I picked this up when it came out in the 90's, and on the back, in place of the barcode there's a print-run number on back and mine's "1 of 10,000".

So what's it worth? Does this make it super-rare, or were all of the white editions printed as 'number one' to bait the speculator market? 'Cause I couldn't believe someone with my luck would just happen to nab the very first one.

Hey I can't see the pic, can you post it again?

No, I had a pic, but I guess SF.org got a bit antsay over the direct linking. :P

So folks. I know what the white edition is worth, but my run-number printed on the back is "1 of 10,000" - is that special, or not?

i think it means that it's one of 10,000
not NUMBER 1

Please elaborate sir.

So you're saying EVERY copy of the white edition says "1 of 10,000"?

If so, I'm cool with that. Point of this thread was, to hopefully help me set things straight.

I've never seen a picture of this, put one on please.

If you mean the front, here's all I could scrounge up:

You can't see the image/text properly as it's embossed on full white, as opposed to the tombstone-grey that brought out the image on the standard edition.

Not sure if having "1" of 10,000 is special, i'll leave that to someone else (I sold all my special editions... I think)
But having a comic in a run of 10,000 generally isn't too special, hence only worth $28. You really want something that's 1 of 500 or less.

The "White" Cover all have the "1 of 10,000" statement. I have sold a couple of them, with a ceiling of abot $45. Lots of copies are somewhat dirty (soiled) for some reason, as it seems that the bright white cover displays dust, dirt, or grime very well,

Hey there guys, thanks for clearing this up for me. Now that I know the truth, the edition isn't any less valuable... to me.

It's a very good issue

But y'know what? It's not worth that much really. In fact itsa piece of crap... Give you a fiver for it ;)

I even bought the newstand edition, which was just the normal #400 with the tombstone gatefold missing. :P Ah, memories.

ill check my copy when i get home, i think mine states, 1 of 10000 as well.... no real way to know, but ill let you know when i get home
