Angel season 6

Me, too. I think it would've been better if they devoted a full issue to each character.

That'd just have prolonged the real story even more.

Had they simply started with this "First Night" stuff, I'd of been happy to read an issue about each character. But now I'm less worried about what's already done and more worried about how things will play out.

I wish they would have used Angels "heroic" theme more often in the series. You know what I'm talking about, the theme from the first episode when we see Angel walking off into the alley, when he drove Lindsey's truck through the front of the house in Epiphany, kicking Lindsey's ass, etc etc.

Yeah, that was pretty lame, but then again, Gunn was always a bit of a dumbass. :o

I'm not getting Gunn's characterization.

Especially the whole "sent me to die" gripe. I thought all of the characters had more or less accepted that they were going to die prior to the closing actions of "Not Fade Away."

So?

I didn't think that made him stupid.

Yeah, I was just watching Power Play and Not Fade Away the other day and Angel makes it very clear that they are all going to die. The motive is weak. "I'm an evil vampire and want to kill you because of that," would make a better motive.

It doesnt make him stupid, but it does make him not himself. Gunn was fully aware that he was going to die, yes. But this is not really Gunn anymore. At the most, as far as they mythos are concerned, it's a demon in Gunns body. At the least, it's all the negative parts of Gunn saturated and in control. All the pettiness, hate, etc. So while alive Gunn may have been noble and willing to sacrifice, vampire Gunn probably isn't.

Evil Gunn is pretty ******ed. It's such a bad, clichéd plot. I hope he dies soon.

I thought this last issue was so boring. Forget Whedon, I can't even imagine Lynch thinking that filling half of it with the adventures of random characters we've never met before could have been a good. And then the "Spike: After the Fall" ads started popping up, and each was like a twist in the knife.

I agree. I'm tired of it. Honestly, they should have just let him die and not brought him back.

I think the big problem with this story so far is that they seem to have felt the need to include every significant/quasi-significant character into the story. While people may have liked Kate, Nina, Gwen, and Groo, they really aren't necessary to the story and just seem to clutter things up. I mean I was cheering the return of Groo when he showed up, but honestly I wouldn't have cared if he never appeared.

I agree, the last issue was amazingly boring. It was nice seeing what happened to the main characters immediately after LA went to hell, but random other characters don't really do it for me. The book needs to get back to the main cast and get on with the main plot already.

I think next issue the main plot picks up again.

Thank God.

I sure hope so. This is starting to pull a Buffy and get bogged down in the unnecessary stuff at the expense of the overall story.

Just read issue #9. Wouldn't mind this sticking to its original maxi-series format, because with what it is now, I'm not sticking around for an ongoing.

#9 seemed really muddled and confusing. Nick Runge really needs to stick to covers, too.

I still have no idea how Fred came back.

Apparently, being punted to Hell has ****ed up Illyria's mind and allowed Fred to start influencing her. Seeing Wesley provided enough of a shock for Fred to completely take over the body for a little while. Looks like Fred's soul wasn't as consumed as they were told.

Though, Illyria can assume Fred's form and personality at will in Season 5. Could be possible that she can't control her assumption of Fred in that hell dimension.

Back then, though, she was just acting, playing out a part. Here, it seems like she fully believes that she is Fred. It isn't necessarily Fred's soul come back, it could simply be that Illyria's going insane, which wouldn't be a first.

Nothing against Fred, but I prefer it not. Death's been cheapened enough.
