Another theater shooting! One dead, at least two injured

Just ban backpacks, large handbags, and trench coats. Frisking and metal detectors are too much but make it hard to carry in huge weapons. I would also hire armed security guards to randomly patrol. That's minimal.

Those ideas aren't out of the question. There are numerous stadiums that do that already, so theaters might have to act accordingly if this keeps happening.

The only thing probably stopping theaters from installing metal detectors and frisking people is fear of running customers off. Cause we all know that people would start *****ing about their rights and causing a scene anout it.

The assailant should never have been allowed to bring two backpacks into the theater in the first place. When I worked at a theater that was a pretty well enforced protocol. Now that doesn't stop someone from bringing in a small pistol, but still.

Its getting old seeing stories like this. When is the government going to do something about this? How many times does this need to happen in order for change to take place? Gun laws need to be addressed and so does mental health. The world we live in is out of control.

People always looking up for change, never to the side.

Same at my local carmike theater. Purses are ok. A handbag is ok. A coat is ok. A backpack in the daytime monday-thursday might go unnoticed. But a backpack at night on the weekend will get your ass stopped at my local theater. The cops at the theater and the staff dont dick around on the weekends.

Carrying two packs in should have been a major red flag no matter when it was. No one needs two backpacks at the movies unless they are suffering from some terminal illness or need oxygen tanks.

Stadiums have tens of thousands of people and sports stars in the same area. Theaters have a couple hundred. Huge difference. I would stop going to the movies if I had to do airport security.

The Caucasian community really needs to come forward and condemn these actions.

This.

I'm not asking for the TSA in our movie theaters, but if someone brings an unnecessarily large bag (like a bookbag), then I definitely at least want it to be checked out.

There's no reason to bring a big bag anyway (unless you want to smuggle food in, which I am also against, by the way).

I've been to the theatres with a bag many times. I like to carry things.

The USA should stop with the bandaids (banning backpacks lol) and start dealing with the underlying social problems.

Way too much effort, and people are looking for any reason why they don't have to admit it is a social problem. Easier to just play it off like some isolated crazies.

Stadiums usually host one event per day. A multiplex with films running for 12 hours might well have as many or more people come through the doors that day. Regardless of the number of attendees, walking through a metal detector and a pat down takes about 5 seconds to do. It's hardly a big deal.

Stuff like this really makes me worry that someone's gonna try something like this at another upcoming movie that's guaranteed to have a lot of people at the showing. IE Star Wars, Batman vs Superman etc.

One thing they could do is stop highlighting these incidents over the news. It tends to generate "copy-cat" incidents. It's entirely too convenient that two of these events happened just as the James Holmes trial has been on the news.

I am thinking movie theaters are going to have to beef up security permanently and make sure they are armed at all times. They should also install metal detectors at theaters going forward. I would definitely at least have extra police and security at all movie theaters nationwide for the next two BIG movie releases this year Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 2 and Star Wars Episode 7 And early next year with Batman Vs Superman.

I bring my backpack to my theater all the time...How will i sneak in
my footlong sandwhich and my $1.75 soda....ALL CHEAPER THAN THAT HIGH PRICED MOVIE FOOD:cmad::cmad::cmad:

The theatres in the hood already have security posted up. It's when you go to the ones in the city or, and I'll just say it, the white suburban "good" theatre is when security is lax.

"Hi, I'm here to see Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation."

"Right. Please open your backpack for a security search. And line up over there for the pat-down. Next!"

"Hi, I'm here to see Fantastic Four."

"Wow, really? Okay, then go on right ahead."

But what about ..."

"Trust me, your day's about to be ruined anyway, just go right on ahead."

Stuff like this is the reason why I stopped going to midnight premiers anymore or wait a week or two before going.

In spite of their high profile they are still a very, very rare thing to happen, which is why when they do everyone overacts with how dangerous it is. Though when the media sensationalizes it like this it does cause an increase in copycats looking to have their name or cause published in the news.

I am not afraid of going to the theater, even in the "dangerous" parts of town but for me to go to the theater there would have to be movies I want to see in the theater instead of waiting for the DVD release.
