Am I alone in not being excited for S9?

I'm sure this will be closed but, oh well...

What I mean is that is that...it just does not feel like the writers know what to do anymore. I feel like I've read the "spoilers" for season nine a million times for other episodes/seasons. They're about to destroy the hell out of the character we know as Zod and each season feels more and more like Clark is the side plot.

I've watched this show since the beginning but I've never legitimately felt like I didn't care if I missed the next season...well, until now at least.

Really? because 70% of this season was about Clark joining the Daily Planet, and saving people.

I have hopes that this season will start out well. The problem I have is with lack of consistency. The first 11 or so episodes of season 8 was fantastic, but it slowly went downhill from there. If season 9 can keep the same pace as the first 11 episodes of season 8, then I will be happy.

Crap, I meant to say something about that. That's why S8 felt so refreshing. An extreme improvement on Clark becoming Superman. But eventually, like season 5 for example, the quality fell after about midway through and the Lana story didn't help one bit. I admit S8 was great and it really reignited my interest in SV. But these new spoilers for S9 are just ruining that spark again.

\yea i dont see much to worry about right onw, we have no solid news right now how metallo let alone zod will be like. As for the mason bio for zod that likely as others have said was just used to test actors and isnt what the character will be. As for the feel of the show i do hope they try and take what was good about the first 12 or so episodes and try and keep that quality going and all that.

I second this.
If they can go into this with the enthusiasm they had at the beginning of season 8, I see it looking good.

Jeez, I was actually starting to look forward to this season (I even updated my review spreadsheet with the titles of the first two eps). That is before I read this thread.

:(

yea we shouldnt be downers untill we know more on how zod, metallo, let alone any other dc/superman villains that could be poping up this season.

Optimistically excited I'd say, I'm quite excited to see the premiere after I see that I think it will set the tone how the first 5 - 10 episodes will be..

If its the last season I think the last 4 or 5 episodes will be a strong finish

I have some reservations, especially after the second half of Season 8. That being said I will be more worried if I hear they are renewed for Season 10 then I am for the beginning of Season 9.

you know, I became a bit cynical about this show last month but I started to come in here less and less and I am slowly getting my optimism back. this place will suck you dry and leave you with negativity. :csad:

I have hope as well.... just really cautious, thats all......

Yeah, I can see that.

I think avoiding the spoiler threads, more than just not getting spoiled, has helped me stay more positive about the show because I'm also not getting exposed to all the negative commentary that's usually in those.

Overall Season 8 was fantastic IMO. But here and there they screwed up. (Like Srilleto, killing off most of the injustice league, not hearing anything about the Injustice league until the second last episode, the anti climactic ending to Doomsday) They need to set a season long plot and then like one or two subplots that run for atleast 3 or 4 episodes each. Everytime they go "HEY!!!! Wouldn't it be cool if *enter name here* became a vigilante?" we reply with "No." or *Facepalm* cause the truth is we don't care for those. The Doomsday and Red-Blue-Blur build up of Season 8 was great, the end and not hinting to the Injustice league throughout the season was a bad move. The Veritas arc in Season 7 was fantastic but again, not very well drawn out as it was only the last 6 or 7 episodes and even then, the ending was terrible. Season 6 is one to learn from! It had one main plot: The Zoners. A bit further on, the whole 33.1 Vs Justice League aspect was introduced and the two arcs were tied in at the end. Then there were the mini arcs that were of romance, yet even season six had some really stupid episodes like Subterranean, Hydro and Noir. I'll be posting my formula to a perfect season shortly.

Fixed.

I just started watching Smallville on a serious basis this season did not get into it the first 7 seasons and i have to say this season showed me why i should/should not watch SV. The first 11 showed why i should but after that showed me why i should not especially the season finale.

That Clark/Doomsday fight was wack! And after all season leading up to that one big epic fight it lasted for a second. Lois/Tess fight was better then Clark/Doomsday fight. Hopefully season 9 we have Clark turn into Superman.

The finale was just awful. It was a good season overall, better than season eight actually. The Lana-kryptonite storyline was the most ******ed idea the series has adopted so far, and the lord knows why the creators chose it. An upside to it however is that we can expect that Lana will never show up again... or can we?

I think there should be some excitement going into this season. We know that with both Zod and Metallo appearing that there should be pretty decent action scenes. Even though on a small screen scale. From what the producers have said, things are going to start lining up with comic book mythology and there is great possibility we may actually see Welling in the suit. And who knows what's going to come about with the rumored "Metropolis" So I think there is quite a bit to be excited about.

Kristin Kreuk is done with Smallville. I think even she was fed up with Lana.

Woah, woah, woah...Trip and Mike, I really didn't mean to try and bring you down on this season, but I'm sure that's what it looks like. Every season I'm usually optimistic, hell, I can't begin to tell you how pumped I get when there's just a few weeks till the premier. It's just...I guess, in my opinion, that it feels like they're truly starting to run out of ideas. I do believe that we'll see some cool Metallo/Zod/Clark fights (assuming they don't just throw each other around) but we all know that can't be in every episode due to budget constraints. Also, I don't know if I can handle any more side plots about Ollie drinking :csad:

I wasn't talking about you specifically, but I have noticed the overall attitude on these boards have become negative. It doesn't help especially when this entire forum is basically against the show and now this board is becoming more cynical. That's why a lot of the old timers have left and only come back every once in a while when an episode airs. I, myself, have been thinking about taking a time-out from the episode threads.

Well, I have to saw I have mixed feelings, I feel like after "Doomsday", Smallville's in another rut. While I liked Season 8 a lot, I felt the way it ended was one of the poorest conclusions to a storyline Smallville ever did. From Davis to Doomsday to the Red Blue Blur, it was all sloppy, rushed and written without much care! Season 9 has great sounding plots: Zod, Metallo, Clark's "new approach" to being a hero etc. But with these showrunners, these storylines could easily become lackluster when they could be some of Smallville's best. I just feel that in the end, Season 8 taught us while the writer could develop a decent, even good storylines, they can't conclude them as well as they began.

I disagree with a lot of this. I thought the Red Blue Blur was handled quite well, and dispite the terrible conclusion, I loved 90% of davis/doomsday.

It's funny, I just rewatched Combat the other day. Man, if the Doomsday fight would have been on the same level as the fight with Titan, I would have loved it.

Is Super Girl gonna be in this season of SV? Also will Lois know CLark secret all season or will her mind get wipped out? Also its not a secret anymore since all of CLakr's friends even the cop guy know what his power is.
