The Force Awakens Adam Driver as Kylo Ren

You know what I thought was a great touch for Kylo? His soft voice, it's in sharp contrast to Vader's booming, commanding voice but I actually think that made Kylo more creepy, he is like a child with immense power.

I thought it was a really great touch personally.

I think Kylo's going to come back with a vengeance in the next one. The baddie always wins the second movie of the trilogy. Vader cut off Luke's hand, Dooku cut of Anakin's arm and wounded Obi-Wan... I think Kylo will be back more powerful and committed than ever.

I think he's going to seriously f'up Rey. I think hunting her will be his primary goal in Ep VIII.

I just thought - it would be very, very interesting if come of the early concept art, the mechanical man holding Vader's helmet, is what Kylo eventually became. I loved that image so much, that it would be a shame if it didn't become part of the series. He wants to become like Vader, or become Vader, so much that he does gradually become more robotic and machine himself, but in that patched up way the image suggests. Or the corruption of the Dark Side really does tear him apart piece by piece, and he's put together again with spare parts.

The story was that the Dark Side was holding him together. He was so scarred, so damaged but his anger and his hate kept him from falling to pieces?

I mean we have this great concept here, with the Dark Side and what it can do or supposedly does. It has a rich history - like the Jedi - and it would be great to see Kylo and Snoke visit a Sith temple, and Kylo's fall further in.

I hadn't even thought of that. I could sort of see him doing it. By the end of this film he seemed to have lost it. To be like Vader, he tries to turn himself into Vader.

I am a couple pages behind, admittedly, but for anyone still mad that Rey ostensibly whooped Kylo Ren, think of it this way...

Two tennis players have a match. Player A has several years of training and coaching from the world's best teachers. Although player A has much to learn, he is efficient and a great player.

Player B has never played tennis before. Player B has played other sports and is a highly accomplished athlete, but they have never played a tennis match.

5 minutes before the match, player A finds out he has a death in the family, while simultaneously being shot in the torso by a hand gun or shotgun or crossbow or rocksalt, whatever...

The match begins, and player B ends up winning. This is not so suprising, is it?

So concerning Kylo vs Ren, if you have a problem with one scenario and not the other, maybe you should rewatch the scene again.

Any idea as to why exactly Ben turned to the dark side? Did somebody corrupt him once he got to the Academy or are we supposed to assume that Han and Leia were terrible parents? Or is that something we'll find out in the next movie...

He was Han Solo. We as fanboys eat it up but he was never really a nice person.

I thought the concept of the character was strong, the delivery of performance was very good and the motives were excellent, one of the strongest points of the film for me.

I think the dialogue implies that Leia and Ben may have had an unusually antagonistic relationship for mother and son, not abusive or anything, but something likely to happen when a woman who watched her planet blow up partially under the authority of her own father starts seeing some resemblance in her own kid. And it seems implied that Leia sending Ben to Luke lead to Han leaving Leia; I think that he and Ben may have been closer when Kylo was younger, but that Han "abandoning" the family afterwards really hurt Ben.

Then it sounds like Luke did his best with the kid, but Snoke snuck in and somehow convinced Ben he should idolize Vader, and bam! Kylo Ren is born.

Here is something that occurred to me; Kylo seems to be the only Knight of Ren with a lightsaber, and he appears to have cobbled one roughly together on his own. Since we don't see that Padawan he kills with a lightsaber either, I think Luke put off that portion of Jedi education until later. So he would have focused on Force moves- like Kylo's stun and freeze maneuver, which isn't inherently aggressive or offensive, and in fact seems like the perfect non-lethal move for a Jedi. It's also the only move Kylo seems perfectly trained at, so I think Luke probably focused on that hoping to get Kylo to keep his anger under control with a non-lethal move that would afford him time to calm down.

I do too! I think he at least slashes her pretty face up! He killed his own dad to kill the light. He will HAVE to almost make her a total cripple. Or yet worse cpture Luke and slash his face all up and crucify him in front of Rey!! it will get nasty for sure!! I love his character. He is soooooooo messed up and unpredictable. You never know what his next move is. Unlike Vader or any sith lord. We were never surprised only grossed out. This dude is totally surprising.

Sounds like we have a person who LOVES the dark side unlike we ever had. Maybe he was naturally dark unlike Anikin who was supposed to be good and turned. Kylo sounds like he is doomed to the dark but was born to good parents.

Mentioning that padawan he struck down. It looks like he was gonna attack Rey with a staff that looks alot like her own

My guess is Kylo always felt weak in the shadow of his legendary parents. That grew into resentment and later to hate.

Great observations. Yeah, it definitely seems he had huge resentment towards Han, calling him a coward and telling Snoke his father means nothing to him. And then, on the other hand, thinking of Han alone was a pull toward the lightside. Something definitely went down between the two, and perhaps being sent away by Leia had something to do with it all.

It makes me wonder though, if it was Leia who sent Kylo away, why doesn't Kylo ever mention her or feel a tug of the lightside of the Force from Leia? It seems all of his resentment is toward Han, but what kind of feelings does he have for his mother? How awful would it be if Kylo felt he needed to off his mother as well in order to complete his training?

I can actually see this thing concluding with Kylo 's death driving Leia to the brink and in the final conflict having her join Luke and Rey to defeat Snoke.. I see all three of them about to lose and out of the force itself walks Anakin Skywalker!!!

Vader had a lightsaber because he was a fallen Jedi, Ren idolises Vader so of course he would aspire to use one, albeit a rough and inelegant version. Kylo's sabre is not like any Lightsaber we've see before, the blade buzzes and crackles in a chaotic nature, he holds it one handed yet swings it like a broadsword, in wide strokes. I think it's obvious that Snoke has never given him formal training with the weapon and perhaps even looks down upon it's usage.
