There are a few actors that get a pass from me even if the movie they are in are awful. The most obvious to me is Hugh Jackman. Any others that can do that for you?

Roger Moore. He's almost always good, even if the rest of the movie blows.

No passes. For anyone. :o

I don't believe that's fair. If an actor or actress gives a good performance in a bad film, that's hardly his or her fault.

Now if the actor also gives a poor performance in addition to the other problems, that's a different story.

Frank Langella in Masters of the Universe sums that up for me. It's like he's in a different film than everyone else.

Or Raul Julia in Street Fighter for a similar example.

Daniel Day-Lewis.

Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Given that the pass is automatic, I think it applies to good performance and bad performance both. I just don't play that game. I've seen too many people look at what they perceive will be a bad movie and say "Well, now that they've cast _______, I guess I HAVE to see it!" No. No matter how much I might like an actor, they're not going to get me to see a movie that I'm not interested in or have already written off.

I have a select few that get a pass from me. Here's the few I like.

Arnold Schwarzenegger
Tom Hanks
Harrison Ford
Mel Gibson
Denzel Washington

Samuel L. Jackson
Tom Cruise
Denzel Washington
Hugh Jackman
Michael Caine (because his accent is so ridiculous, you can't help but to give him a pass)

Neeson
Bale
Oldman (he really pushed it though with Unborn and Red Riding Hood :argh:)

Oh man. I forgot about Oldman. That man deserved his Oscar ten years ago.

Christian Bale, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Michael Keaton, Michael Caine have all already been said but I also gotta go with the person who is probably my favourite actor, Clint Eastwood.

He makes any film pretty much watchable by just being himself.

Tim Curry, he just makes a movie awesome even in a small role :D

I'm with Sawyer on this. No actor/actress that I might like is in and of themselves just being in a film enough of a reason to get me to see it. Best I can do is maybe if there are two actors in a film and I'm really curious how they're on screen chemistry will play out if I hadn't seen it before or if I had and I like them together...then that might be enough. But usually I need the premise to hook me if I'm gonna see any film.

And no, I give no free passes. I also don't keep tabs of bad films an actor has been in, just bad performances.
