Superman Returns AICN interview with Singer

Singer is such an egomaniac. He can't even accept the fact that he gave us a horrible story, and he's trying to put the blame on Superman's lack of success on the sequel of POTC 2.

Singer seriously needs psychiatric help. He needs medication to deal with what is fast becoming an out of control emotional disorder with his egomania. A person in that condition needs to be institutionalized before he hurts himself more or someone else.

QUINT:SUPERMAN RETURNS will make its money back no matter what...

BRYAN SINGER: It already has!

SR was good. until singer makes a sequel with zod he will be a good director for me. but........enough with the bull**** singer. now it is enough. if you dotn know what to say be quiet. i notced this year that singer just doesnt knwo what he is talking about.

it already has?

singer: superman doesnt need action. noone wants to see action.

Well I don't think he needs psychiatric help. He just needs a reality check and an ego check. But I hate the way he talks. Repeating stuff and almost talking in 3rd party about stuff.

Damn you, Singer! You egomaniacal idiot!

He won't admit it's his ****ing fault.
Maybe he'll turn Brainiac into an EMO villain by giving him a girlfriend and an heir...who knows where Singer might go in the sequel...

he needs a slap. or what is the right word? someoen needs to kick hes ass. i think brandon is the right guy. he needs a reality check from superman himself. :)

Guys, the theatrical take is not the only way WB is making money off this film. That's just a plain fact. If it was, then yes, he would be delusional in that statement.

But considering all the avenues WB is using to make money off this one film alone, he's technically right. And we haven't even got to DVD sales yet.

Factor in all the avenues that WB is using, it has made a lot of cash. The only thing we get is the theatrical box office angle, which is a big part, but not the whole pie.

I *love* this bit!

QUINT: Since you did it with SUPERMAN and we're both huge JAWS fans, how about JAWS RETURNS and make the real JAWS 3 now?

BRYAN SINGER: I would never touch JAWS! That's something that's too... No, no, no... I have fantasies about it, especially since lately they've been advertising this shark movie (maybe he meant Shark Week on Discovery?)... at all the bus stops, there are all these shark poster... It's got me in a shark mood... but, no, no.

QUINT: C'mon, you can get Brody and Hooper back...

BRYAN SINGER: I couldn't do it! I could do it! I couldn't do it to Steven! He's my idol!

So let me get this straight- Singer would NEVER do a 'Jaws' sequel because he likes the source material and respects the filmmaker who did the original too much? WTF?!?!?! That's sort of a back-handed slap at Richard Donner isn't it? I.E.: I didn't *really* care about Superman nor do I idolize Donner enough to not do a half-assed sequel to his film that I purport to respect?

A$$.

I need a drink.

"When I first made X-MEN 1, it was a comic book, but it was also a Saturday Morning Cartoon. People were like, "What?!?" It took a while to get everybody excited. It didn't just explode."

Singer doesn't believe he gave us a crappy film. He made the film the way he thought was best. Most likely, he truly believes it's a good film. He's wrong, but I'll bet he believes it's good.

I would hope though, that over time, he realizes it's not good and will make a decent sequel.

He shouldn't give interviews until (and if) he inks a deal for a sequel.

Robocop,

If they understand that they are more avenues than just the theatrical box office, then some would understand that the Superman brand has made a crap load of cash during this year....

Who cares how many Superman lunchboxes or backpacks have been sold. The movie is a dissapointment, on every level, but mostly the box office take. If someone can't even admit that, what's the point of having this discussion. It's like arguing with a wall.

Lets forget other avenues and concentrate on the film.

the film has made it money back.. the film will most likely do well on dvd, so he made a film you didn't like..it doesn't make him the anti christ..some of you are acting like children in a playground.

"It already has!"

Denial is not just a long river in Africa...

your talking crap..in your opinion it dissapointed.

But the film hasn't been a complete flop.. hell its close to Batman Begins numbers.. and it had a bigger challange than Batman had.

matt,

WB cares how many lunchboxes, backpacks, TV and Cartoon DVDs, and cereal the film sells. That all goes to the Superman brand/franchise pot. That's not chump change.

Again, I would agree if theatrical box office was the only measure. But, we all know it isn't. With the upcoming DVD and Chris Reeve boxset and TV rights, it'll get in the black.

It would've been nice if it got in the black solely on theatrical receipts but most films today have a hard time doing that. It takes a bit more now...especially with franchises. There are exceptions to the rule...but Superman isn't one of them at the moment.

wait a minute. what about batman & robin? it was a disaster. so i think that BB had it harder. plus superman is superman. it should be like spiderman with a cape.

BB was having more action than superman. but it is superman for christ sake.

yup,its only 20 mill behind B.B. internationally, and when japan opens it should pass it.

You have become extremely unpleasant lately. Just because people feel strongly AGAINST this film now, doesn't make them "children". It's funny how you only make this claim while referring to people who dislike this film, but never to the horrible attitudes on display by the "Defenders" of this film.

And since this is the Superman Returns NOT SR and All Other Money Making Endeavors, we ARE focusing on just the film. As is WB.
