I have Faith In Greg and Colin

Ive talked to Colin through a couple of PMs on IMDB and he answered all my questions professionally and didn’t just do the "get back to the roots" blabble. I think they are trying to make a great film. They originally pitched an AVP film-taking place between Alien 3 and Resurrection and having marines on an isolated planet it sounded really badass sadly the studio went with Anderson instead. The admit that thanks to having to make the film take place on Earth wasn’t there idea but they do seem to be going back to the roots from what they said In the 2 PMs I got and there numerous post on both IMDB and Alien Experience.

Also the fact that they would go on websites like imdb and alien experience and try to get a feeling of what fans want makes me think that they themselves are fans. I can think of any other filmmakers who would answer my PM's.

As for where I stand on the films previous to Aliens vs. Predator:

*Alien (theatrical) 10/10
Alien (2003 cut) 9/10

Aliens (theatrical) 9/10
*Aliens (Extended cut) 10/10

*Alien 3 (theatrical) 8/10
Alien 3 (workprint) 7/10

Alien Resurrection (theatrical) 4/10
Alien Resurrection (Extended) 4/10

*Predator - 9/10

Predator 2 - 7/10

AVP (theatrical) 4/10
AVP (extended) 5/10

Ah yes. The Extended DVD extras gives some insight into this. Basically Fox never wanted to put the movie in space on an alien world, they thought it seemed too generic, and they thought that putting it in space station/ship would be too expensive (really? More expensive than an Antarctic pyramid?!). And Anderson knew this and came up with his alternate pitch to shake things up. I'm fascinated by their refusal to do the classic comic/video game setting...

(Continuing from my above post about Aliens and Alien 3)

..And to bring the predator back into discussion.

I have always liked that Predator 2 wasn't the generic sequel. It wasn't "here is Dutch back in the jungle taking on the Predators again" or "Dutch is being hunted by the predators brother from the first movie"

No instead the filmmakers took a risk, completely changed the setting and the human characters. They also brought more depth to the Predators with the end scene on the ship. The movie took a risk like Alien 3 and it worked.

Predator 2 isn't that great of a movie but at least it attempted to be fresh.
Predator 2 is a definate under rated classic, imo.

UPDATE: Trading cards for the Aliens Vs Predator stand at Comic Con on July 27. Theres a strong chance that this may be the final movie logo and feature on all promotional material. A new tagline too? Either way I really like this logo and hope it sticks. It wouldnt surprise me...

"Winner takes all"...I hope this movie is what the tagline is talking about.

My own movie rating would be...

Alien (2003 cut): 9/10
Aliens (Extended Cut): 10/10
Alien 3: 6/10
Alien Resurrection: 5/10 (I don't go lower than 5)

Predator: 9/10
Predator 2: 7/10

AVP: 5/10

Overall, the material hasn't risen in my estimation from its roots very far in terms of quality.

"winner takes all" - I guess thats a pretty cool tagline

logo is nice, way better than AVP, it looks more classic or back-to-the-roots if you will.

Seconded, but it does look kinda bland...I dunno, just feels that way.

Why dont you go lower than 5? Does that mean you gave catwoman 5 and Twister 5.

Theres a new Directv commerical which has Ripley Battleing the Alien Queen while talking About Directv. Be on the lookout for it, its kind of cool.

To me it's like the educational system's grading: 100% means the material was so great it revolutionized the standard or came close to, 90% means some elements were in it to stop it short of a 100% grading, 80% means that it's a good but not nearly as above the rest as it could have been, 70% is average and/ or disappointing material, 60% is just a slim shot above the worst possible due to a redeeming element, and 50% is where bad movies go.

I do, however, make exceptions for the worst of the worst. There are some really horrible movies out there that sometimes deserve a 0% approval so as to warn other human beings to stay far, far away.

Selling out has never been so fun to watch

I don't think it's selling out. I was laughing pretty hard when I saw this commercial the first time.

what versions of the movies do you get in the Alien Quadrilogy set? i was thinking of buying it, but it appears that certain versions of each movie are better then the others, and i'd want to make sure i get the best ones. also how come most people find the theatrical cut of Alien better then the directors cut? almost always directors cuts are better then the theatrical.

Every version, theatrical and directors cuts of all 4.

Well, for the most part they're just called "Special Editions" or "Extended Cuts" because many of them aren't really director's cuts... but yes. :) All!

I don't see this movie making as much as the first because the first turned alot of people away.

Edit: I thought the first was a blockbuster smash, just looked up the numbers, it didn't do great anyway lol
