Interesting...

Gotham appeared to lose its biggest villain in the winter finale, when the Riddler vs Penguin battle came to a dramatic close. But a villain of epic proportions is coming to town, as one of Batman's most cunning foes, Ra's al Ghul, joins the cast in the final eight episode run of the season that airs this spring. Alexander Siddig, a well-liked TV actor from Game of Thrones, Da Vinci's Demons, Atlantis, 24, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and more will step into the role of the nigh-immortal villain who in the comics seeks to make Bruce Wayne his heir as he controls the world from the shadows.

The role is a recurring one that will start later this season, and Ra's will be seen as "pulling the strings" of everything going on in Gotham City, including the actions of the Court of Owls and other villains. To say it's a big undertaking is an understatement. Interestingly, Siddig will be the first Arab man to play this character of Arabian origins.

Interesting. Glad to hear they actually got someone of Arabian nationality to play him.

So now someone's been pulling the Court's strings, even. How high up does this chain of shadowy people in Gotham City go?

You could say the League of Assassins is cooperating with the Court Of Owls in controlling Gotham, but Ra's to be using them for his own end and nothing else.

I never liked the guy they cast as Ra's as well. He never gave off that sense of mysterious aura and sophistication to me.

Oh no.

Well, at least they found the perfect casting choice, like always.

So have the Court of Owls been trying to bring people back to life so that can bring Ra's back?

Their Ra's casting still leaves me scratching my head. Not right aesthetically or in terms of personality. But then, a lot about season 3 leaves me scratching my head.

Siddig is a great choice (I think I suggested him in a casting thread somewhere), though I never expected to be seeing him when Bruce is still so young. Curious to see how they play this out.

Finally, a Ra's al Ghul who's not white.

I never thought this would happen because cw had a version i find this great news.especilly with siddig in part.

the CW version was a bit closer to comics than nolan version was.hopefully this will be even better.

It's a great character, Siddig's a great actor...hopefully they don't screw him over like they did on Game of Thrones.

I gave up on Gotham a long while back, but Siddig is a fine actor and an interesting choice for Ra's. Good luck to him.

I haven't watched Gotham for ages. It's good to see Siddig getting another role and as Ra's al Ghul. Has he had any work since Deep Space Nine ended?

BTW, I didn't realise his uncle is Malcolm McDowell. If you look at them, they actually do have a physical resemblance.

A lot. Films, television...he's been quite active.

Yay for a Ra's who looks like Ra's.

Why didn't they get him for Arrow instead of that other guy? Although I can't really see him fighting Oliver Queen.

Because Gotham almost always has flawless casting, while the Arrow does not (this is not to say they have awful casting, just that their cast is nowhere near as consistent as Gotham's).

You might be surprised. Give him a few months of training and those magical 'Hollywood protein shakes' :o and who knows! :funny:

Julian Bashir always seemed a bit weedy in Deep Space Nine. He was very skinny. Has Siddig ever played a role where he's tougher and more intimidating?

As he gets older though, he's sounding more like Malcolm McDowell, and looking more like him, so there is that.
