Comics Amazing Spider Man 539 spoilers

its unbelievable how much Marvel's trying to make us forget about the clone saga. They're even afraid to mention the name "Reilly" because it brings chills down their spine. Shameful, just shameful. That pretty much says that Ben reilly aint never comin back fellow spidey nerds. Marvel's tryin to completely erase the clone sgaa from continuity which in my opinion would be a HUGE mistake, but hell i dont write for marvel so what do i know?
I dont care how much Marvel is trying to erase it, Spiderman #75 is still on my top 5, sucha classic classic issue, why are they trying to destroy it??

Because Marvel is being run by a constituency of morons. Btw, you should paste your post in that Reilly thread.

Aside from the art this book was a total waste. Not only does JMS toss continuity out the window, but Marvel lets him do it.
1. May's maiden name is wrong
2. Spidey's webbing dissolves in under an hour
3. Peter wouldn't go to a street thug for info (never has before)
4. No reason to go get the black costume when chances are he has a red/blue one at the motel
5. Spider-sense (even this so called "enhanced" version) is for danger not for finding a specific piece of metal is a sea of little metal parts (I can't see a jeep not dropping a few when it gets tossed through a window and BTW that was way cool)
I could go on. but you all already know what I'm talking about.
The only explanation I can find is that it is being done on purpose for some reason. Maybe a back-door to undo all this if the fans really start to hate it. They may have learned something from the clone saga after all.

i'm curious as well...anyone have an answer to this one?

Bueller?

I was thinking the same thing as Donald (as all of us old codgers do... :yay: :csad: ), and as it's been mentioned already, I think it's because Peter's MOTHER's maiden name was Fitzpatrick, and it's clicking in to all the old timers heads.

I'd just like to say decent issue, continuity errors aside and the first really interesting issue JMS has written since JRjr left.

Oh and I'd like to point out that Spidey has beaten up thugs and used them for information MANY, MANY times in the comics since the '70s. Particularly in the '80s and '90s comics. I mean that was the beginning of Kraven's Last Hunt.

So this was not surprising.

JMS is at fault, because the editors have ZERO power at Marvel today. Or, if you like, blame fat ass, I guess.

Those errors are horrid, and all too common during his entire run.

I agree that there shouldn't be continuity errors (remember Edwin Brock?), especially ones this obvious, but I still loved the issue. I thought the tone was great and Spidey not taking any crap was awesome. I scanned that final page of Spidey and made it my wallpaper, I think Garney outdid himself with that splash page. I can't wait for next issue!

edwin brock.. i mean jesus chirst... when his name was written ot the hospital.. i thout they might have changed the name for security reasons. but wha a hunk of crap.

the backpack was ridiculous..

ugh

u ghu guh ughuguhguhughuguhguhguhuguhguhguhugh ..

I dropped Amazing after the Skin deep arc.I was thinking that maybe after Civil war since I liked the Black Costume I'd get back into it,but after reading these continunity errors I'm not going to bother.I love JMS work up until Sins past. After that I just saw he ran out of good ideas and his run should have ended wth #508.That way when you mention JMS people wpould have thought oh the great Spidey writer not the guy ppl want off the book so badly.Anyways I'll just stick With sensational where continunity matters.

Well, JMS' run on The Amazing Spider-Man is coming to a close in August. So, you won't really have to wait that much longer until you can check out the book again. Because I believe that Jeph Loeb is going to be writing with Phil Jimenez on artwork.

IMO (no prize huntin')

Originally peter designed his web-shooters and the webbing. He's created webbing that doesn't conduct electricity in the past (to battle electro) so why couldn't he have changed the formula again so that it would hold for years, thereby storing his suit?

Also, screenscribe, the spider sense is more than a danger sense and has been used as more for years. A bit of artistic license maybe. Anyway havnt read the issue yet, just responding. :)

"Peter's MOTHER's maiden name was Fitzpatrick, and it's clicking in to all the old timers heads." -- wicked. Thanks Themanofbat, seems like a less glaring, childish error now. But still, it's an error.

I love dark comics, I love dark spider-man -- it's what got me into comics (UK Astonishing spider-man 8 [i think...]: Ben Reilly, different venoms, spider-man was dying and doc ock unmasked him. Dark tones and brilliant art)

I will be buying back in black :)

And Marvel admits it's an error... one that will be corrected in second printings and the trade.

I asked the question a little past midway down the page.

:yay:

Aloha,
Way to go.I think it is VERY important for the JMS bashers to understand that Alonzo is the Editor of the Spidey titles-HE screwed up.All writers have editors that are supposed to check on continuity, spelling etc.
Spidey rules with old timers:whatever:

I think Spideys webbing lasts a week without dissolving now.
He could have just swung by and made sure the costume was there every week.
Maybe going black has been in his subconscious a while now.

Yes Alonzo should have caught that. But don't you think that JMS should have known it was Reilly too?

They should share the blame, obviously...

Besides the mistakes, I can honestly say that I really enjoyed this comic. There was just something about it. Maybe it was Peter's rage that made me like it. I don't know. Etheir way, great comic.

I thought (and I've probably missed something) that Peter burned the black costume that Felicia made for him (the only not-symbiote black costume) in ASM #300. Where does this come from? Do they say in the issue that he made a spare?

Peter actually has more black suits. He wore it back in several occassions after ASM #300

I jsut read this issue and how is it that Peter is able to be in the hospital free like that? He's a wanted criminal. Where is Iron Man, the Mighty Avengers and/or SHIELD? Its not like he's really hiding out in this book
