UPDATE: not really news as such, but I thought this was cool - any fans would know that the preds had nicknames to distinguish them from one another in the first movie (e.g Celtic, Chopper, Scar...)

well, in AvP2, the nickname given to the predator isnt to do with his appearance, but his mission. the predator in avp2 is called

'The Wolf'

because he has to clean up the mess that the incompetent clan from the first made (its a reference to Mr Wolf from Pulp Fiction)

I thought that was quite cool, nothing major, but still quite geeky.

I thought the names were to distinguish b/w their ranks or something?

the queen looks pretty standard. i'm actually a lil' disappointed because it looks too neat and clean. as for the predator mask...i'm indifferent. it looks "cool" but i'm not really liking the writing on the forehead or the spikes on the side. they managed to make predator 2's mask look different form predator 1's mask without having to add extra things to it...i was hoping for a similar change. i guess it'll still be cool to look at on screen...

The mask is nifty. I mean, I can see why people wouldn't like it, but it works for me.

The horns seem a wee bit out of place, I guess.

I personally love the mask. Ill always think of the mask of the original movie as the best one (was never keen on the P2 mask) but I think this mask does what P2 set out to do, only better. I love that this pred has **** loads of markings...thats alot of alien hunts.

It was announced a while back that FOX was pulling out of Comic-Con this year. Sucks for the people who already paid for the trip, I suppose.

Anyways, I really like the mask. It's much more detailed than I imagined it would be. You can tell they're trying to make a really hardened hunter for this film. If his nickname is really The Wolf it makes it even moreso awesome. It's about time someone came and tried to clear up the mess that was the last film.

Now all we need is that R-rated trailer.

Ugh...I'm not feeling the shuriken. Bad Anderson-induced memories come up of how underused it was in the first film. Hopefully we'll see some redemption when The Wolf realizes long-range is much more efficient than trying to confront dozens of Aliens head-on.

I can still hear the vacuum of that movie sucking to this day...I'm not trying to get overly hyped, but AVP was about as low as this franchise has gotten. I don't want a repeat, though looking at FF it would seem that FOX is just fine with getting low-quality films made and worry about the details in a sequel.

She was in an multiple emmy award winning show, that is reknown for having great caliber actors on it, and she held her own among the best. She's more that talented enough. I'm actually suprised she took the role. Being in a movie like this could be career suicide, especially if it's anything like AVP1.

Merchandise Some new profile pages of the AvP2 props have been added to Sideshow Toys; Shoulder Cannon, Mask and Shuriken. There's new high-res pictures as well as other interesting details. Here's the main bits:

Cannon: "The Predators' plasma cannon, sometimes called the Plasma Caster, automatically locks on any target. It emits a pulse of energy that can easily burn through any target of metal, wood, or flesh. The Plasma Caster's technology is advanced far beyond the weapons of any human or alien target. In Aliens VS Predator, the plasma cannon is adapted as a hand-held weapon, ready for quick and dirty work."

Mask: "During a hunt, the Predators wear a technologically advanced mask that offers protection and adds to their sensory abilities. The mask is equipped with multiple vision modes, including night vision and thermal vision. Fellow warriors appear white while targets appear red or green. Predators can use the mask as a targeting device, zooming in on their prey for precise kills at long range. Protecting the Predators, the mask acts as a pollution filter and shields their flesh from the acidic blood of the Xenomorph aliens, and the weapons of interfering humans."

Wasn't there something in the AICN review that said one of the humans picks up the shoulder cannon and uses it to kill aliens? undecided And the bit about the mask mentions that targets appear in red or green. Assuming, green is aliens still and red is humans? Hoping, that means the blue thermal vision and not the red one seen in AvP. Thanks to Prey-seeker for the news.

Update: Colin has posted several times in the comments. There is no night vision and the thermal vision mode does match the original films. The cannon does go hand-held but it's a last resort thing.

AvP2 Movie News Well, Friday's been and gone. There was no AvP2 trailer or anything. I guess Fox and Comic-Con couldn't work it out in the end. Anyway, at least we'll all get to see the trailer at the same time now instead of reading rough descriptions about it. I thought I'd post a few interesting points that Colin has posted in the forum this week.

* Firstly, they called the predator in AvP2, "The Wolf" throughout production. This is a reference to the Cleaner in Pulp Fiction, apparently. I've never seen that movie so I wouldn't know.
* This Predator comes to Earth on a mission hence he's not a member of the group of Predators seen in AvP. Most likely, he comes to Earth to clean up the mess that was left behind.
* There's no teenagers that can kill aliens in AvP2.
* The online trailer will be R-Rated and will be very intense, very gory.
* Return of the Medi-Kit or at least some form of healing device.
* As we saw from the props pictures, the Shuriken will be seen but there will be no Disc weapon as seen in P2.
* As seen on the mask, there's lots of markings. This means, the Predator has killed lots of aliens or other dangerous creatures. This confirms the Predator is more experienced than those seen in AvP.

Disappointed about the Shuriken and blooding thing. The Predators in P1/P2 never had the markings and they were both very experienced.
