Comics Amazing Spider-Man #559 spoilers. I'll read it so you don't have to

I'm gonna say that again, because I just re-read it and it caused me to laugh. 1 day of release, and 124 posts. Goooood stuff....
the problem though, is that the thread was made DAYS ago, with a really bad review. Sorry mike, but you let your hate for OMD cloud parts of what you said happened in 559 with what really happened.

Also take in to account that I read the book at the store and wrote the review three hours later. I didn't have the book right in front of me. The parts that sucked did stick out like a sore ******ed thumb.

Good lord in heaven, I purposely stayed away from this thread because I didn't want to be spoiled until I actually read the issue. I especially got excited about it after seeing how many hits the thread got. So I finally picked up and paid for the issue yesterday from a LCS that's close to my work, I will be picking up another copy at the LCS in MD where I have my subscription. so I will be picking up 2, count 'em 2 copies of this issue. (holds up fingers in two position) Anyways, I read the issue last night and I thought it was awesome! It read like a good Spider-man comic. :yay:

Great scene with JJ, who hasn't been interesting since WAAAAAAY before BND, I felt like I was reading the character again.

I didn't really think I would like Paper Doll, but for the moment, she does seem like a neat villain.

Screwball I liked, but was surprised she wasn't in it for very long. Hopefully we see more of her.

I loved the scene with Peter waiting to get shots of Bobby Carr and the whole scene at the club was good. Fun stuff.

So I finally get to read the opinions on this thread and what do we start with, the most universally ******ed review with the worst nitpicking I've ever seen in my life...even the title of it sucked. "I read it so you don't have to." W....T....F.

Has no one here read ASM #194 with the first appearance of the Black Cat...you know....the GYMNAST with no powers, who pretty much made Spidey look like a buffoon in the issue, and she rigged devices to make it look like she had bad luck powers.

What about the Kingpin? Granted he's all muscle but I remember him being pretty fast and giving Spidey a run for his money, and he's just an ordinary human. I know there are others also, but you get the point.

How is it, that this was perfectly acceptable but all of a sudden character like Screwball, who more than anything got lucky, is such a stretch of the imagination. For god's sake she even says Spidey was holding back.

For the record, Black Cat will be in this week's episode of "Spectacular", I'll bet she, the GYMNAST, will gives him a run for his money, and people will knock themselves out saying "it was a great episode! Nothing wrong here!" (And it is a great show)

The issue with the Spider sense is only somewhat valid, but can also be easily explained. Paper Doll wasn't a danger to him, and when the guard konked him on the head he was a bit distracted by Lily.
Spidey himself has said, and I quote "My spider sense is my greatest weapon, when I've been smart enough to listen to it."
Like MOTB said, who is by the way "Royalty by default" so I'd better bow. (bows and does a curtsey for good luck), there has been loads of spider sense inconsistincies in the past, yes even in those issues you probably now hold dear.

Just for the record the new toon, which again I do love, ignores the Spider sense a lot.

Oh yeah and I thought it was explained peter used electromagnetic fields to stick to walls -- why does he need to take his shoes off??? (and no, movie-goers, don't tell me he has little hairs on his hands and feet, that doesn't fly with me, this aint the movies!!)

Now this...I couldn't disagree more with. When I first saw the previews for this particular scene, I was like "Thank you, they finally remembered he needs to take off his shoes to cling to walls." If you read any John Romita issue, or any of those great artists who worked on Spidey until the 90s, he's always had to have the shoes off. In the 90s, and Mark Bagley was especially notorious for this, it seemed like no one would have him do this. For god's sake, he did it in "Spider-man and his Amazing friends"! a cartoon got it right! This is why I like BND their finally getting things right,(though there are still bumps I admit) all the neat little attention to detail that's been sorely missed.

Obviously, Robert Carr's "mystery girlfriend" is going to be Mary Jane.

Next time you might want to put a spoiler tag, cause I actually never considered that.:yay:

Man, I can't believe I wrote so much. :o

Do any of you think spider greg is the only one to have that thought? Thanks for proving my point for me. Keep up with the negative reviews, guys. you generate more interest than I EVER could! Controversy always = GOOOOOD!

Man, I can't believe I wrote so much. :o

You know rather than all that you could have just made a review thread and posted captian stacy rules to keep any negative opinions out. Which most boycotters like myself refrained from firebombing the hell out of. You know from the title this is a negative thread with an anti SOS lean, so why would you go on like that? Just state your different opinon and why you think the way you do. Were you suprised to read that Miken didn't like the issue?

You bring up a legit point about black cat although she wasn't just a fun runner but a master thief and had set up an area to play to her strengths and that was a much younger and less experienced peter parker.

Your point about the kingpin is much less so. Now I know the case can be made that in both these instances pete was holding back but it's the extent at play that matters. Look at Bib for a peter parker kingpin fight that still shows pete holding back (one punch would have killed Fisk if he wanted). Now compare that to a fun runner getting the best of Spider-Man.

I will however say that
the most universally ******ed review with the worst nitpicking I've ever seen in my life...even the title of it sucked. "I read it so you don't have to." W....T....F.
makes you look like a pretty hardcore dick.

I sincerely doubt the black cat in the cartoon is just gonna be a gymnist and make pete look like a sucker with ordinary gymnastic skills. Maybe I'm wrong and if so I'll call ****ty characterization, ****ty characterization.

An finally, a theory isn't a spoiler. If all theories had spoiler tags the majority of everything written here would be blacked out.

Two, I am the resident condescending dick on this board. I've worked very hard for the title. Look at any argument I've ever been in with, say, clones, MOB or especially blader for proof of this.

Roughly translated, that means that you're a pretty even minded guy.

Of course, the other way of looking at that is: You know you're in trouble if Keith Richards tells you to lay off all the drugs.

You know rather than all that you could have just made a review thread and posted captian stacy rules to keep any negative opinions out.
I'm not interested in keeping out negative reviews as long as they're not bias. I posted a negative review about the last issue of Amazing and said what I didn't like about it. And I'm not going to make another thread about the same issue, it's a waste of space.
Which most boycotters like myself refrained from firebombing the hell out of. You know from the title this is a negative thread with an anti SOS lean
I think it's more then "most boycotters",and where's the fun in going along with everyone else? There wasn't a disclaimer saying I couldn't say what I liked about it.
so why would you go on like that?"

I don't know. Why are you going on about what I wrote?

Just state your different opinon and why you think the way you do.

Isn't that what I did?

Were you suprised to read that Miken didn't like the issue?

I'm surprised he's taking the time out of his schedule to write something he wasn't going to like regardless of what it was about.

You bring up a legit point about black cat although she wasn't just a fun runner but a master thief and had set up an area to play to her strengths and that was a much younger and less experienced peter parker.

He wasn't that inexperienced, plus it was 2 issues worth of getting his butt kicked, not 2 pages.

I don't remember any "holding back" in ASM #164. The cover says it all.

I will however say that makes you look like a pretty hardcore dick.

From you, I'll take that as a compliment. But had the review been not been so bias, regardless if he like it or not, I wouldn't have worded it that way. I know that if OMD hadn't happened and the same story had been written with the prior status quo the nitpicking wouldn't be there.

I sincerely doubt the black cat in the cartoon is just gonna be a gymnist and make pete look like a sucker with ordinary gymnastic skills.

The Enforcers did it in the pilot episode.

An finally, a theory isn't a spoiler. If all theories had spoiler tags the majority of everything written here would be blacked out.

You're right, but as a nice gesture I like to put some kind of a warning when I say things like that. It's not a big deal, and I wasn't pissed about it, hence the smiley face.:yay:

You forgot "Hooray beer."

It wouldn't be the first time in the Marvel Universe (or even with Spider-Man) that the bad guy gets away with it.

Like it or not, Norman killed Gwen and he's now working for the government... he got away with it... Doc Ock killed Captain Stacy, and while he's gotten jail time, it's not ever going to take that death away, and Spdiey will feel that pain, thereby making him "get away with murder"...

The difference is, the Stacy's were supporting cast members, not the hero of the story. Also; Goblin was (seemingly) killed for his crime, and Ock had no idea that Captain Stacy (or the child bystander) were down below.

In the current storyline, the villain toyed with the hero, and then completely screwed him over. Worse still; the hero (Peter) has no recollection of it.

This is good storytelling?

Everyone's biased. You are at least as pro on the issue as I am negative. The thread was specifically for people that are boycotting, it wasn't a standard review thread.

I think it's more then "most boycotters",and where's the fun in going along with everyone else? There wasn't a disclaimer saying I couldn't say what I liked about it.

differing opinions are fine but you wrote about it like you were just shocked to see a negative review, did you not read and understand the title and point?

I don't know. Why are you going on about what I wrote?

I hate people the bully with a sense of self entitlement.

Isn't that what I did?

No, you were flaming.

I'm surprised he's taking the time out of his schedule to write something he wasn't going to like regardless of what it was about.

I'm suprised you're taking the time out of your schedule to write about someone's opinion you knew you weren't going to like. So we're both suprised.

He wasn't that inexperienced, plus it was 2 issues worth of getting his butt kicked, not 2 pages.

Well we can debate the level of experience but there have been far more comics with spiderman after that issue then before so we can at least safely say he had less than half the experience he currently has. I never commented on the length of his asskicking, it really doesn't matter.

I don't remember any "holding back" in ASM #164. The cover says it all.

Covers are never a reputable source. I could go on and on about how silly it is to take a cover as anything other than teaser art.

From you, I'll take that as a compliment. But had the review been not been so bias, regardless if he like it or not, I wouldn't have worded it that way. I know that if OMD hadn't happened and the same story had been written with the prior status quo the nitpicking wouldn't be there.

And you were biased against him. The difference is you started namecalling and acting like a child, he merely didn't like the issue.

I like how you assume you know what other people think and would act in situations. It shows a neat mix of arrogance, lack of perspective and foolishness.

The Enforcers did it in the pilot episode.

Yeah three well trained humans with weaponry against a just started out spider-man and suprising him as well. That's not really the same at all. I mean one man had a high tech helicopter.

You're right, but as a nice gesture I like to put some kind of a warning when I say things like that. It's not a big deal, and I wasn't pissed about it, hence the smiley face.:yay:

Oh, you want a warning, here you go: PEOPLE PUT THEIR OPINIONS ON THE INTERNET. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! A guess is just a guess, there's no need to warn people about it.

You forgot "Hooray beer."

None of this merits such a happy endnote, but you apparently pay me more attention than I thought. I don't know if I should be flattered or worried. I think I'll just settle for mildly amused.

Roughly translated, that means that you're a pretty even minded guy.

Yeah, but I revel in my dickishness. I've also never called anyone's personal opinions ******ed let alone "the most universally ******ed". Stupid and wrong sure, but reviews are the way we see an issue and everyone, as long as they elaborate, should get to have their opinion. He went way over the top with the drama. I mean "So I finally get to read the opinions on this thread and what do we start with, the most universally ******ed review with the worst nitpicking I've ever seen in my life...even the title of it sucked. "I read it so you don't have to." W....T....F." is just too much. Plus we've all read much more ******ed stuff than that. I've personally written far more ******ed stuff on virtually a daily basis.

You just love to argue, don't you? It's sickening.

Remember SH12... you're 14 years old, and it's been established that Miken is only 8 years old, so he doesn't know much about anything he's talking about...

:yay:

This is good storytelling?

OMD = major league donkey ball suckage...
BND = good old fashioned Spidey storytelling fun

I won't disagree with you that the villain (Mephisto) ghot away with it in OMD, but Peter and MJ asked for it (they asked for it as much as Marvel Comics wanted them to ask for it), so the bottom line is that you can either accept the new status quo with some explanations coming around the corner or simply stop buying Spider-Man.

I prefer the former.

I hope you can as well.

Cheers...

Mike

I think that the embarrassed smilie is the BJ one... :o :o :o

Hooray beer!!!

Everyone's biased. You are at least as pro on the issue as I am negative. The thread was specifically for people that are boycotting, it wasn't a standard review thread.

It doesn't specifically say "For Boycotters only" If this is the first time I ever came here and wanted to find out the latest on Amazing, that's the thread I would go to. Pro Bnd readers are posting here also.

differing opinions are fine but you wrote about it like you were just shocked to see a negative review, did you not read and understand the title and point?

I wouldn't say shocked, maybe a little annoyed at the level people go to at nitpicking.

I hate people the bully with a sense of self entitlement.
Yea man, so do I.
No, you were flaming.
Huh? I suggest you read the threadstarter's comments below. If I'm flaming, he's atomic bombing.
I'm suprised you're taking the time out of your schedule to write about someone's opinion you knew you weren't going to like. So we're both suprised.
Ladies and gentlemen, the internet equivalent to a dog chasing his tail.
Covers are never a reputable source. I could go on and on about how silly it is to take a cover as anything other than teaser art.
Then read the issue, I have. it's very good.
And you were biased against him. The difference is you started namecalling and acting like a child, he merely didn't like the issue.

I think I have a pretty good idea about the guy after reading posts like this:

Maybe it's saying you can care less than not caring. Like caring in the negatives to emphasize your lack of care.

I've also got some snuff films in a box if you wanna buy those too.

I find the current direction of ASM as enjoyable as a snuff film so anyone that likes the comic should enjoy those too.

No I'm not. People have thanked me for pointing out why the issue is garbage. And you're giving me what I want by posting in this thread. You must feel threatened if you're trying to discourage me. You're not the resident spoiler here anymore. Get over it.

And my personal favorite.

Meet the lowest common denominator this book appeals to. Take pictures fast, because they're a dying breed. Sales dropped another ten thousand probably would've dropped more if not for the Wolverine monkeys. And if people want their nostalgia the era Joe think's he's recreating is collected in several trades and Essentials. The word you're looking for is regression.

This is "merely not liking the issue"? And you call me childish. Maybe my annoyance of reading post after post of this came through my initial thread and went overboard. But I'm surprised that you're defending this. My biggest mistake is lending more importance to the thread starter then he actually deserved. It won't happen again. I'm sure he's smiling gleefully as he reads this.
Oh, you want a warning, here you go: PEOPLE PUT THEIR OPINIONS ON THE INTERNET. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! A guess is just a guess, there's no need to warn people about it.

I'm still not quite sure why you're getting bent out of shape about this, sorry if it bothered you.

None of this merits such a happy endnote, but you apparently pay me more attention than I thought. I don't know if I should be flattered or worried. I think I'll just settle for mildly amused.
I'll let you answer this. Take it away MD.....
I like how you assume you know what other people think and would act in situations. It shows a neat mix of arrogance, lack of perspective and foolishness.

I actually thought the beer thing was funny. That's all.:yay:

Bdeh Bdeh, that's all folks

Now your talking.

LOL! Sorry man, I guess I'm still sensitive about some kid blowing the fact that Darth Vader is Luke's father before I got to see "Empire" all those years ago.
Say whatever you want, it's cool.:yay:

I remember seeing that in the theaters all those years ago, and with that revelation, my brother and I turned to each other and both said, "No Way!!!" Maybe the coolest movie moment for me EVER.
