we will see

Colin Strause already confirmed on the AVP Galaxy forums that the closeup pic is fake. The only real one is of the Wolf with the blooding on his hunting mask with the orange filter obscuring it, as far as it is between the two pics that came in tandem.

We had a full script review back in '06, we have a couple of photos from the film, full cast list with character names, directors, writers, approximate budget, details on setting... and it's still six months away... I think we're doing quite well...

4 months away

not really, but it is kind of pathetic considering movies coming out between 6 months and over a year from now have teasers or even trailers out already. and a movie thats 4 months away doesn't even have a teaser site yet.

Don't forget this one, which was taken from the cover of the new ADI book on the AVP2 creature effects shortly before they freaked out and censored the cover image...

4 months away

More like 5, really. This is the very start of August, it comes out at the very end of December.

They're trying to avoid overhyping it because it's not like this is a big budget release...

After listening to the behind-the-scenes as to why Alien 3 felt so rushed to production and why Alien Resurrection was so bad, I'm not entirely sure FOX even cares about this franchise anymore. The same issue they had in Alien 3 is haunting them 3 sequels later- they greenlighted a shaky script and now expect a miracle film to be made on a lower budget and an impending release date.

I wonder...how does Rothman remain friends with half of the people that he does when this is all said and done? I'd most likely give him one in the nose if I were ever put through half of the stuff he does.

When you watch the extensive documentary on Alien Resurrection on the DVD, nobody involved is really unhappy with it. They took a lot of time on the script for that movie, and they took over a decade developing the first AVP. It's not that they're rushing shaky scripts - it's that their definition of a good script isn't the same as what many viewers feel.

Of course, Alien 3 was unique in that it was greenlit WITHOUT a complete script... I think that's really the dumbest thing about that production.

AVP was indeed developed for ten years buuuut all those scripts fell by the way side, and shortly after news of freddy vs. jason broke fox pushed for AVP again, Anderson, or to us he shall be reffered to as he who has no name (much like shumacher in the bat-forum), heard of this met with the producers and since hiring him as a writer/director would be faster than hiring individual writes or directors, they did just that. Throwing whatever they could at the project and trying to push it out there to "cash-in" after FVJ hit. And to further ensure a wider audience they and Anderson agreed to make the film PG-13.

Lets all just understand the fact that money is what makes Fox go round.

I'm pretty sure this particular story has never been said anywhere before. In fact, Anderson has said many times that he aimed for no particular rating and was not forced into anything, but when they only needed one word less to get the PG-13, they went for it.

Nope every word is true. I remember reading an interveiw with him in Fangoria magazine when AvP was in production and he was saying he was making an R rated film and how much a fa nhe was of the first Alien and pedator films and how like those, you weren't going to see them show up for 45 mins.

Unfortanatly Anderson is a liar.

Same principle holds true on the RESIDENT EVIL series.

Yeah apperently Anderson likes to talk alot of B.S. like the supposed Event Horizon d.c.

Though I have to say I did like the first Resident Evil and Mortal Kombat flicks.

Well they didn't show up for 35-40 minutes. Geez, I don't think the 5 minutes makes him a huge liar. And you know, at Comic-Con 2004, the producers said that they ASSUMED it would get an R at that point as well. Although they hadn't received a rating yet. Like I said, they only removed one F-bomb to get the PG-13. He basically made a movie along the lines of Aliens in terms of its violence content, and I have little doubt that Aliens, if produced TODAY, could get a PG-13 if it lost the effs. It's just... not very bloody at all, a fact that kinda shocked me when I started to pay attention. Three scenes of blood, one of which is a bruise on a forehead, one of which is spattered on a window from off-screen, and one of which is a severely toned-down chestburster compared to the original.

I don't think he's ever lied, personally, but I believe that hardcore haters will always find reason to hate him, even if it has to be made up. But every story I've read indicates that, regardless of how you feel about his FILMS, he's a nice guy. Unlike Uwe Boll, who makes lousy films AND is a total uppity dick to people.

Also: The rumors of the supposed "Event Horizons Director's Cut" came from AICN. I'm not sure if they were ever true or not. Who knows, I guess they still could be... I haven't listened to the commentary on the newest DVD, though, to see if he denies (or confirms?) them. I really didn't like that movie enough to revisit it. Meh.

Anderson is notoriuos for going on record and claiming that there is a d.c. of event horizon and even went around promoting a bloodier d.c. of AvP (not the extended cut so don't get confused) that "the fans would love" but shortly after a producer came out and said that in fact there WAS NOT nor EVER was a d.c. of event horizon and that AvP really had no other footage other than what was shown in theaters.

Some one can still come off sounding like a great guy but still be a lying *****bag. It is hollywood after all lol.

Also it is a big difference between showing them in 5 mins as opposed to 40. If you saw either creature in the first 5 mins of alien/aliens or predator the films wouldn't have been as good. The whole point of not showing them was to build it all up in your mind.

Okay, I KNOW that the AVP thing is a lie. It was propogated by a poster on IMDB who sent the information in to Dark Horizons, and they ran it. He said that he went to a screening of the movie where Anderson talked about all the stuff Fox cut out of the movie, explanations for why the reproduction was so fast, etc.

The thing is, the SCREENING NEVER HAPPENED. He never said any of that. It was all something made up by the IMDB poster, who ultimately confessed that he B.S'ed the whole thing. Anderson never actually claimed anything about a longer cut of AVP. Sadly, that guy's scam is still running around the Internet. I hate the IMDB boards.

I said that the creatures didn't show up for 40 minutes instead of 45. Those 5 minutes don't make a difference. No creatures show up in the first 5 minutes of AVP.

supposedly fox is trying to do "what 300 did, and not show anything until a few months before, trailer in october, site in september" in other words everyone (fox, straus') is full of $^*t. Ah well.

youre quoting a fan, not the directors or Fox. The directors have no control over marketing.....there is a few tidbits I could update with, but honestly....I think it's better just to wait for the trailer....it's going to be online pretty soon...and the website too.

Every time this thread gets bumped i keep thinking the trailer has arrived:csad:

Why don't we even have a TDK style teaser by now?

Same exact feeling. It's not a good feeling to open this thread and let the disappointment at its absence set in.

Why don't we even have a TDK style teaser by now?

Murder would be the only option if they did that this close to the release date.

There's only some stills of the Predator weapon and the Alien maquette to go by, and on both occasions they haven't had warm reception. If it weren't for the two leaked Predator pics and the leaked Alien design we'd really have absolutely nothing but a production still of a really weak Alien design. I really have no clue why FOX is even making this film if the film is admitted to still be incomplete and the hype machine is practically as cold as it can get. Their build-up for this film is becoming way more focused on the trailer than it should be this close to December.

Indeed ^^^ I doubt outside the net anyone even knows it is coming and the release date is gonna sink it anyway, it's like Fox have already written it off.

It does seem that way- but I've heard rumours to the exact opposite effect. One fan apparently spoke to an employee of Hydraulx who said that Fox think this is the best movie they've had all year. Whilst that's just a fan source it's been confirmed by Colin Strause that Fox are happy with the film and have given them more money to add new scenes.....*or finish it off depending on whats really going on ;)*

"Both Greg and Colin spoke today about the status of the AvP2 trailer. Greg said on IMDB that they're still sorting out which trailer to use. Colin said here that they will see some new trailers tomorrow. Fox have been testing out different versions and there are two cuts which a lot of people like. They're currently finishing the film off (and adding some new stuff to the movie) so that's their priority.

Greg said that his estimate (of a week or so after Comic-Con) was a little optimistic but they'll be letting everybody know what's happening. I reckon it'll be the middle of next week when we see it. Also, Colin revealed today that there will be two trailers. A green-band one and a red-band one. At the end of the green-band it'll tell you the name of the website where you can watch the red-band version apparently."

If there's one plus to the directors, it's that they're establishing a bond with the fanbase Anderson alienated. I doubt many other directors would go out of their way to make two trailers, with one being an unrated all-out version, just for the fanbase.
