Alien R-rated series reportedly in development

Except that Prometheus actually made a quite a bit of money comparative to what the franchise usually turns out. Covenant underperformed, but wasn’t an outright bomb (critically or commercially), certainly not to the point where a major studio would kill a 40 year old film franchise that has the likes of Blomkamp, Weaver and even Cameron eager to return.

I’d look more to the Disney/Fox merger as to why the series is moving mediums. Disney is not going to spend 100 million plus on a high end horror franchise.

Last time I checked, they killed Alien 5 with Blomkamp and Weaver. It's pretty clear that Ridley Scott is the reason why.

It's also clear that Covenant pretty much ruined whatever film plans they had moving forward.

Alien Isolation is first person survival horror and often is more about hiding and running rather than attacking.

Good to now. Will check if it is on Steam. Never mind, it is available.

Scott ruined the franchise by turning it into the David the android obsession and ignoring the primary reason the franchise exists: The xenomorph itself. We only got as much of it as we did in Covenant because fans demanded to see the damned alien in an alien movie. After that underperformed and didn't do much that was it. Scott's David obsession killed off any more prequels.

At least with this animated series they can go bigger and further away from that mistake and do something else that might actually feature the titular creature.

You can’t have it both ways Vile. If Ridley asked them to not do the Blomkamp/Cameron idea for the sake of his films, they’re not going to abide by that if they have no intention to of doing said films. These people made movies after the likes of Alien Resurrection and the AVP duology, so they’re not gonna ****can their plans after one financial success and one underperformance. That’s not how movie studios work, look at the likes of Terminator that has three successive failures and still has another on the horizon.

It’s also worth noting...three tv series in development...one of them is being produced and possibly even directed by Ridley Scott. So instead of 2 hours to tell his next prequel idea, he’s potentially got 8. Can’t wait to read your review of that.
