Okay so I just started reading this book this week after hearing quite a lot of buzz about it. Personally, I think it's a great book and I will continue reading with it.

But is it weird for a teenage guy to like this title? It sort of seems like a girly title and is definitely marketed that way. But I think it really portrays high school well and is a great read for anybody.

Weird?

No, you're not weird.

Reading comics promotes a lot of self-worth, and when you get older, you might pass on the mantle to your kids.

Heck, I wouldn't think you were weird if you just read Archie books.

And a LOT of Spider-Fans on this board appear to really enjoy this particular comic, so you're not the only one.

Keep on reading... :word:  :word:

:yay:

Personally I would say you are weird for liking a girly comic.

….

Heh heh, just kidding.

Being a teenager and into Spider-Man loves MJ isn't bad at all. Now if you were a 55 year old man who was very into Spider-Man loves MJ...it would be a little weird. :oldrazz:

Nah, not weird. Personally I don't read it because it generally doesn't fit in with the continuity of 616 Spidey, but hey whatever floats your boat.

The MJ comics are actually quite good, so not at all. Now if this was a Claremont X-title....

Okay good. I don't feel so, um, odd for enjoying it. It sorta feels like a cross between Ultimate Spider-Man and the old Amazing Spider-Man of the 70s. That is one great combination.

My husband and I both love this title, and judging from the letters it's not at all unusual for guys to like this comic. It's indeed a whole lot of fun. The most issue had me laughing out loud at the part where Gwen describes the Spidey/Sandman fight she witnessed. :)

I might have to start reading this title simply because of these scans I found

Yup. This really is the strongest Spidey book on the market.

Okay, let me clear somethin' up: those pages are from SMLMJ #13. Gwen Stacy is feelin' dejected 'cause every time she's out with Peter he "remembers" somethin' and ditches her, aka hasta turn into Spidey. The segment you just read was her on the phone with MJ tellin' her about the Spidey/Sandman fight that just happened, supplying her own dialogue. Imagine a teenaged girl tellin' a story and that's what it emulates. In context it's funny as hell.

And I'm older than you, JJ, and a guy, and I love this book. And to the mook who said they don't read it 'cause it ain't 616, so what? Can't make room fer alternate universe titles? It's a good book TO read 'cause you ain't got a crap load of recent shoe-horned continuity to worry about.

It's a fun light read, and can be enjoyed by all. If you ain't readin', yer losin'. Simple as that.

Weird?

You may read whichever book you wish to read. If you enjoy it, that's all that counts.

;)

22 year old male here.

I subscribe to it...

If you're weird, then I'm weirder ;)

It's bizarre but definitely funny. Right on par with this:

Glad you cleared that up. That excerpt posted above is not really the writing style or even the regular artist on the title. But it was a funny interlude as Gwen described that scene to MJ.

This book has been my favorite read of the month pretty much since the Civil War started... In fact, I've been so pleased with it I wrote a letter (a first for me) and it actually got published! (Issue #11). Kinda cool.

From the letters page in the comic, you are not alone... Many guys seem to like this title. What's not to like? Yeah, it's a slightly new spin on continuity (like someone said, a cross between Ultmate and 616 Spidey) but it's well written and has that special something that a good "Spidey" story should have... only without so much focus on fights... and it's mostly seen through the eyes of a young MJ.

There was another thread started with more comments on the title:

If you want to jump into this title I recommend getting the paperbacks, starting with "Mary Jane," which was the old title that "Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane" continued...

Of course not.

You are weird for liking comics at all.

Glad I could clear that up for ya.

Lmfao your totally not crazy for reading something like that. Its pretty funny to see spider-man from a valley girl point of view.

Ok... all you SMLMJ fans... was not last week's issue (#14) great!? I read it last night and REALLY enjoyed it.

I bet I know what the secret Peter told Gwen was...
That he has been working as a photographer for the Bugle. Wasn't that how he always classicly covered his many sudden disapperances?
But you don't know for sure, and it obviously has him rattled that people know he has a secret.

I FELT the interlude in which MJ watched Spidey get taken down by the Lightmaster... I couldn't tell what happened... did the LM take off his mask? Even though no one may have seen who he was, I think once again MJ may be identifying with Spider-Man...

The last two pages had me confused at first, but he looked intense and a little mad (a good look on our meek little Peter...) when he went off to talk to MJ.

Funny, SMLMJ was the only Spidey title I read last month that made me ANXIOUS to find out what happens next... :)
