I've never really spoken to anyone on here about this. Some will remember a few years ago, I said I had a book deal. I did. I wrote a book, got a deal. That's as much as anyone heard. Things happened. Basically, it was a con. I signed a contract and then they held onto my book and wanted money for editing, money for reading fees. They wanted all sorts of charges. That's not how it should work, I found out. I told them to keep the book, but I'm not paying them anything. They did. That book is theirs. Always will be, for what I care. So I never did come back and say what happened to you all because, frankly, I was heartbroken.
I've found out since then, after joining several literary groups, that the firm I will not name is well known for this type of con, is, in fact, only known for this type of con and nothing else.
As it happens, it worked out for the best. I'm a better writer ten times over now. And I'm saying this because today I have just finished my debut novel. I'm glad what happened happened. I would not want the book they have to be out there with my name on it.
So, now I have a book (titled Emoticon for now), and I'm at work on my second. Bad things do happen, but time can make things work to your advantage.
It's a slow process the publishing world but I'll be sure to let you guys know what's happening, if you're interested. Like I say, I'm at work on my second now: Working title, House of Glass. Jerry Spinger meets American Psycho. I'm going to have fun with this.
Anyway, I always felt bad about saying stuff that was, until now, never to be mentioned again. I was young and got carried away with the promise of fame and such, and probably should have kept my mouth closed.
'til the next time
