The Force Awakens Adam Driver as Kylo Ren

Kylo was definitely one of the highlights of this movie. With and without the mask. Adam Driver was perfectly cast, IMO.

I buy him as Anakin's grandson, and as Han's son all at once. And loved the dichotomy of the persona he's trying to project vs. his internal conflict and insecurity.

He almost sounded like Javier Bardem bit.

The cool thing about Adam is while he does have a bit of a goofy face, he also has a great natural deep voice. Works perfectly for the dichotomy they're going after with him.

While I suspected Kylo would have ties to the Skywalker clan, he was better than expected and had more depth than anticipated. He is basically what Anakin should have been in the prequels. I loved him and his story moving forward is what I'm looking forward to the most.

his lightsaber wielding ability. cotdamn. i mean, he was facing storm trooper and a future padawan, but he's got great ability. adam was great.

The visual dictionary says that Kylo knows Vader turned good and Kylo considers it a failure brought on by his sentimentality. Kylo wants to purge himself of sentimentality so that he wont fail as Vader did.
By killing Han and not allowing his sentimentality and familial connections to make him weak he has now succeeded where Luke and Vader failed. Thats what Kylo believes, anyway.

Holy crap I never even considered that, the whole "I will finish what you started"; finishing the wrath of what Vader failed to complete because he gave into the love for his son. By Ren not giving into the love for his father, he believes he is continuing in his accomplishment of fully embracing the dark side. Very good observation, and Christ, how tragic when you think of the parallels here. Whereas Vader is saved by his son and Luke succeeds in redeeming his father, [BLACKOUT]Han[/BLACKOUT] is killed by his son and Kylo succeeds in defeating his father. This and the whole reversal of good versus evil, father versus son (the good Jedi son is now the evil, Sith-like son and the evil Sith father is now the good, martyred father. How freakin sad is that! :csad:

Honestly, those referring to Kylo Ren as 'Emo' should be barred from seeing future films.

He was emotionally unstable and trying to purge himself of the light. Proving himself to his dead grandfather.

There was nothing emo about him whatsoever.

I liked him but they bloody ruined him at the end, he got his arse kicked. Yes I know he was injured but his power level was inconsistent as ****. They should have saved the unmasking for his scene with Han Solo too. Kind of disapointed in his arc tbh, first hour great, second hour, meh.

Part of his arc is that he isn't all that great or powerful. Imposing against non force users but useless against those with fighting ability.

Rey clearly had some sort of training she was recalling throughout the film. It was refreshing to have the villain defeated so comprehensively and maimed in the first film. He'll come back with a vengeance next time around.

I think some of the people who have been *****ing about Kylo either didn't understand what the film was trying to do with the character, or simply weren't paying attention.

well that's a mistake, a big bad should be a big bad and for me him getting his butt kicked by someone who was completely untrained in a light sabre fight was a bad decision.

She could fight yeah but suddenly an expert for a light sabre.

Maybe you're right, I might look back when they do 8 & 9 and feel better about it. Overall I did like him.

I thought he was great. My biggest complaint is his thinly written motivation to hate his father so much. But that doesn't speak to Adam's performance of the character in general IMO.

He seemed pretty consistent to me and it's not like Finn and Rey didn't any fighting skills.

With Finn, he wasn't taking him too seriously, which allowed him to get hurt even more. Eventually he got serious and was done with him.

He seemed to to be trying to take down Rey, but later changed his mind when he thought about taking her on as an apprentice... like Vader did with Luke.

Upon reflection, I think the PT (and other stuff) has affected what people expect out of the Jedi and Sith. What we saw in this film was closer to how they came off in the OT.

OR they have their own opinion, honestly hate when people say s**t like this.

I think some people may be thinking too simplistic of that one cruel act he does towards the end as less about him just being evil and more about him realizing he is so far gone, he can't stand to disappoint you know who any longer and that is the only way to ease the suffering.

I also think they should have done more with his temper, he gets so angry at times and he should have gotten more angry in the final fight.

While I agree (this is Star Wars after all, not quantum physics), you're pretty guilty of this yourself when the discussion turns to Man of Steel. Lesson learned, perhaps?

I'm really not, I don't disrespect peoples opinions saying they're wrong for disliking something. If people make factual errors that's another thing but opinion is opinion.

Maybe we should stick to Star Wars in here hmm?

Because I felt it was building to that, Ren was a very emotional man and I think although they did convey he was emotional in the fight I felt the way they built his rage they should have paid it off with him using his rage against Rey. Just a personal opinion.

When it comes to the final fight, I really like the idea that kylo ren is still in his training. I suspect that for EP 8, we'll get simultaneous training of both Rey and Kylo ren, in which they'll basically be represented as opposites. The stronger they both get, the more the force will draw them together for a rematch in order to balance itself.

I just thought it was to show he was emotionally childish at times. So, if he gets angry/annoyed, he's going to throw a temper tantrum as a way to vent. It didn't get that way for him while fighting and I don't think he'd allow himself to do that too.
