Transformers After re-watching "Transformers the Movie" Last Night

I saw the movie at the tender age of 10 and I admit I was shocked at seeing all the '84 Autobots die, but I figured it was a necessity to move the story along and to distance the Transformers from the more kid-friendly rivals the GoBots.

If you watch the interview with writer Flint Dille on the box sets even he admits that in one way it was good doing away with the '84 line because the 3rd season episodes didn't seem so repetitive as the earth bound stories were.

It was also a good foreshadowing to show that the movie was going to deal with a lot more serious themes than the normal afternoon cartoon.

Well, I am looking forward to the DVD release.

On a side note...I was doing some reading about how the movie has developed so far and something Lorenzo Di Bonaventura said really truly irked me. If this was the attitude of the producers from the start then we know that they had zero intentions of being faithful to the look of G1.

Optimus Prime and all the characters will be in there, they wont look…I hope they don’t look the same because I think those characters wont hold up on motion pictures. I think that’s why that animated movie never worked.

One man's view of how they "should" look is better than 20 years worth of history of how they have looked.

I remember holding ironhide while watching ironhide get killed, I'd rented it myself, it was my first solo rental.
Music sucked too.

Hmmm...last time I checked, the animated movie...worked.

I liked it. I liked the music and I liked all the new transformers.

Didn't like the killing of the old ones.

It's funny because of all the reasons the animated movie actually failed, this is the first time I've Lorenzo's rather lame excuse. Infact the visuals themselves were one of the better aspects of the movie.

Although what can you expect from someone who'd probably hire Clooney over Cullen?

I liked it too but I don't think the movie got great reviews or did very well in the box office. Peter Cullen even makes mention of that in one of his interviews.

Exactly. I cannot find the particular quote but I do remember reading him saying something like, "Why would anybody want the original voice actors? That's silly/ridiculous". It goes to show that most people in the Hollywood big machine think that anything that is too faithful to the source material will be crap on film.

I don't get it, they don't think the original voices are modern enough? Please, I'm all for modernising the series for the big screen but certain aspects of the original Transformers still have a modern relevance. I still don't know why they didn't keep with the whole "draining earth's fuel resources" that IMHO is very revelant to today.

And to me at least... it went to the very heart of Transformers.
But, I wouldn't expect that sort of stuff in a Bay movie... quite the opposite.... http://www.digitallyobsessed.com/showarticle.php3?ID=7 (posted before but worth repeating).

Is Michael Bay on G.W. Bush's payroll?

More like on his christmas card list. He gets invited to all the cocktail parties.

And to think that article was probably written before Pearl Harbor... not to mention The Island, which is a statement on stem cell research among other things (http://www.libertyfilmfestival.com/libertas/index.php?p=601).

Nothing new?.................................................Disappointing:csad:

Still the cleaned version of the movie is what I want to see

How well does the movie lok compared to the older released versions, The Guardian?

Plus i knew we wouldn't get alot of movie stuff on here. Like i've mentioned time and time again, filming just wrapped-there's no way we could get anything half decent so soon...

I didn't think we'd get any cg clips, I'm mostly interested in Spielberg's commentary.

The movie didnt do well commercially since too many parents complained that their kids were crying over Optimus Prime.....It's one of the reasons why the G. I. Joe movie went straight to video and Duke survived being stabbed in the heart with a snake....

NOW!!! (if you live in the states)

I don't know what the quality of TFTM has to do with the quality of Michael Bay's forthcoming cinematic abortion.
