I have to admit, this was a pretty fun issue. I was a bit disapointed that it didn't reopen the clone saga as I thought it might, but its still a good story. I just hope they don't plan on going where it seems to be heading.

But it wasn't without its problems of course. My main big concern is when Spidey is duking it out with some costumed guy. The guy pulls out an automatic pistol and opens fire. Several citizens are hit and Spidey is only concerned with it "not being blamed on him."

What happened to the Spidey that used to get upset and go all out when citizens got hurt by some idiot?

I swear they are writing this book to get Farmie. This line was take directly from Peter.

"I'm a terminal bachelor in a dead-end job who's got the hots for his cousins."

Haha! Good job Brain trust, because you all know every man has been there! :cwink:

Not only that but it gets even worse....
"I mean the worst thing I've done lately is picture my cousins naked".

I DOUBLE DARE someone to defend that.

Sure, when you look at the whole picture these are minor. But I really think this should have been a regular issue of ASM and not an annual.

I'd give it 3/5.

Doesn't count. They were only Bostonians! :hehe:

Look at the issue again... before Spidey goes after Raptor, he asks the people in the crowd who needs to go to the hospital because he knows some have been shot... they all indicate that they're ok, and they tell him to go after the bad guy...

And he said that line about "blaming him" because Raptor was telling the crowd that it was Spidey's fault...

I really didn't see fault with that situation...

I could post it but I'm not sure if I'd get in trouble or not.
The guy actually responded to the crowd before Peter "the super hero" did.

Peter's response was not immediate, like it really should have been. It was kind of flat...
That's in my opinion though.

over all I still said I thought it was a fun issue.

I looked at it... I see what you're saying...

Though I think Spidey's immendiate reaction was to take the guy's gun away and then try to take him down fast... which didn't turn out that way...

I agree though... very good Annual.

:yay:

Yeah, I'm used to Spidey joking and all, but I also figure he would have taken off the kid gloves at that point and really gotten serious.

(Ever since I read the issue with Firelord I've felt that way.)

I'm actually very interested in seeing where this stuff goes though.
I like Raptor. Same as Mr. Negative, there's more to him than it appears. Good stuff in my book.

Although I liked this story, I wish it were done in regular ASM, seeing how much set up it has. (I'm usually the kind of guy that skips annuals or I'll be lazy and over look it...lol. :o)

Aloha,
This was a fun annual but I remember when annuals used to be as large as 64 pages:word: I guess this year, with the 104 pages of #600, I can't complain.
Spidey rules with MORE!

Yeah thats the main reason I gave it 3/5.
It was about 38 pages.

I'm kinda like....ok, you made me pay for this; here instead of in ASM.
Thanks. :(

Either wise it would have gotten a 4/5 from me.
The mark of a good comic for me is made out of two things,
1: How long it takes me to read it.
2: If the end draws me in to be looking forward to the next issue or (I'm satisfied with the resolution).

Usually with Annuals I'm looking forward to a huge resolution of sorts.

My sarcasm-sense is tingling!

But really?? You don't have any cousins that you have the hots for? I could name a small handful that I've definitely had this same internal conversation with myself about. And really, these are the nieces of his Aunt's, who are of no blood relation at all, it's not THAT horrible for him to be visually attracted to them like that.

Me, too. But I also remember that just about every one of those 64-page books usually had stories that had no effect on Spidey's world at all. At least with this smaller book we actually got something of importance. :)

...so you usually skip the Annuals, which you say are usually something that holds a huge resolution of sorts?

I understand your point with Point #1, but I don't really think that's a fair way to judge the quality of a book. Robert Kirkman said it best in the Letters page from "Invincible #62":

No sir. (Kinda why I brought it up?) I don't even like girls that resemble family.
But really I was mentioning that Farmie's not going to be too happy about it. He went from being married to checking out his cousins.

Good point about the no blood thing though.

Yup. The only Annuals I have are ASM annual 2000 and 2001.
2000 didn't impress me, and I picked up 2001 because I thought it was going to resolve the stalker plot. (oddly enough they did that in Peter Parker Spiderman. So I never saw the true ending until years after)

That's pretty much why I skip them now.

Oh I never underestimate the artist. Silent issues can prove just as effective as wordy issues. and sometimes wordy issues can be a bad thing.
It's a pretty broad topic, but the length and anticipation to get to the ending of a comic as well as the need to see whats going to happen next are the two most important things to me. That doesn't undermine anything else though. I just meant if I brush through something without dissecting it, I don't really care for it.

EDIT: Earlier when I used Kirkman as an example you said it was a bad idea.
You said his writing is mainly one dimensional and a slugfest...now your trying to use his quote and reflection of his own book against me??

So... you skip annuals because of two shoddy, consecutive annuals from the same terrible Spidey era (written I think by the same shoddy writer). Er... okay. All Spider-Man comics from 2000 to mid 2001 sucked anyway (okay, with the possible exception of one or two decent stories by Jenkins, but he didn't do either annual).

Seeing as those are the only recent ones since the Jackpot annual.

I have a pretty good reason for usually not picking them up.:cwink:

I guess being that I'm someone like me who DOES have a couple very attractive cousins (2nd and 3rd cousins, I should say! :p), I wasn't offended by it at all and I actually laughed along with it thinking "I know your pain, man". But then again, I was also at that time picturing those drawings of those imaginary girls naked and doing all sorts of nasty things to each other, so who am I to judge? :D

lol Yup. I first said that Kirkman's use of supporting characters might not be the best example of how to have well-fleshed-out characters, and now I'm using Kirkman as an example of why the number of words-per-page in a comic shouldn't have any effect on the quality of it. I don't really see the hypocracy in that, just the irony.

Yeah, I probably should of explained in greater detail.
Some books have taken me ages to read
like "Batman: War games"

but not because I liked it so much. I actually bought it in 06 and I still haven't finished it. :oldrazz:

LOL @ cousin sexiness discussion above.

Anyway... best SPIDER-MAN comic I've read in a long time. And I have already been enjoying the BND era.

I was actually completely satisfied with what we got this year. Just and awesome issue.

Never ignore sexy women. :cmad:
.............:o

You know I just noticed not alot of people get to use the angry emotion alot.

What is it for? No one ever uses it when they throw insults around on SHH!
Imagine if this guy had a knife in his hand.
and he'd be like, surrounded by ninjas and everything.
That's pretty scary.

GRRRRRR :cmad::up:

HE IS STRONGER THAN STEEL
AND MOVES FASTER THAN A WHIRLWIND.

SOMETIMES HE HIDES IN MUD.
OTHER TIMES HE TRANSFORMS HIS SHAPE
LIKE AN EVER CHANGING CLOUD.

ALTHOUGH HIS FIGHTING SPIRIT BURNS
LIKE FIRE, HIS BODY IS CALM AS
STILL WATER.

SHOULD SHINOBI FAIL BEFORE
COMPLETING THE MISSION, HE WILL
DISAPPEAR BEFORE THE DAWN AND
VANISH FOREVER.

KEEP THIS KNOWLEDGE IN YOUR HEART
AND MIND.

'SECRET MANUAL OF OBORO NINJITSU'

Man....I should write at DC.

God, I loved it when Raptor mentioned "Ben Reilly" to Peter. It just felt like it affected us all, lol, you know what I mean? Looking foward to the future of this Ben Reilly situation.

I know the issue glossed over a lot (like Peter's brotherly connection made in the later stages of The Clone Saga) but feel for the sake of new readers, only the information most vital to the story and upcoming arc, were presented. Not a bad tactic considering no trades are available. As long as nothing contradicts what we know of from the full original story, I'm all for it. Ben did upend Peter's life... I reckon though, that he's buried the fonder memories so that Ben isn't another eternally mourned loss in his life.
