series then it would be cool if the 5 first seasons were Bruce travelling the world and learning to fight crime and the 6th season became year one

They can do bigger and better things with Batman as a film franchaise, same for Superman.

I have a feeling DC live TV, from here on out, will be focused on characters that aren't getting film treatment; "Human Target" "Blue Beetle" etc

Though it's no coincidence that "Smallville" and "Birds of Prey" debuted when the Superman and Batman film franchaises were in limbo.

oh come on batman could be done easily on tv. its all about story, budget, and all that. He is a fairly easy character who could be done. Its all about what they want to do. But yea if the new film is a success the studio more then likely wants to keep churning out more films. and the only tv stuff will be animated dtv's and cartoon series.

I disagree.

It would obviously be inferior to the Nolan films in every way. So why bother?

The films will definitely continue. If Nolan can make a film as abstract as "Inception" into a success, Batman III will be incredibly successful.

You could make great stories about Bruce waynes training and traveling before he became batman

There's no point in just doing a show about Bruce pre-Batman, when we have an actual Batman kicking ass and taking names on the big screen.

Yes it makes sence but i would be talking about some time after they make some more films, and we had smallville season 4 at the same time we had superman returns.

Your point is moot.

Smallville started airing before there was a film gameplan for Superman. Had there have been a Superman film in production in 2001, there would be no Smallville.

The Batman film franchaise isn't going anywhere.

whos to say it would be inferior to nolan's batman. its all about the acting, the cast, and whos writing and producing it. there could probably be a great batman live action show some day.
