AGENTS of SHIELD will return for a 3rd season and almost assured its longevity
Without watching the season finale this coming tuesday what are your thought on the upcoming 3rd season
We know the potential tie in to the Civil War also the Inhumans
But what else......what other loose ends and or potential new threats should SHIELD face?

I love the Inhuman storyline but this isn't the Inhumans show so they need to pull back from them for a bit early next season. I think Skye should ditch SHIELD and the Inhumans and be on her own as a vigilante before joining SHIELD as a registered superhero.
I am really kind of hoping they cut back on the movie tie-in. This last one was kind of dubious and painful. The show is at its best when its allowed to pursue its own thing, whether it be Hydra splinters or Inhumans.
I gotta say I'm very happy to hear this. After watching a couple of episodes in season 1, I dropped the show like a bad habit. Then when I heard how the show got better after Winter Soldier and season 2, I jumped back on and I'm happy I did. The show is consistently good and the characters are really growing on me.
I think the creative team behind the show REALLY need to take this opportunity though to knock it out of the park for season 3. As good as the show is now, it still hasn't become one of those "appointment tv/ watercooler" shows that people are talking and buzzing about. I don't know how this season is going to end but they need to use season 3 as an opportunity to start fresh and really find a good hook to bring people into the show. My ideas:
1) Get Colbie Smoulders back and make Maria Hill a recurring character. Her and Coulson become the "generals" of a new SHIELD team.
2) Focus more on Mockingbird, Hunter and Mackenzie.
3) Focus more on SHIELD agents. This is what the show should've done from episode one. I think people, including myself, got turned off by the whole "junior crew in training" aspect. Do what season 2 did and let's bring in more diverse SHIELD agents who are the best they are at what they do.
4) No more Hydra. Let's start fresh. We can still keep the Inhumans story in the background but I think the show will need a stronger antagonistic hook. My own personal wacky idea: Bring in Blade and vampires. Just imagine that. Imagine a big mega story arc where SHIELD discovers the existence of vampires in the world and realizes that they a threat that need to be shut down. They would obviously frequently butt heads with Blade while they determine if this guy is friend or foe.
I think something like this would do wonders for the show. It won't happen but I think if this show were allowed to use more toys from the Marvel toybox then it could do wonders for them.
Season 2 focused on Skye's journey and gave us a superhero origin story. Maybe season 3 could do that with Bobbi/Mockingbird? I'm not saying it will happen, but it could be interesting.
I hope we get to see more Sharon Carter and Maria Hill plus the introduction of Jimmy Woo and Clay Quartermain. Make Woo and Quartermain part of a S.H.I.E.L.D. group focused on more supernatural situations. This would tie nicely into the upcoming Iron Fist and Doctor Strange.

well you know there will be a Civil War tie in obviously
Still would like to see Gravition
Also something that will effect the Marvel Movie Universe where its mentioned
Maybe the Index and the incoming Civil War will cause half the team to become Secret Warriors? Though that might be a retread of the Real SHIELD story.
Or secret Avengers. There seems to be some facility which has experts in powered people. They took Deathlok there for repairs. If as I expect, after Civil War , Captain America is shot or arrested and the formal public Avengers is closed down (until Avengers 3) Caulson could be the leader of a black ops powered team.

I thought the Ultron tie-in was too forced. It just seemed to skip several beats in the story at one point. I've seen AoU already and I don't feel as though it makes it any better.
Though I like how Winter Soldier influenced things and I don't think SHIELD would be as good without that development. Personally I hope that there are still some inclusions from the MCU, but they are used more organically with the story at hand.
Speaking of inclusion from the MCU. I would like to see it go the other way too. So far it really only seems to be a one way street and I think that's a shame. It's like SHIELD is the bastard step-child only getting scraps. I don't think SHIELD needs to be forced onto MCU movies like some inclusions have on the show, but it would be great in my opinion to see Coulson and co. have small cameos here and there.
Also, like others have said, I would like to see Graviton return. I want to see more super powered villains and heroes. Hopefully some costumed characters too.

I agree but Marvel's got a big problem here IMO. The elephant in the room is Coulson. You should be able to watch the movies without having seen the TV series (and most people who watch the movies have NOT). For Coulson to just pop up out of nowhere without any explanation would break continuity and without the whole backstory, I believe it would be jarring and most likely difficult to accept for general audiences.
I've mentioned this elsewhere but the other thing is TAHITI. With that whole project just hanging out there they kind of need to figure out how that correlates to what just happened in the film. Supposedly the whole point of that was to save an Avenger. Phil is worth saving but...
not Pietro? A character who has abilities like no one else in the world?
Yet right now it seems AOS is this orphaned project within the MCU especially based on Whedon's recent comments. Shame too because it's finally gotten really really good. I personally think a suitably tragic ending for AOS Season 3 would be for the TAHITI project to ultimately fail and Coulson succumb to the effects like everyone else did. That would not only maintain the height of the stakes in these films but would solve all of these other problems too IMO. (Don't get me wrong - I like Coulson but we will have gotten three full seasons of his character post mortem - far more than any fan could have ever expected or hoped for.)
SHIELD will carry on. Focus on other characters and legitimize the show on the big screen with two-way tie-ins that don't compromise continuity or story in either direction. Just grace notes to say - yeah this really is all connected. Meanwhile there are so many other properties to mine on the small screen. e.g. How cool would a Hawkeye TV show based on the Fraction run be?

There were like 6-7 other people who were successfully revived/healed by GH-325 as we saw this season in "The Writing on the Wall", and 3, Coulson included, still live to this day. The unintended after-effect was the crazy writing, and even that stopped when they finally figured out what it was all about.
I guess it is for the better for him. Though I just wish it didn't look like he was scrapping the bottom of the barrel for Hydra goons. Plus him going on a redemptive arc would have been a bit hard to swallow.

TAHITI seems to have changed from resurrection to a simple mind wipe (though it's fair to say that the latter was always an element in the original version of the programme). The don't have the means anymore. Even if they did they did season 1 seemed to establish fairly clearly that the project, as it stood then, was not a good thing and Coulson did not approve of it. Doubt they would use it now even if they could.
I have to disagree about Coulson. I think killing Coulson off just so you can have a two way street in terms of crossover is just short sighted. It still calls for a retconning/ignoring of his presence in the show prior. Plus Coulson is a great character and fans will still want to see him carry on in the show, not to mention that since we knew Coulson would be back in some form that fans have often asked to see him in the movies meeting the Avengers again. Fans want that explanation, not a retcon.
