Do you give money to people who'll come up to you and ask for a few bucks?
Today, I was at a Lowe's. My friend and I bought some Philly Cheesesteaks at a stand in front of Lowe's. We walk back to the car, and there is a guy who is fixing his 2 front tires. I saw this guy, when I first got to Lowe's, wondering what was wrong.
His girlfriend comes up to me and asks me for a couple of bucks. I (having 10 bucks in my pocket) say no, because I blew my load on the food in my hand. She says she was very low on money and was barely living out of her truck. (I guess she meant it wasn't the best of $ times for her) I kindly say no, say I'm sorry, and wish her and her boyfriend good luck. While I am eating in the car, I see her asking random people in the parking lot for money. I really start to feel terrible when I see her doing this, because I start to believe she really does need the money.
Later, I see that the boyfriend fixes the tires and drives off. I felt really bad. I got jipped once for being too kind, so that was in my mind. Half of me thought she was lying, because if I gave her "a couple of bucks", what would it have done? The compassionate side of me felt terrible. I start thinking that charity is always a great thing and what if I were in that position?
But the question is:
