Nobody really knows what the natural posture of the Aliens were. In the first two movies, the xenomorphs had human hosts, so they'd appear bipedal.thealiasman2000 said:3-I think you are mistaking The Aliens with The Thing.
The Aliens are naturally bipedal.
Well, of course Lucas' was gonna said that. He created that abomination.blind_fury said:Well George Lucas likes Jar Jar so I guess that means creators sometimes can't relate to the fans. I still say a true fan of the original trilogy shouldn't like Jar Jar and a true fan of Predator shouldn't like AvP.
FOX doesnt want to spend a lot of money on this as they feel the two franchises are "past their prime" in the public's eyes. Why use this setting? Because they can make the movie for far less than the $60m that the first AVP cost. See AVP only made $80m at the box office in the US. Sounds good in theory, but the thing is that FOX spent $95m on marketing costs. So as far as they're concerned, theatrically AVP was a loss... of course, they made their money back on DVD and foreign grosses. But not enough to warrant spending a lot on an AVP2. They want a lower budget this time, to help ensure a faster profit.
Of course none of that justifies how bad this concept is to us... the fans. But thats why they are going in this direction.
I'm not saying Cameron really liked it or just being polite. He may not have created the franchise, but he was the one who actually bought the facts to the xenomorph race. Scott had a mysterious egg, the face hugger attack and an alien creature hiding in the shadows stalking. It was Cameron's film that brought in the concepts of pack hunting, close up detailed appearances and an Alien Queen. AVP's aliens are more reminiscent of Cameron's movie than Scott's!......Danger Mouse said:Unlike Lucas to JJB, Cameron owed no allegiance to Anderson's AvP. Heck, he didn't even create the franchise. If it was Scott who commented, I'm more inclined to agree with you and say "Of course he's gonna say he liked it. He created the damn franchise." But here is a prominent director, who neither created the franchise nor had any involvement in AvP, gave the movie quite the commendation.

I administrate a message board focusing on horror flicks and toy collecting. We have some "VIP" visitors there, including Jerry Macaluso, the president of SOTA Toys. Jerry obviously has dealt with a number of movie studios in making deals for toy licenses. He's also a low-budget filmmaker - his directorial debut will be premiering as a "Sci-Fi Original" this Fall.
So he's made some interesting friends in the film industry, and he's learned some interesting things. When he made his movie, he told all of us about the wringer that movies that premiere on Sci-Fi have to go through. Basically, anything that Lions Gate finances with a small budget is forced to go through the "Sci-Fi Original" mandates in order to help recoup the production costs, and the mandates from Sci-Fi are pretty ludicrous.
So what does this have to do with AVP2?
He knew about this direction for AVP2 before the script review hit the web. And he also had a little bit of insight into WHY they're doing this.
Interesting...

AvP is great fun but is absolutley shadowed and blackened by Alien and Aliens and Predator.

Seriously, we're damn lucky that movies like Alien, Aliens and Predator were as good as they are. Expecting sequels to live up to movies that are considered classics in the genre is like... well, it's like expecting someone to make a "Casablanca 2" that's every bit as good as the original. The odds are not in the favor of that happening, because when you're dealing with a damn-near-perfect classic, how near-impossible is it to reach that same level again?
Instead, I just hope for a good story and a good movie. I actually think AVP went above and beyond that, and was pretty damn great, but that's me. In truth, AVP really impressed me because of how good it was - it was the first truly "expansive" movie in the franchise since Aliens, in that it really broadened the mythology and opened up a whole new world of possibilities.
I also think people undersell how good Predator 2 was, but that's another story for another day.
