Did Beasts servants get turned into cups and stuff before Disney?

Great episode. Loved seeing King Midas and his daughter Katherine. I'm bummed that I'll be missing next week's episode especially since it will be focusing on my favorite character, the Sheriff. :cmad:

So no one else caught that the drink Mary Maragret and Emma were drinking was McCutcheon Whiskey.

Yes, yes! I was too busy posting about Widmore, I forgot to mention his preferred drink!

I also noticed a set of tea cups in Mr. Gold's pawn shop.... artifacts from Wonderland, perhaps?

As I watched that scene, I was yelling things like, Gheppeto's parents! Aladdin's lamp! And then Mrs. Potts & her kids! But, I think you may be right, property of the Mad Hatter.

Gaston might have been cast. He's rumored to be played by PSYCH's Sage Brocklebank (McNab)

No. In the original tale of Beauty and the Beast there were no singing candles, clocks, chairs, cups etc.

There are evil sisters though that of course weren't in the Disney version.

It doesn't bother me too much right now either, I just don't want it to get to a point where it does which is why I would like more episodes where bad stuff happens and the characters can fix it themselves instead of having to run to Rumpelstiltskin for help. Speaking of Rumps, I wonder if they will ever bring in the princess from his story.

There's a popular theory going around that we've already met her and she's actually...

The Evil Queen herself! Apparently, in some versions of the Snow White tale, she has her own backstory, in which she is a daughter of a miller. And who is the woman in Rumplestiltskin's story? An unnamed miller's daughter.

They don't seem to be going by the original stories completely. The Disney versions seem to also be valid to what they are doing. I mean the dwarfs names or Maleficent. There are a lot of disney references as well.

Is anyone else loving Carlyle's body movements when he's playing Rumple? I think they're great.

Yeah, that's what makes him so great. It's like he's got every little movement that you would expect from a character like that down pat.

I'm having fun watching Carlyle's Rumpelstiltskin move around and his hand gestures. I love it!

Loving the show so far the mythology of the show has been great. Only problem is Jennifer Morrison's character

And now it's confirmed:

The Mayor's full name is: Regina Mills. :cwink:

This will be a great birthday gift. My favorite Disney movie reimaged in my favorite new series.

I wouldn't be surprised if Mills being her surname was some sort of clue. The characters Storybrooke names do seem linked to their fairy tale counterparts.

'Regina' means 'queen'
'Blanchard' (as in Mary Margaret) means 'white'
Jiminy Cricket is called Archie 'Hopper'
Mr Gold is called Rumpelstiltskin (he's able to spin gold)
Red Riding Hood is called 'Ruby'
'David Nolan' means 'beloved champion' which is kind of a stretch for Prince Charming, but the dude did slay a dragon.

I don't know. Maybe I'm stretching, but it does seem awfully coincedental.

But who is Dr. Whale?!

Haha, I did actually think about Dr Whale when I put together that list, but I've not got any idea who he is. When I googled the words 'fairy tale' and 'whale' all I got was a bunch of websites about creationism.

I guess he could be the prince from The Little Mermaid, in the original story he was kind of a *****e.

But who is Dr. Whale?!

A whale can also be a very large person, so maybe a giant? Like from Jack and the Beanstalk? Anyone know any other fairy tale giants or very heavyset characters?

I looked up some synonyms for "whale" and got the same thing.
Since they used King Midas, I'm guessing Greek myths and other religions are now in the picture. It could be Atlas, Goliath, the giant from Jack and the Beanstalk, the giant from the Giant and the Tailor...

Did anyone else see the Genie's Lamp in Mr. Gold's shop? Guess that mean's Aladdin or the Arabian Nights stories are going to show up.

^Yeah it's been mentioned. I believe they have confirmed Alladin at some point but don't qoute me.

We should expect Aladdin & The Little Mermaid at one ponit

Hi everyone. I really love this show and I'm excited to hear everyone's theories! As I'm reading through these posts though I keep wondering why everyone is getting so hung up on what is and isn't a fairy tale. I think it's all semantics and the writer's are not restricting themselves to some narrow definition. King Midas is from Greek mythology, most of the characters are out of Kinder und Hausmaerchen and some are completely Disney. I'm sure there are many more. I think at this point just about anything is fair game!

The Dr. Whale question is killing me! I can't figure it out for the life of me. I think the little glimpse of his personality when he's talking to Snow White about never knowing what to expect has to be some kind of clue to his fairy tale character but I don't have any idea who
