The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Andrew Garfield IS Spider-Man! - Part 1

Yes, it is indeed puzzling. Especially since I've heard a lot of complaining about crying PP here in the past.

many felt he was very relatable and that was most likely what webb and co wanted for peter and succeeded

and even more felt that he wasn't at all relatable, or at least in tune with the image they already had of peter.

and EVEN MORE didn't realise peter could be a relatable character till garfield played him ;) :P

But in all seriousness come on lets not get into "even more felt" as there is no proof to suggest otherwise, its fair to say garfield has won over a bunk of audiences, maybe not all but enough and thats all that matter

Yes, people shouldn't confuse "small but vocal minority" for "most people didn't like Garfield's Peter." They're not the same thing.

there's no way to tell if it was a "small but vocal minority" that didn't like him, though. shh mostly liking him =/= the general audience. where i am, for example, people just don't accept anyone other than tobey, no matter what.

It's a common trait of the gaming industry where I work - the most vocal people are quite sadly those who are irate or unhappy - they don't represent the majority, they're just the loudest

Since when were we discussing Maguire's Peter Parker? This is for Garfield.

I am happy with Garfield being Spidey and I hope he does the job untill TASM4

I'm just glad he makes skinny nerds cool. As a skinny nerd he's like my Jesus lol

I've looked the same for years, now suddenly I'm a hipster lol

The same happened to me...

Didn't feel like putting this in the general discussion thread, but Andrew's trainer talked about how they got him more in shape for TASM2.

“He’s not that small teen that he was in the first film, so to make him older, we had to mature the muscles and make them thicker and denser, while sculpting the superhero-style body: really nice wide shoulders, big thick back, and a really skinny waist,” says the trainer, who previously worked on films including Thor and The Green Hornet.

I liked reading this too.

But Garfield’s most intense training routines were used in preparation for the film’s punishing fight scenes.

“We created workouts that made him feel so tired and beat up that by the time he got on set, he was already in the place he needed to be.

“We did it by having him just constantly lifting and moving, wearing him down mentally and physically.”

^ Whoa. Way cool.

I totally believe it as he looks way bolder, and bigger in this movie. Especially in his upper body.

The second part is most interesting. Can't believe they both physically and mentally wore him out right before fight scenes. That must be such hard work. Whew.

I dont get this hate for Tobey's Peter Parker

I mean I myself prefer Garfield's PP/Spider-man but Tobey did a fine job and was very relatable in the first two films

He had a bad cry face but lets face it,nobody looks good when crying. And anybody will cry when his Uncle dies or his best friend dies

The majority seemed to prefer Tobey's version as Its clear from the Box Office and reception of the movies

Yet as it stands, Tobey has 3 films. Andrew only has 1 so far.

I don't get what people are saying, saying that Tobey as Peter constantly cried? Andrew as Peter cried in the movie and I'm sure it was more than once!!

There's actually alot of hate for andrews version . The times were i watch TASM scenes on youtube theres always the post that says " Garfield version sucks Tobey so much better" Usually has 25+ likes . IMO it might have to do with American actors getting overlooked and hiring British instead . Some people are prejudice in that regard.

it's mostly nostalgia. since a lot of people grew up with the raimi movies, they tend to defend them. it has little to do with the movie or the actors themselves.

It does for me. Spider-Man 2 is clearly my fave of the franchise because it is a great movie. Maguire is my Peter Parker but also like Garfield. They're playing different variations on the same character. Emma Stone is clearly the better female lead in comparison to Dunst.

oh, absolutely, i just mean the general hate tasm gets usually comes from that. the people that just genuinely didn't like it or that just prefer the previous ones tend to be pretty reasonable, it's mostly the nostalgia guys that scream bloody murder at it.

Some even refuse to see the reboot films despite claiming to be Spider-Man fans. Which seems odd to me. I'm always up for seeing diferent interpretations of characters.

I prefer Andrew as Peter/Spidey. But I'll always enjoy Tobey's work as the character as well.
