The Force Awakens Adam Driver as Kylo Ren

So that's what we're comparing it to now? Avengers is a cartoon. Star Wars is not. But if that's what it's become then so be it.

I thought Star Wars was supposed to be all about "darkness" but now all we want are jokes? I wish the so-called fans would make up their minds. :whatever:

At what point in the history of Star Wars have you expected something other than a family movie? A movie about "good triumphing over evil." A movie with so many physical impossibilities that it has to be called Space Fantasy instead of Science Fiction.

Avengers is a cartoon? man now i'm really confused. Did you mean to say comic book? Or do you actually mean that the live-action movie is akin to children's animation? In which case... are you not a fan? So you like that The Avengers is a cartoonish movie but can't handle Star Wars being fun and lighthearted? This movie is probably in the top 3 "darkest" Star Wars movies. I really dont understand what youre complaining about.

He was miscast. As I said in another thread, Driver should've been the chipper younger pilot and Oscar should've been the older, darker, more cynical Kylo Ren.

Driver worked because he was inexperienced, wearing his big daddy pants when he was an amateur. I liked that he beyond his grasp.

I think they made the right call. If Oscar Isaacs was playing the role you probably wouldn't understand why Kylo Ren felt the need to overcompensate so much. I can see him being a true heir apparent to Lord Vader, but with Driver I can buy that he wants to be Vader so much, but he's not, he can't be. Kylo Ren is mentally weak, and Driver shows that very well.

Driver is poor casting. He looks absolutely nothing like Solo or Leia either, which is another problem.

It's almost as bad as Coppola casting his daughter as Michael and Kay's daughter. Sophia looks VERY sicilian, whereas the Corleone daughter is supposed to be mixed blood Anglo and Sicilian. Winona Ryder would have been PERFECT.

Ben is suppose to be this insecure young man. He's lanky and not imposing, hence his outfit. It's sorta meta in how the character thinks because I think he does it for the theatrics.

Miscast? He's one of the best castings for a big franchise since ever.

The offspring should have some passing resemblance to their parents, no?

The character just doesn't work for me. The goofy bird snout is an unimaginative reprisal of the vader mask.

The am radio/fast food drive thru voice is just totally derivative.

Vader was Vader. Let the new bad guy do something a bit more innovative.

I really enjoyed this film, but JJ's SW is a 100% retread.

Like the EU isn't with the Solo/Skywalker kids?

He wasn't. He worked really great from the moment where he meets his father. They just needed to polish everything before that. To stage it more carefully. Kylo Ren starts to shine as a character only in the very end. Before that it was kinda lost in concept.

I liked kylo ren's voice in the mask and his character so far. I am looking forward to more of him.

Just think of Ren as Max Landis, with similar insecurities and struggling to make his own mark and wanting to be like his old man.

I had zero preconceived notions about either Driver or Ren.

My criticism is in the context of overall lack of imagination in Abrams' version of the SW universe.

There is going to be some criticism of the film if it copies and pastes literally every last single plotline and device from SWANH.

Perhaps in the SW universe there is no genetic similarity between parents and offspring? If so the Driver casting is just fine. Otherwise, common sense dictates that there are often profound similarities between parents and offspring.

Adam Driver doesn't resemble Ford and Carrie one bit, I'll give you that. It's my only mild criticism of the character. Otherwise his looks and portrayal were spot on IMO.

I kinda disagree.

because he has Ford's nose, Fisher's chin, a combination of their mouths, the same hair and eye color.

Well, we already have posters who claim that if all three look over their shoulders with a pout, the family similarity is borne out 100% SMH.

There is no behavioral similarity between Ren and his parents, either. His parents are strong headed, incredibly funny, loyal and despite Han's tough exterior, an eternal optimist.

Ren is none of those things. He does draw considerably from his parent's warrior heritage, but that could be said about any warrior character, generically speaking, not of Solo/Leia children in particular.

LOL. You're adorable when you're trying to be contrarian.

I can buy he can be their son. I personally don't look that much like my parents, but closer to my grangranpa on father's side. And my father looks almost nothing like his granpa. It's possible.
