Anderson, Hoffman Reteaming on Master

Wow! I'm really suprised that this didnt get killed by the Hollywood suits! I can imagine a lot of people there do not like that this is getting made.

Universal was interested but then pass because partially the script and the $35 million budget. It's really all thanks to Megan Ellison (what a hero) since she picked it up after lying about for some time and are financing this and Inherent Vice. The Weinsteins got the worldwide rights but really they're just tagging along for the ride since this wouldn't happened without Ellison.

As if we even needed anymore reasons to watch the film and along came this news.

I'd go a step further and say that Jonny Greenwood and Thom Yorke should do the soundtrack together. :wow:

A friend of mine was an extra on the film since it was shooting in the Bay Area. She didn't really have any tidbits but did describe Amy Adams as one of the most adorable people she's ever seen

She honestly seems like one of the nicest women working in Hollywood nowadays. I'm sure she has her bad days like everyone else, but she seems like a genuinely nice person who hasn't let fame get to her head.

Her fiance and her child are lucky to have someone like her.

It's mostly actors and a few producers who are Scientologists. None of the CEOs of the major film studios are part of the Ron Hubbard cult, as far as I know.

But anything with a religious theme are risky. Adding fuel to the fire is a movie about a religious cult akin to Scientology -- especially since the director had previously worked with notorious Scientologist Tom Cruise on Magnolia.

There's something very John Huston about this film. I hope it makes it in theatres before 2013. The sooner, the better.

This would be a serious Oscar contender next year. Can't really go wrong with the cast and director.

Megan Ellison replied to Cigarettes & Red Vines (as some of you guys know, it's a well-known PTA fan site) via twitter regarding a release date for the film:

I know you guys are waiting on a release date for 'the Master', and it's still a bit early, but I'd keep my eyes on October.

So, either it's set for a wide release around that time or perhaps a premiere at NYFF, either one of them is possible.

Although it's frikkin PTA movie , it does bother me a bit that they are going to release this movie during the awards season.
I mean c'mon guys. Have the balls to show a movie that doesn't rely on awards to sell itself.
All your doing is basically making type casting this as an Oscar Bait movie.

I dont see the problem with this. Its marketing, and marketing is just about making money. There is no reason to make risks if you dont have to.
