Actors Who Inexplicably Disappeared

Yeah, I like ATJ but I think he struggles in roles where he plays stoic hero types. For example, JGL’s character in TDKR wasn’t much deeper or edgier than ATJ’s in Godzilla, but he was 100% more memorable and likable. ATJ is better in quirkier roles.

Agreed. Frankly Blake is kind of a "nothing" role too, but JGL does the best he can with him and IMO more than ATJ would have done in the same role.

I too miss JGL in movies. I recently rewatched Looper and 50/50.

Two of his best roles along with 500 Days of Summer. He also uses his heaps of charm to keep The Walk afloat through its sluggish opening acts until the pace picks up when we get to NYC and the pseudo-heist movie shenanigans of smuggling himself and his cohorts into the World Trade Center.

Yeah I hope JGL has a bit of a comeback soon. I worry that if he stays away too long that he’s not going to get the good roles if he tries to get back in the game.

Yea JGL should still be doing movies, and Tom Hardy needs something better to do than Venom sequels. They're two of my favorites and they've both been weirdly MIA lately (apart from Venom for Hardy) after being busy from like 2010-2015 or so.

Hell, I'd watch an Inception-verse spin-off with JGL and Hardy's characters doing a job themselves and bickering/ambiguously flirting (?) all the way.

Hardy just seems like self sabotage. I remember reading an interview with Inarritu and going on and on about Leo, but when it came to Hardy he kept it brief. Even George Miller kinda alluded to not being enough money on the table to go back and work with Tom, while singing praises for Theron. I think the only real so called auteur that can handle him is Nolan. NWR in a podcast stated they couldn't pay him enough to work with Hardy again.

Hardy would be the ideal MCU Wolverine to me. And I got one for you guys: whatever happened to Katee Sackhoff? She was always the sci-fi action go to chick but you don’t really hear about her anymore.

Nah, Sackhoff has been working on tv/series regularly. She never disappeared, she is a constant working actress.

Yea I fear that's the case. Christopher Nolan seems to like him, given he's cast him three times, and he's friends with DiCaprio and Noomi Rapace, but Nolan seems to be among the few people who apparently has good experiences with Hardy (or at least thinks it's worth it).

I think Hardy is one of these actors that when the director didn't write the script, he feels like they don't have a better grasp on the story than him, so he feels like chiming in and flexing his star power and what not, but it is the opposite when he works with a writer/director combo.

That's possible, although didn't George Miller write and direct Fury Road?

Supposedly Hardy walked off set of Venom saying some of his lines were too stupid to say, and wouldn't come back until they changed them (which, given how stupid that movie still is, only can only guess what Hardy deemed unacceptable).

One wonders how him and Serkis will get along. I think they already know each other.

Hardy also claims he and Kelly Marcel (who is writing Venom 2) wrote Bronson, while Refn claims he wrote it.

That's part of what hurt Edward Norton. He had a notorious habit of just rewriting scripts and doing his own drafts and such.

Has JGL been on Broadway recently? Maybe he's focused on that aspect of his acting career rather than doing movies at this point.

I remember there were two other writers helping on FR, but Hardy mentioned during cannes that there was no script, just storyboards, which frustrated him. lol

And Hardy brought in Marcel without telling NWR, which led to them getting in a physical fight. Lawd.

Hardy and Marcel have been like BFFs for a long time. One wonders if he also arranged to have her brought in to write Venom 2.

I looked up JGL's wife and immediately said, Yup that makes sense. Not even the tumblr crowd could've gotten a better match for JGL. lawd.

You can't deny him choking Inarritu and then having the ballsiness to put it on a T-shirt is kind of hilarious.

Tis' the reason i've seen all his films in theaters, bald man. And I've sat through some of his stinkers.

JGL was attached to the Little shop of horrors update a while back but it never took offm

He and his buddy Channing Tatum also wanted to co-star in a musical about airline pilots or something.
