With FF2 coming out in a couple of weeks, does it bother any of you that Marvel is portraying the comic version of Reed the way that they have been through CW and WWH? When it comes to Spidey, they have always appeared to make an attempt to make the comics an advertisment for the movies. When SM1 came out, GG made his return, and right now he is "Back in Black." I cant help but notice that they seem to have made no attempt to do the same with the F4, who is Marvel's first family, and who have been around longer than most other Marvel properties. So again, does this bother you?

The way Reed was portrayed in CW did bother me, he was out of character and the writers seemed to forget something that has always been at his core: though a genius with the upmost faith in logic he also has the heart to know when the math, no matter how well it adds up, has to go to hell.
In CW though he was willing to be a complete git for his formula and that just wasn't like him.

As far as the films go I cant say I'm bothered if the books deliberately try and tie in with the movies or not.

as i said about reeds prtrayal in civilwar
we want STRETCHO not WRETCHO

After reading the novel, I'm fine with how Reed is being portrayed....MUCH better than the first movie.......haven't read CW so I wouldn't know about that....but as far as the novelization, I'm good with it.

Doesn't bother at all, the Comics and Movies are different in a way.

You do realize both Fantastic Four and Ultimate Fantastic Four have Silver Surfer stories starting this month right?

I really loathed the way Reed was written in CW. The ironic thing is last week Marvel issued the first of the FF Visionaries for Walt Simonson's run. There was a similar movement during the "Acts of Vengeance" storyline to register metahumans, The Superhero Registration Act. Reed was shown testifying in front of a Congressional hearing against such legislation. I've seen very little reason in the history of the character for him to make turn a 180. He went against the goverment again when he decided to take things in his own hands and tried to shut down Doom and his resources permanently in Authorative Action. Plus, there was a line in one of the CW books where Reed says, to paraphrase, how much he admires Tony Stark.....huh? Since when? Reed has developed things that are way over Stark's head. I see Stark as more of a nuts and bolts engineer type where Reed goes, as they say, where no man has gone before, like the Negative Zone.

With this whole CW mess, I could just see Victor sitting back in Latveria and watching the heroes beat up on each other, laughing his metallic toukas off.

Another irony is that the current FF doesn't even have Reed and Sue as active members, they have taken a leave while Storm and T'Challa act as Ben and Johnny's sitters. I better quit, I need my meds.... :woot:

^^^ Agreed Iron Maiden.

Reed (along with Mr. Stark) were portrayed as total asses in CW. I don't expect this film's take on Mr. Fantastic to mimic that behavior--mostly because the Four will not be facing a political situation that would have the potential to bring the ugly out of Reed (like CW).

I know that next year we'll see in the books a scene where Reed and Tony are together in the shower and realize that Civil War was just a dream.

But doesn't the topic of "politics" bring the ugly out in most people.....

take Hillary for instance......................:woot:

Apparently you're both too young to remember Eleanor Roosevelt....

At the risk of veering off topic, have you read CW: The Confession that came out last month? Tony Stark says he lays the credit/blame/impetus or whatever to start his CW master plan on ... Doctor Doom. He says the "zombie war" Victor took part in gave him the idea, that there was a need to get control all the super powered beings, to paraphrase things. This was in reference to Iron Man #150, the time travel story that took both Iron Man and Doom back in the times of Camelot.

I think I need to reread that issue because I don't remember Doom's name mentioned...hmmm..that is cool..I was hoping Doom was going to be revealed as the mastermind of the Civil War in some form or fashion....

Actually no I hadn't. I chock it up to the House of Ideas' massive hyping of WWH. Thank you for bringing them up though. Even with those stories however, as it was mentioned, Reed and Sue technically arent part of the 616 F4, and that story doesn't change Reed's CW actions, or how he is already being portrayed in the lead up to WWH. While it'll be cool to see the Surfer again, it still seems like Marvel isn't giving the 4, and Reed in particular, the pre-film release characterization he deserves. I dont claim to be a diehard F4 fan, but as a superhero fan period, this whole scenario is driving me a little batty.

He doesn't really blame or credit Doom at all, it was just in that battle alongside King Arthur (great comic btw with a great back-handed compliment to Tony from Doom near the end*) he claimed he saw the future and in it was a war among heroes (it wasn't Tony having a vision as such but rather his natural inventive ability to predict future trends and so on).

Bottom line....Both Reed and Stark's positions in Civil War (and their out off character behaviour) was explained away as being the pair of them both seeing the War as inevitable and everything they did was to try and control events to a conclusion that didn't destroy the world...or something like that.

*The line I'm speaking about is when Iron-Man and Doom agree to make a time machine out of parts taken from both their armors...Doom watches Iron-Man at work and remarks to himself "if Starks underlings are this clever he must be a genius...")

Very Very much. :csad:

You have hit on something that has been bothering me for some time. Reed and tony are not on the same plane intelectually. You can compare Doom with Reed but not Reed and Tony. Tony would not have the wherewithall to create a time machine or a negative zone portal or a warp drive.

I really cannot recognize the current character of Reed Richards. And this admiration of Tony Stark, comeon, Stark is a military genious at designing weapons but Reed Richards is a mystery as to his cognitive abilities.

That is why they call him Big Brain. I think the editors at the house of ideas used to get showed up in school by some bright kids. Their decimation of the character and position of Reed Richards in the Marvel universe has been ongoing for years.

This is a guy who faces down foes like Galactus and world destroying entities but whenever you have these crossovers he suddenly takes a back seat to these second tier heroes and why because he is afraid of Thanos, give me a break.

I think they just don't want reed to beat the bad guy with one of his doohickeys, lazy creators.
