So anyway, I was finally going to get an iPod since I wanted something that could play video... I know that the new iPod (either the video or iPhone will be announced this week). It wont be released until November though and that sucks because I need it before then.

So looks like I will be buying an iPod only to have it become outdated within 2 months.

Who's hurt? And I personally don't care about it being "trendy". It's the fact that people have started calling all MP3 players "iPods" that makes me think Apple's little golden child has gotten a swollen ego. I have a Creative Zen Micro and everybody that I meet that looks at it goes, "Oh is that the new iPod?".

On my $200 in-ear headphones, it's perfect.

Poor battery life

I easily get 15-17 hours of battery on my ipod video. More than enough for daily use.

Breaks easily

I dropped my ipod video in the subway once, sounded pretty bad. Picked it up, saw no scratches, and listened on.

Yeah, pretty much every single aspect was a direct miss.

I've not had any of the problems you've just described with any of the iPods I've owned. They've all been far superior to the Creative players I've had. I guess YMMV.
