Actors Who Inexplicably Disappeared

He's the best actor that ever lived...evar!! And don't call me Frank Lee.

It just occurred to me that it's been a while since I've seen Robbie Coltrane in anything. Not that he really needs the work since I'm sure he could have comfortably retired from what he made on the Harry Potter films alone. I looked it up and apparently all he's really done lately are a BBC miniseries in 2016 and a true crime series that he hosts. I do miss seeing him in movies though.

Coltrain turned 70 back in March. There's not a lot of roles for people in their late 60's early 70's....plus it can be hard for older actors to get insured to appear in things.

Yeah. It’s unfortunate, but most great actors have an expiration date for their best work simply because writers rarely develop interesting juicy roles for older folks. That’s one of the reasons I’ve always held the opinion that the apparent decline of both DeNiro and Pacino didn’t hold that much weight. Yeah, they both took a lot of paychecks, but they couldn’t balance those out with interesting roles even if they wanted to. Hollywood doesn’t tend to write good roles for anyone past 65(even that might be giving them too much credit). The Irishman pretty much proved my point as both actors got some of their best reviews since HEAT.

Robbie Coltrane hasn't been acting because he has been battling illness.

Coltrane has been battling Osteoarthritis in his knee and was confined to a wheel chair for a while. Coltrane said he was in constant pain and had knee surgery.

It's even worse for women. Most actresses tend to stop acting around their mid 40's to early 50's. This is around 10 years earlier than men. The roles simply aren't provided for them.

Actor from the 90s to early 2000s who is most known for working on So Weird, the Disney Channel movie Brink!, and The Princess Diaries where he played the doofus popular kid Hathaway had a crush on.

He was also the star of the greatest Groundhog Day knock off ever Christmas Every Day for The Family Channel in 1996. That one still got air play every Christmas for years but I honestly don't know if it gets aired on Freeform like it did on Fox Family and ABC Family.

There are only a few actresses who almost have better careers in their “twilight” years; Helen Mirren, Meryl Streep and Judie Dench.

Good point. Hell, there’s a reason Best Actor is always way more crowded than Best Actress. There’s less interesting women roles of all ages.

Was reminded of Breckin Meyer recently.
Back in the late 90's, early 00's he seemed like he was going to be the next big comedy guy. Never really happened.

I should watch it. I have Amazon Prime.

I do slightly side-eye him making his "break" from movies sound intentional though. I mean maybe he wanted to focus on his young kids, but I just side-eye when actors make stuff like that sound like it was entirely of their own free will. Sometimes it is, but.......idk.

I believe him, but I'm also a stan so I'm just being transparent. :funny:

I think with his break, he also has HitRecord which he's so active with, and he was writing and creating a TV show for Apple, so his "break" doesn't really sound like one. Seems he was always doing things, just not things we see.

Ehrm, Michael Biehn

I just knew him recently when I watched all the 80s classics. It’s really strange because you expect him to be the biggest star in hollywood after Terminator and Aliens, but I have the impress that he’s kinda disappear after that.

Michael Biehn is set to appear in season 2 of The Mandalorian

I always thought it was weird because I think Michael Biehn was great in both Terminator and Aliens and outside those it just didn't seem to work.

While not exactly the same, it reminds me a bit of Bruce Campbell who I think is just wonderful in the Evil Dead trilogy (and the cameos in the Spider-Man films) but outside that his filmography is just mostly terrible B-movies. You could argue he was never a GREAT actor but when I see his performances in Evil Dead 2 or Army of Darkness I just feel like if he had been in better movies he could have been one of those classic 80s/90s action stars with the quippy oneliners.

What it is was that there were already enough action stars in the 80's that there just wasn't room for Biehn to be a leading man. Not even in his own movies. Schwarzenegger was running the show in Terminator , as was Sigourney Weaver in Aliens.
