Sega Alien: Isolation

Yeah, the gun and shotgun are completely useless against that thing.

I think it's because this game is meant to be a follow up and in the spirit of Ridley Scott's Alien. It's essentially dismissing what Cameron did which was make the Alien a bug that could die. Scott's Alien was something else entirely and seemed damn near unstoppable. Ripley even fired a rocket engine in the thing's face and it just blew it back and it flew off into space unharmed and screaming. Very much still alive. Scott's Alien was a boogeyman. One of those stalking movie monsters that can't be killed. It's a whole different beast from the bugs in Cameron's Aliens.

Yep that's true. I would say it adds to the gameplay that way. It's not supposed to be a FPS so making the alien unkillable makes it a lot more scary.

Definitely. It really makes you feel helpless which is exactly how the player should feel cause that's how the character should be feeling. Idk I might get frustrated with it or bored with it after 10 hours or so, but I got to give the developers props. This is true survival horror.

Oh and I highly recommend playing this game with the Sony Gold Headset or some other 7.1 or 5.1 or even stereo headset. It crank's the intensity up to the Nth degree.

Once I found plans for the Molotov, I felt empowered. It felt good to watch the Xeno scamper away in fear after many hours keeping me paranoid.

Oh yeah, I am only using regular stereo headsets and that was great, so I can imagine how awesome it would be with surround.

Yep fire is the best weapon against it. Imagine how disappointed I got when I realized that I had missed to pick up the flamethrower at the first spot in the game. Luckily it was placed on several locations througout.

Guns on Humans, Blunt objects on Droids, and Fire on Xeno. I think that's how it works.

Yup

Although I do fancy a nice shotgun to the head at the droids, especially after a emp bomb :word:

Bit of an issue. I'm trying to make an EMP mine and I have enough items. It lets me choose all but two but won't let me choose the last two needed despite having more than what I need to craft it.

That's odd, are you on PC? I encountered a few bugs myself (on PC) but nothing major.

I'm on 360. I was fine making everything else up to then but I can't make that for some reason. Maybe the game wants me to hold off to use it for something else. I'll play a bit more then try it again.

Went to a new area, was able to do it. Go figure. I'm just finishing the medical section, about how far along am I?

Also, just got the Hide. Run. Survive. Achievement for finishing that without dying. Only found out that was a thing about 10 minutes before getting it. :D

If you are where I think you are then you just completed Mission 5 or 6. If so then you are 1/3 of the way through the game. The game is split into 18 missions that take around 20 hours to complete.

GODDAMN TELEPORTING M***********!!!! He literally goes through one door and vanishes then he's on the other side of the opposite door within one or two seconds. He doesn't even hop in the vents, he just slinks off down the hall, vanishes then pops up in front of me.

All in all, Hard mode isn't that bad. Besides avoiding the Alien, whose patterns I had down pretty well by now, the humans are the most annoying since I'm not trying to kill anyone. I have tons of stuff, most of my weapons and distractions are full up and I don't think I've used more than half a dozen distractions on the alien except to send him after some people who keep trying to murder me.

The game is a lot longer than one might expect. There were several times towards the end where I though "okay maybe one more hour now and then it's over" only to have it go on for hours and hours :woot:

I looked it up and and it turns out that sending the Alien after humans to get them out of your way doesn't add to your kill count. Hehehe... :D

Also, I noticed I have a strange feeling of invincibility after hitting a save point where I just book it around the place ignoring he consequences. The alien doesn't seem to spawn that often if I just tear around after saving. It's weird. I had just made a molotov and wanted to try it so I equipped it and ran around for a few minutes at top speed and he never showed up. I was fairly disappointed.

Yeah I have seen several playthroughs where the gamer runs around a lot and still the alien doesn't seem pop up that often.

And yes, sending the alien (or and android) towards a bunch of humans is lots of fun :woot:

I did have a glitch early in the game where the alien was supposed to take down a group of people, just after Axle got killed by it. I entered the area, heard some shooting and ran to see it. They were all just standing there, the alien was in the corner of the screen, they saw me and started shooting at me. I reloaded and was a bit slower this time and he killed them all right off the bat. :p Apparently he's shy if you miss your cue.

Haha! I ran into a group of people who were completely frozen. I could hear them talking but they did not move and they did not even notice me standing right in front of them.

Now that I'm used to the gameplay I could do the first few levels much smoother. When I replay it on a lower difficulty it's going to be so easy. I heard that the AI takes a nosedive if you drop it from hard.

That alien though, you'd swear I had him on a leash or something because he's never more than 20 feet from me. I'm starting to feel a bit lonely if I don't see he every now and then. Ignoring the bit where it tries to murder you, it's almost like a cat. It just wanders about, exploring and looking for stuff to get into.

Yeah once I get around to a replay I am sure I will make it shorter by many hours now that I am used to how things work.

So my game is glitching the **** out now. The trams don't load, I can see stars through the floor, I was supposed to get a code from someone and they just freeze in place and the alien hasn't shown up for more than a few seconds in the last hour or two. The last one isn't bad but it does mean I can just wander around to my hearts content.

So I beat the game. Got Hard mode done, no human kills. Hell of a game despite the glitches. They were just getting weird by the end. My save card was replaced by the revolver so I shoved a gun in there to save. Ripley can apparently fly (random stairs missing in space letting her walk on nothing) and see through objects so I assume that she's related to Superman.

Just have 7 ach to go. I need to beat it without dying, get the ID tags, Nostromo logs, kill people, not fight androids at the start, not die in reactor maintenance and die 100 times from the alien. Most of that will be done in an easy mode playthrough. :p

So you're gonna get 1000 on this?

I might be getting it on Monday.

I love it enough I'm going to try. I wanted to get the most out of it when I started so I did hard mode and as a challenge I didn't want to kill anyone. Mind you I probably got 50+ people murdered by sending androids and the alien their way. :D Buncha Jerks.

I found that supplies were more than plentiful though. People kept telling me to conserve everything I had no matter what. So I hoarded and snuck by everything I could barely using anything and by the last 25% of the game I was swimming in items. I was almost totally full up on every item to craft with, every craftable item was made with a spare just waiting to be made and I had ammo up the ying yang.

I am planning to use a walkthrough to get all the logs/IDs though. I'd hate to have skipped one and do it all again. Although this time I'mma murder whomever gets in my way.
