Comics Amazing Spider-Man #570 NWTD pt3

Interesting power that Anti-Venom has there. I'm not sure that [blackout]his "purification" ability would remove the elements in Peter's blood that give Spidey his powers[/blackout], but that seems to be the direction things were going in the cliffhanger.

:hehe:

4 days to go...

Hang in there, True Believers!

Dan, completely off-topic, but do you hav eany plans to do some creator-owned stuff, someday? Maybe throught Image ot Marvel's own Icon imprint? I think it's be pretty awesome to see you make up your own characters/universe!

Hey Dan,
After reading the letters page after this issue i saw that someone made a suggestion about Peter being able to stick to walls with his shoes on and how that could possibly work. I believe they suggested the idea that Peter stuck webbing to his shoes thus allowing him to stick to the wall. However im not quite sure that could work. Yes, adding webbing to his shoes would allow him to stick to the wall however i dont think the would allow for much mobility, if any, seeing as the webbing would cause the shoes to just stay stuck to the wall like most other things. Not really nitpicking or complaining just an observation i made and thought i'd voice. Keep up the good work. I am thoroughly enjoying NWTD.

I really liked this issue. First it's great to see Eddie Brock kick some serious a** (and Gargan's it's even better). I liked both cliffhangers (A-V "cleaning" Spidey's blood and the one with Menace). Speaking about Menace, I think that's the first time since his introduction that I really enjoyed his appreance, maybe because the cliffhanger seems to indicate that he is somehow connected to Osborne and Bill Hollister (Harry ???) which gives him some dimension.

(P.S: what I didn't like is still that I just can't get used to the "eyes in the eye-patch" of Gargan and A-V lol)

My kid loved this one. I've never been a big Venom or symbiote fan except for the first appearance but the way to a 7 year old's heart, it seems is with 2 big symbiotes beating the hell out of each other. He's starting to really warm up to Menace, too whereas before he was sort of 'meh' on the character.

A lot of people have been telling me to read certain books that kids should like but a lot of them are pretty boring.

Andrew i had to quote this. Your kid is funny. His opinions on stuff are great. He is very knowledgeable and mature for his age. I am starting to get my nephew (aka my apprentice) into to comics and i love to hear him talk about what he liked and didnt like and such. Tell you son keep up the good work.

Thanks. He loves doing it. He loves reading comics, obviously. And he's enjoying having a chance to give his opinions about them and discovering that <shock> people are reading and commenting on them. He loves getting comments on the blog or in emails and takes recommendations seriously which is why he was a bit bitter about reading Tiny Titans. He picked up some other books people suggested would be good for him and really didn't like them. I'm glad Tiny Titans scored well or he would have turned into a cynic about being open minded real quick.

That's great man. I have to remeber to send some comments his way

Just got to read it.
The pace jumped back up and it really felt like a Spidey comic without the annoying BND reminders. :yay:

An interesting thing to note is that the whole "traces of Symbiote" in Spideys blood was done before in Ultimate. ;)

Anti Venom seems like a true and worthy direction for the character of Eddie Brock. He's not a bad guy when it bottles down to it...he's just really confused about what's right and what's wrong.

If your reading this....Awesome Job Dan. ;)

This issue was simply amazing! I lvoed how Mac Gargan Venom got the crap kicked out of him by Anti-Venom and basically the whole issue was enjoyable. Once again, Dan Slott and JRJR. thrill me with greatness. Bring on NWTD pt4. :word::up:

Ok, trying to be as fair as possible, despite detesting this reboot but reading my friends issues...

Art is the high point, since i am a big fan of JRJR.

However, it doesn't seem to be JRJR's best either...maybe he is a bit rushed witht he 3X schedule...or maybe it's the colorist...hmn, not sure, good stuff, but just not fully right either, on JRJR standards.

Story is ok. Not a fan of symbiote stories, or more of them.
Loved the orginal black costume issues after secret war, and the tpb detailing the early years of it. EVen liked Todd McFarlane's Venom. However, wasn't too fond of Carnage or any other symbiotes being dripped off the original fabric, etc, to be fair.

Still nothing that couldn't be told before, and am still waiting for the stories they all wanted to tell but couldn't before.

But again, prolly, the better of the issues i've read so far, but nothing so exciting that it is going to get me to buy it, or the tpb's, like i'v'e always have.

It's hard to enjoy anything of reasonable quality when you know that in about a year it could all be retconned away from the continuity. Granted, that's always a risk of some degree in comics, and I don't deny it, but it's also something that prevents me from really embracing any mainstream comics -- I don't give any comic a free pass on this issue.

I'm hoping it's really Carlie -- Harry as Menace just seems too obvious at this point.

ok I'm not being sarcastic, but what were the clues that makes you think it's Carlie. Everyone is puting her as one potential candidate and I have to say I don't understand why

I don't know about other folks but...I think she's got a creepiness about her. One of the past issues she was morbidly interested in a crime scene. And she seems like the only solid candidate that isn't Harry IMO. I don't think it's Lily -- I just don't get any creepy vibes from her. And Harry...Harry's only ever really gone after people that
a) are Spider-man or close to Spider-Man, or
b) attack him first.

A while back I posted why I think Menace is actually Carlie over on CBR, so along with the "creepiness" factor that Farren added, here's my rationale:

People cite that Menace is female due to his build. Menace utilizes Goblin equipment, so there's either a connection between Norman or Harry Osborn, closest bet being Harry. Also, Menace has a vested interest in the mayoral campaign, and it appears that almost all the attacks (his kidnapping the female mayoral candidate, his attacking the debate where Crowne looked like a coward while Hollister held his own, his "accidental" blowing up the sweatshop when targeting a truck with a Hollister campaign ad, etc.) benefit Bill Hollister, as he himself suggested to the unconscious Hollister. This makes folks believe that Lily is actually Menace because she's female, she's Harry Osborn's girlfriend, and her father is running for mayor at own her urging. However, those qualities apply to Carlie as well. She too is female, is associated with Harry via her friend Lily, and she's said that she regards the Hollister's like family, so wouldn't she like to see Mr. Hollister win as mayor, too?

Also, considering how Menace's gear is modified Green Goblin equipment, someone would have to have some scientific knowledge with how it works and operates. Carlie happens to have a scientific background. She could very well know enough to modify the equipment if Harry Osborn did not do so himself.

Likewise, Menace is not shy of killing others, as he did with the warehouse thugs, which would imply this is someone who is quite familiar with death. Since Carlie has been trained as a police officer, which she had to be in order to work for the NYPD, she would know how to use lethal force when necessary, and, being that she's a forensic pathologist who has a morbid fascination with dead bodies, she would not be repulsed by death, much less taking a life when necessary.

I also get the sense that Menace does not regard himself/herself as being evil. Notice the people he/she intentionally killed were criminals. The female mayoral candidate's death was entirely accidental, with her original intend probably more designed to intimidate her, as was Menace's other attack on Bill Hollister. Someone, like Carlie, who works for the police, would believe her actions are justifiable. What's more, because her father was a cop, she likely feels that she's not doing enough merely pouring over the victims of crime when she could be doing something to active for the cause of justice--such as making sure the right person becomes mayor, for instance.

Also, we've been told that Carlie has a secret about her. Her being Menace would certainly qualify.

Also, think of it in terms of dramatic storytelling. It's obvious that Carlie is being set-up to be Peter's new potential romance, someone he can date in an effort to try and get over Mary Jane when he finds out she's Robert Carr's "mystery girl," especially if we get something like in Spider-Man 2 in which MJ is asked by Carr to marry him. In typical "Parker Luck" fashion, the new girlfriend turns out to be a supervillain, and someone who was characterized as being "sweet and wholesome" not unlike Gwen Stacy. And it wouldn't just impact Peter. Carlie being exposed as Menace would also affect Vin Gonzales and Lily emotionally, not to mention bring possible scandals to the Hollister campaign, Oscorp, AND the NYPD. You have your "shock" quota along with an impact that can affect almost everyone involved with BND. Not to mention reinforce the old notion that shy and attractive women who wear glasses are really wild and crazy bad girls deep down.

Plus, how ironic would it be if the Gwen Stacy stand-in was the same person as the Green Goblin stand-in?

Carlie as Menace could DEFINITELY work.

I've actually gone on record with guessing that she was actually Jackpot.

Though Carlie as Menace could DEFINITELY work.

LMAO! Nevermind that wall of text he wrote that already had me convinced, when I got to that last sentenced, I was sold! If I'm still with ASM long enough to see the outcome, I'd love for Lily to be Menance now!

I have noticed that JRJr's art has been (and I hate to say it) terrible in this arc. For 2 reasons, the first being; most of the panels are just sub-par in composition, as well as the quality of the drawings themselves. And the second reason is because the quality of the art is inconsistent! Like I said, most of the book is sub-par, but there are quite a few panels that blew me away, and is definitely JRJr's best.
I am confident that this is due to the time frame. Perhaps he started with certain panels and quickly did the rest? Or maybe he got a pay cut?

I usually love his work, it's a shame to see it deteriorated for this arc.

I didn't really notice anything apart from Norman looking a little different. I assume perhaps it's the fact that this story is running 3x's a month?

I'd imagine that's the case. Consider that most comic book artists take on average an entire month to do the artwork for one issue, whereas Marvel is now expecting an artist to churn out art for three issues in one month, so it got to be more labor intensive and therefore their usual standards could very well not be up to par as they should be. Heck, it's a miracle Steve McNiven actually managed to finish the first month of Brand New Day on time considering how he was supposively the reason why Civil War was constantly delayed.

For clarification purposes, Carlie Cooper is the Gwen Stacy stand-in. Lily Hollister is the African American Liz Allen.

But with the proper scheduling, JrJr would have been given 6 months to do all six issues because from the way they say it, they are over a year ahead of schedule with plotting, so whoever gets an assignment would be given enough time to churn out their books.

Good point. Although, in some cases, the featured artists do have more than one assignment. After all, John Romita, Jr. is also doing Kick Ass so that would take up some time.

Yes, but in the long run New Ways To Die will be swept under the rug, and the crap BND reminders will come full force after this arc. And New Ways To Die's two Venoms gimick works even less for people like me that realized Venom kinda sucks after age 12. Although Gargan's a better Venom than Brock. Hell I hope Brock get's cancer.

Finally done moving, so did I miss anything fun, or do I have to be the one that starts all of it around here?
