The Force Awakens Adam Driver as Kylo Ren

At what point in the history of Star Wars have you expected something other than a family movie?
I don't. But apparently everybody else does. As evidenced by the fact that Empire is their favorite movie, Not ANH or Jedi. And that ROTS is the only prequel they'll even acknowledge exists because its so wonderfully "dark".

And now these same people are telling us they love TFA because its so lighthearted and funny. Makes no sense to me.

I kinda disagree.

Good lord! I never found Harrison or Carrie attractive but they were lily good looking. How did those 2 produce that offspring? They had to cast him based solely on his talent and not his looks.

Not sure if you've noticed, but Driver has an extremely unusual appearance, making it nearly impossible to cast him in a film where he is supposedly related to any good looking western/northern european descent actors/actresses.

Hamill and Fisher are conventionally good looking and anglo in appearance. They don't look like twins but there is at least a passing resemblance.
There's zero resemblance between Luke and Leia. Except they're both good-looking humans. You just don't like Adam Driver's appearance and so you pull excuses on why he was a miscast. I don't feel that way. He was great.

While Jedi is my favorite star wars movie and ANH is the worst of the first 3 even though it is still good. So empire is not my favorite Jedi is. When it comes to the prequels 3 is the only one worth any thing. Episode 1 and 2 are 2 of the worst 5 movies I have ever seen before.

Luke and Leia looked nothing alike but they both resembled their parents more than each other. Leia in ANH even looked like TPM Anakin.

This conversation is ridiculous and anyone who thinks Adam Driver's look deters him from roles he should have is an idiot. An ignorant idiot. And I'm not even sorry for saying that, because it is incredibly shallow and mean spirited. People who feel inferior to his looks or success are the ones thinking such things.

Adam Driver was a highlight of this film and a new fan favorite in the Star Wars mythos. Let it be, move on, and may the Force be with you.

So much this. Except I didn't know he's a fan favorite (happy to know). I read plenty of mean-spirited discussions about his look. Even though I like how he looks.

Most people loved him..initial reactions on here were extremely positive

As far as Adam Driver / Ben Solo's looks go, I just figured post RotJ, Leia developed a drinking problem, got pregnant and didn't quit. That would also help explain why he's so messed up.

100% agree.

Can I get an amen brotha!?

I thought it was a smart interesting way of making kylo a poser of the darkside. Clearly he is not as strong as vader and he knows it.

When apparently heterosexual nerds are griping about another dude not being hot enough....I ain't got nothing for you.

Great actor, great villain, maybe my favorite part of the film.

Okay, because the rest of what you said is irrelevant, if you don't go into Star Wars expecting a dark movie, and you enjoyed Avengers for being lighthearted and fun (or as you put it, cartoonish) what exactly is your problem with this movie falling under those categories?

If i controlled the world i would have put some sort of gas masky apparatus on the front of his mask. I didn't love how it was so flat. Minor quip.

That being said he was really cool. My daughter said he was her favorite.

I wonder if with the injuries sustained, he will now get something very similar to the Darth Vader costume

I don't want to see a depressing arthouse movie anymore than I want to see a Shia Leboof stormtrooper or a Emo Vader clone played for laughs.

Can't there be some middle ground?

I totally enjoyed the character and thought he could pass as Solo/Leias son. The character is different from his grandfather to make him unique which is great. Can't wait to see what they do with him in the sequels.

I'm really interested to see how he came corrupted.

If he does, it won't be because of his injuries from that fight. He can still walk, didn't have any limbs severed, etc.

Wasn't this movie middle ground enough? I found that it struck a nice balance tonally. The Han/Kylo scene was a bit hamfisted for my tastes, but no movie is perfect.

I like Kylo Ren more then Ben so if he ever turns good, I won't be calling him Ben Solo
