Alpha Protocol

wow you got you self deal . it went to 20 $ faster then Expected. no wait if I had waited like you did and saw the reviews I'd have not bought it. and I only did a review cause the video game site's show i hang out at was doing the other systems this game was coming out for. so i had to do in case some thought it's was different there. it slightly is but still has issues. but I'd have keapt away from this until the bugs were ether fixed or not touched it at all.

When you think about it though that's really sad too.

Well enjoy the game. and the best and smartest spies always get info out of every one after they'd defeated them. Not just Execute cause they feel like it. you'll get far with this advice here and turn the tables.

yeah enjoy the game.

I maintain this is still a really fun game. A sequel would need fine tuning, but I enjoyed it.

The gameplay mechanic is hopelessly broken--cover is clumsy (and sometimes doesn't even work), weapon handling is miserable, stealth is crude, and the camera is junk. On the other hand, the element of choice and ability to manipulate (or turn to your cause) virtually every character you encounter makes the game fairly intriguing and pretty intricate. Superior scripting in plotting would have been a big plus, because the story is a mess and the dialogue can be fairly awful, but it's still neat to navigate the conspiracy with all the intel you can gather and the way it affects your options. I wrote a full review here if anyone's on the fence about getting this one.

As others have suggested, a sequel with across-the-board revisions and a ground-up redesign could make for a good game.

Actually, it dropped to $40. I used a $20 off coupon, along with SAVER, to get the game at $20 + tax, with free shipping. I read some of the reviews, and what was decribed sounded alot like Mass Effect 1...set in an espionage world. The only thing that scared me was the talk of glitches galore.

I've sunk 11 hours into it so far, and luckily have encountered 0 bugs/glitches.

Yeah, I agree. It's sad that the talk of glitches and it being a broken game overshadows the game itself. The base of the critique I've heard is that it's buggy and glitchy dispite the delays. I haven't run into any myself, yet, but it's true that a game with so many delays ought to be polished.

I am really, really, really enjoying the game. I'm a huge espionage fan, and love RPG's...so this game is hitting the mark with me. There's some interesting stuff with the dialouge system they've got. Making convos into a timed decision is interesting, and does actually make you second guess yourself even more than other games where you can wait and think about it.

And, I'm almost certain that Mass Effect 3 will swipe (and nicely so) the email response choices in this game. I say that only because ME2 had emails we'd get to read, but never respond to.

I keep bringing it up, but I think it's an apt match. This game reminds me alot of Mass Effect 1. The cover system is better, and the shooting is more responsive, but it's a good RPG with a subpar shooting system. But, building up my Ninja-Spy has been fun. Stealth is rather cartoony, in an oldschool stealth game way. I don't know if it's that it's an RPG or just the setting, but I'm able to forgive the dumb AI because it's not an action-shooter or stealth-action.

The story is interesting, I'm digging the political undertones, and the concept of Alpha Protocol is interesting as well. The characters are all interesting so far, too. Being able to form your character into a James Bond-like spy by always being a smart ass is fun, or being nutcase ala Jack Bauer by always being aggressive, or Jason Bourne-like with cold professionalism. The backstory when starting your spy is also interesting, in that RPG-sort of way of how one can role-play with a game.

I don't think it's a $60.00 game...but I think at the price it's at now, $40.00 it is worth the price tag. If your copy isn't as buggy, or glitchy as claimed...then I can't see why any RPG buff with an interest in spy flicks can't enjoy this game. It was a steal at $20.00 brand new, really.

I think a 6 is too low a score, as I've seen it scored mostly. It's not a 10, but I'm hovering around an 8-ish right now.

I hope it gets one. I think there's some interesting ideas, and some nice creativity with the world of espionage. If they could strip down and rebuild the shooting mechanics and update the stealth-play, it could make a huge change. I think what's there is fun, and interesting.

hmmm you must have missed the post I made before that one you just quoted, where I stated I ran in to other problems besides just game play. where I mentioned the president sung event among others there also this annoying glitch that came where I was hacking the safe in the final stages of the game where i had to turn Alan Parker. that came in to play in the review cause it lasted 2 hour to to get past cause the that glitch kept on ruining me lock picking the damn thing. and I only had on EMP grenade and no matter how close it was it would sort the damn safe lock out. it keeps freezing image wise and time would run out. and plus every review has to factor in the price at when it was bought.

I'll put this way. Raju of reviews on the Run game this game a 4. I gave it 6.5 cause of he bugs they weren't as bad on the pc as they are on the console but they gave enough trouble. Especially deleting what I save like be buying the Advanced stealth armor and turning in for the night to only wake the next day and have to buy it all over again. plus bugs that made me sit there for longer then I'd like too lock picking. and the added cost of 60$ so mine was valid. BTW Steve of Electric play ground ran in more trouble but he still managed to give it a 7. you can tell both Steve and me still liked what was there but as I said if they make a sequel they should finish the work they started with better controls. I was one of the first here to actually say that. but i also went on further that they should work for a better developer(suggested merged with bioware)since Sega didn't care enough as they showed and did with the iron man 2 game (which failed cause of that)and maybe change the leader ship since the people working on this game didn't like the head of this project which adds to the problem of the game tanking here.

but other then there there were some parts that were enjoyable but those things over shadowed the game for me. So I have to stick with my rating. I liked it way more then those that made sure to give the lowest scores possible like 4 and lower. but you don't relest unfinished games. especially at the price of 60$ or more. sorry I'm sticking with that rating. If it was at the price you bought at time. well i'm sure people still wont like that fact it wasn't finished but it might not be dumped on as harshly I suppose. but you never know.

BTw it was just stated last night on the electric play ground that sega has stated that they have dropped all their plans for a sequel to Alpha protocol due tp poor sales. So obsid better do what I suggested if they want to make up for this mess their in on this. and work for a better developer bio ware( as I suggested).
