A new iPod...

What do you think of that design?

  • Awesome design! The digital scroll wheel is a great move!

  • Horrible design! I don't want to have to touch the screen!

  • No opinion...

The only thing I dont like about the Ipod is that it doesn't have an auto-limiter. Well, my mini doesnt I dont know about others. I just hate how for one song it plays normal then for another it decides to bring it way up. But other than that, APPLE FTW!

Widescreen iPods?

My money is on the new Video iPod... Just makes sence to get them into stores for christmas. A 'real' iPod phone is coming too but I still say thats another year or so off.

Actually, your iPod should do this with Sound Check (here's another article to read as well, and another.). Just make sure you're running the latest firmware on it.

That's my bet, too. The new video iPod's have been in the pipeline for awhile, now. I suspect they are announcing a new movie download feature for the iTunes Music Store along with the new iPods. They had an event scheduled back in July that they cancelled at the last moment, and some people speculate that they postponed it in order to iron out some of the kinks with some of the movie studios over price. Disney is a lock since they're tight with Apple and Steve Jobs is on their board and the single largest shareholder. I wonder how many other studios they've gotten on board. Particularly since Amazon just announced a movie download service of their own in which they have every studio on board EXCEPT for Disney. Tuesday should be an interesting day.

I hope they don't encode the movies in a way that prevents 5G Ipods from playing them. I just got a refurbished one from Apple, and don't want to be left in teh dust already.

The only thing that pisses me off with iPod is how fast the battery power goes, especially when you play videos :down

^ Yeah. That bites. I've downloaded a couple of full length movies (Dumb and Dumber, Wedding Crashers) that I hope to watch in their entirety on a flight someday, but don't think I'll be able to. That's one thing the must resolve if any new video iPod is to sell well.

Wait, the video Ipod can carry a full movie! dam. Im guess this isnt without any de-compressing right? No crappy Mpeg-4 quality?

I think im the only person left on this planet without an ipod or some from of mp3.

I got to agree with you in my case.My Ipod Nano box "claims" that it has up to 14 hours of battery life but I END UP USING HALF OF THE BATTERY JUST 2 AND 1/2 HOURS AT THE GYM!:(:down

As for the new Ipod, it sounds pretty good and I want it but I got my Ipod nano on Christmas:(

I was able to fit all the episodes of Firefly on mine, a few hiccups here and there, but over all good quality.

How do you download films, I only have 2 vids on my ipod(X3 and Spidey 3 trailer), and I suddenly forgot how to put in more.... :(

you know what..i still dont know how to download videos and podcasts to my ipod I've had it for 6months:(

I'll sell my ipod on ebay a month before the new ones come out when the general public isn't aware yet so I'll have the money to buy a new one. Hehe!

Do you have the 30gb iPod? The battery on those suck big time. The 60gb is better.

I dont know I got it as a gift from me unlce...It plays like 9000 + songs.
Do you know how to download vids??...I dont know what happend but I keep on trying and it doesnt work...I only got it to work twice for X3 and SM3 and thats it.

They do need a new IPod though, because if it makes the regular ones cheaper I'm all for it.

But 300 dollars to get something that I can do by basically buying a 65 dollar MP3 CD Player is ridiculous.

Yeah, Apple FTW? No, Apple is FYW, ****ing your wallet.

I've never had an iPod so I can't say anything about the sound quality or fragility, but yeah, my co-worker has a Nano and he was complaining about the battery life too.

I hate iPods because of what Apple is withholding from the consumers, as well as their money-sucking ways. They have the technology to put in a radio receiver, a recorder, and a FRIGGIN' REPLACEABLE BATTERY, but because they're evil they don't put it on the iPods. Even my 500MB Acer player had all of that, and it was cheaper than the iPod Shuffle. Sure, it's ugly in comparison, but despite being an aesthetic person I prefer functionality to prettiness.

I received my new Sandisk Sansa the other day and I'm IN LOVE with it. It looks similar to an iPod (it's got a moving scroll wheel), but it seems hardier to me. The back panel is made of metal, so it's heavier than it looks, but I like it.

It's only 6GB, but it's a hell of an upgrade from my 500MB player, LOL. My techie friend was proud of me, since the Sansa is exactly what he would recommend for people who are boycotting iPods. :oldrazz: It plays vids, stores photos, has a radio receiver, a voice recorder, and....the user can replace the rechargeable battery. My cousin joked that the battery kit would cost $60 (how much it costs to send in an iPod to replace the battery) but I just checked and nope, it's about $12. I have yet to test how long a charge on mine actually lasts, but I've read reviews that say it does last the reported 19 hours, and 4 hours of video. My only qualms so far are that it's a bit of a hassle to upload music and video (I have to convert videos using their software), it has a bit of feedback the first few seconds after loading a song, and that it charges only by a USB connection. I just bought a AC-USB adaptor for $6.50 though, so the last point is no longer valid. :)

The folks over at Apple are money-suckers. If you told anyone unfamiliar with iPods that it would cost $60 to replace a battery, or that it would cost $34 just to tell you what was wrong if your iPod no longer worked (which is what happened to my roommate), they would laugh at you. Not to mention that they come out with a new model every 8 or so months, to keep people buying. It's completely and utterly ridiculous.

People only keep buying iPods because everything else is made for them. I mean, iPod-compatible cars? iPod-compatible speaker docks? iPod-compatible speaker PILLOWS? Crazy...

My coworker is still planning buy the new iPod even though he hates his Nano, only because loading from iTunes is so convenient. Admittedly, my Sansa is a bit of a hassle to sync up. I have to make playlists in WMP10 so that album tracks will be in the right order, but it's a small price to pay fighting a corporate giant. :batman:

My 60-gig Video iPod is great.

But, now, I want that friggin' touch/widescreen iPod!

Never had any battery problems with any of the iPods I've owned. If you fully charge them and then deplete them completely and repeat that cycle a couple of times when you first get them, it will condition the battery to hold a charge longer. You can also do this intermittently throughout it's life and it will help avoid issues. I've always been able to get 12+ hours out of a charge on my iPods.

i will be recieving a free 512mb mp3 player along with one of my school textbooks (when they arrive). Hopefully i get the book soon considering half the books come with said mp3 player and half come with a 256mb usb flash drive (which i have no use for). This is all i need.

Well, the video quality isn't great, but pretty decent. I got them off of Limewire. You have to be careful with the files you download, though, as only some will convert correctly. I found that out the hard way, as some of the first files I converted didn't have sound afterward.
