A cop was shot this time, as well as another, unidentified victiom. Suspect still at large.

I just posted it in the lounge, but I am currently talking to a friend who is now locked in her dorm. She heard the shots a second after she walked inside.

I had friends attending VT when the shooting happened in '07. Hope she remains safe!

That's terrible, and I can never understand why gunners would target schools and innocent students & faculty members. It's just an unfathomable crime.

I'm at VCU and all I have instead of crazed shooters is an army of hipsters.

Virginia Tech was supposed to be appealing a $55,000 fine today. The fine concerned how they handled the shootings in 2007. I wonder if the shooting today is related to this at all (ie: a disgruntled, mentally unbalanced person being upset that the school is claiming they didn't do anything wrong).

That's crap, the first shootings would very much have been seen as an isolated incident. Didn't look like a masacre waiting to happen because I'm sure they were plenty of other "targets" in a dorm.

Well, I agree that there’s no way anyone could have known the dorm incident would have turned into the massacre that it did, but I do think that the school should have handled the dorm situation better. Letting students know what happened as soon as possible should have been the right course of action, instead of waiting for two hours. Also, having the school go on lock down while they figured out what happened in the dorm/tried to nab the shooter also seems like a no-brainer.

However, it’s always quite easy to play the “hindsight is 20/20” game; which is pretty much the school’s argument here.

Shame that one of the few people with guns was shot. My prayers go out to the families of these people. I hope they catch the killer

Police have determined "there is no longer an active threat or need to secure in place," Virginia Tech has said on its Twitter feed. The posting told students and staff they could now "resume normal activities."

Doubtful. They probably just don't think he's in the immediate area anymore. They'd have said if he was caught or gunned down.
