Ant-Man and The Wasp Ant-Man and the Wasp Official User Review Thread - SPOILERS

Probably the worst MCU movie since Thor: The Dark World (though this movie has a more likable cast of characters than T:TDW). Keep in mind that I haven't disliked a single MCU movie, though.

The Negatives:
-The run time. This movie did not need to be 2 hours long; 90 minutes would have been just fine. The 2-hour run time affected the pacing in a negative way, I think. There were a few spots that felt just a liiiiitttttle bit slow and drawn out. Easily my biggest gripe with the movie.

-Sonny Burch could have been completely cut from the movie and I wouldn't have noticed. I felt this character went nowhere past his first scene. Pointless.

-I don't really "feel" the romance between Scott and Hope. I feel like they're paired up together just because. That's not completely a bad thing though, as I feel that the main relationships to focus on in these movies are the father-daughter ones (with Scott and Cassie, and then with the Pyms).

The Positives:
-Paul Rudd is still just so gosh-darn likable as Ant-Man. In fact, I think that all of the actors and main characters are likable.

-I liked how this movie was essentially a mix between a heist movie and a rescue movie.

-No big "laugh out loud" moments for me in this movie, but I had quite a few chuckles throughout. This is one of those "easy breezy" movies to sit through, and that's fine.

-DAT MID-CREDITS SCENE THO. The movie went from "easy breezy" to "HOLY S***" in no time.

Overall ... The movie is fine (nothing more, nothing less). I like the first Ant-Man movie a lot more, personally. And while I think that these past two movies have been good for what they are ... There's a part of me who is still mourning over the fact of what these movies COULD have been if Edgar Wright had not walked away ... Oh well!

Let it go

How many times do we have to hear about how Wright didn't want to embrace the bizarre science, Quantum Realm, and other wacky comic stuff before we accept we're better off without him? I love his work. But I would never trade the stuff we've gotten from Reed, someone who genuinely loves superheroes to get him back.

We wouldn't have gotten a sequel for a Wright AM until 2020 anyways.

Let it go

Dude, I literally said that I like these movies for what they are. If I was so ******** about Wright's departure, I would be hating on these movies nonstop ... Which I'm not. At all.

Edgar Wright is a fantastic director though (one of the best right now, to be frank). I can't help that I see untapped potential with these movies that I THINK the original director could have tapped into. I think that BOTH the MCU and Wright made a mistake parting ways.

So, no. Not "letting it go." Especially since I am able to critique, criticize, AND compliment these movies without mentioning the original director anyway. I can compare this movie to the first Ant-Man (which I think is a delightful movie) and think it's not nearly as good, and I can compare this movie to the rest of the MCU and think it is easily placed in the "lower tier."

Fun movie, Wasp was awesome.

Her getting dusted really irritated me though, a waste.

Enjoyed it, but the first film was better by far. This also wasn't as funny as I was led to believe. Was hoping we'd see Foster suit up, but oh well; at least he was set up.

7/10

That was a fun ride. Exactly what I was looking for. Great humor, lots of heart and plenty of awesome size-changing action. The movie absolutely flew by for me, I still wanted more when the credits started rolling. Rudd is clearly having way too much fun (and so is Douglas). In fact, the whole cast is just such a joy to watch. Easily my favorite Marvel movie this year. 9/10

Enjoyed it a lot, wonky pacing aside. Though some of the humor just makes me realize how much funnier Gunn is than Reed, and how much funnier Taika is than both of them. But part of me is that I like Taika's humor more.

Ghost was several scenes short of becoming a really good villain. They should've treated her more like Killmonger - a vengeful character lashing out at the world for the traumas of childhood. I was expecting her to be more child-like, which could've been nice - Janet is the adult stuck in the Quantum Realm, and Ava is the child stuck in there. (Not to say that she isn't, but they could've delved stronger in there I think) The SHIELD backstory was unnecessary, and I'd rather have her perhaps think her parents were alive in the Quantum Realm or be more focused on getting revenge on Hank for causing her parents' death inadvertently. A few more scenes with Fisburne wouldn't have hurt as well. The movie had a strong theme of fathers and daughters, and I think they could've beefed that part a bit more. Ava needed to converse more with Team Ant-Man/Wasp.

I had a great time watching this movie. I really liked the first Ant-Man movie, and this film was a excellent follow-up. The characters were all very likable and memorable, the action and sci-fi elements were quite entertaining, and the humor was great and was a breath of fresh air. I also liked the continued emphasis on family love, which gave us some touching and endearing scenes.

Wasp in particular was great, and it was a real treat to see Evangeline Lilly in all her cool action scenes. It was definitely a satisfying payoff to the buildup of Hope becoming Wasp. And Paul Rudd seemed to be having the time of his life as Ant-Man.

This movie's smaller scale in terms of the story provided a nice contrast with the huge galaxy-spanning stage of Infinity War, which shows that Marvel is very skilled at handling both larger-scale and smaller-scale stories.

I give the movie 9/10.

[Blackout]Did she? I was under the impression we only saw Hank and Janet were dust. What if she is just in shock right out of frame and Avengers 5 begins with her jumping into frame and walking Scott through this?[/blackout]

Come on, now.

Super fun movie and nice pallet cleanser from the hyper serious Black Panther and Infinity War movies. I like movies where you can tell that the entire cast is having fun.

Great movie that the whole family can enjoy...I feel like a commercial.

I thought this was better than the first movie, and might actually infiltrate my top 5 MCU movies. Big on imagination, which is a thing to say after Infinity War.

Liked it better than the first. Don't know for, like, totally shure why the movies got crowded in, but ain't sweatin' the small stuff.

Glad you all enjoyed it! I can't wait to see it again in a few weeks.

The mid-June to mid-July schedule more packed than usual so the optimal spot would have been early August (like GotG) but Disney has Christopher Robin opening there instead. The rest of August seems like a bad time to release films since nearly all the top OWs in that month are within the first two weekends. September and October just haven't been great for big OWs so that leaves November as the only potential move down. Only problem is I don't see AM&W being a great fit there so I guess this weekend was the best slot for it on the schedule. Plus, with their typical home media release schedule of around 3 months, it would have been cutting close to Captain Marvel's release and it seems like most of the CM preview stuff will end up on AM&W's home release.

Well there you go then. The people at Disney/Marvel might even have a better strategy than we do.....nah....

I really enjoyed that this film is just a simple crime adventure. No one is trying to save the world, they are trying to save Janet, while Ghost is trying to save herself, and it had plenty of weight and importance.

The villains were good, nothing special, but certainly enjoyable. I don't get why every movie Marvel makes gets a lot of commentary about the villain. I thought Ghost was fine playing the antagonist role for most of the film, and I didn't have a problem with the Sonny Burch character. He was funny for the most part, had a little menace to him, didn't really get in the way of the real story. He was fine.

The only real complaint I have is with the handling of Fishburne and Pfeiffer. Two great actors and they were horribly underused, almost like bit players. I am really hoping we see more of them in IW:EG

Ant-Man and the Wasp is a fun ride from start to finish. Is it the best MCU movie? No, but it isn't the worst either. It has a lot of heart, humor, charm and its fare share of cool action pieces.

There are a few things that could've been better or I didn't like but it is great for what it needed to be and it'll be one MCU movie I will watch over and over again.

I thoroughly enjoyed the film. It was a straight-forward story and the themes were very well shown. I felt it had more heart than Ant Man, mainly due to the character interactions that made the team feel more like a family. A few nitpicks, mainly with the science behind Janet's survival and return. Though I expect them to touch on that in later sequels. Also I wish Janet had a little more personality like the comics, but again, maybe in the future.

Also LOVED the first post-credits scene. It was downright chilling and a perfect cliffhanger to lead into A4.

4/5

Mediocre like the first one. Fun, but mediocre.
I feel like the Quantum Realm was just... there, the movie didn't do well exploiting them.

And Marvel needs to time their jokes better as they're getting worse at it. The "truth serum" joke was funny as hell but they dragged them too long it became cringey.

Was not really a fan of the 1st film but since the movie is connected to the MCU, I had to watch this movie and as was expected, it was an okay movie. Just like the 1st one, I don't need to see it the second time.

Also, I agree with Leenie, Walton Goggins' character is unnecessary as well as the step father.

I laughed in some of the scenes and the fight scenes are okay as well.

Lastly, I did not expect Hope to get disintegrated so that is the only "Oh S&^t! moment for me.

Overall, 7/10.

I found myself not caring for the so called "villains" in Ghost and whatever Goggins was doing the guy needs a new agent he is talented but these movies he has been in lately have him doing not a dam things he could have easily been cut and the movie would be the same

but the main characters I love so don't know quite how to say it but I'll say this if the MCU was a Netflix series then this one of the episodes I would skip entirely only seeing the cliffhanger for the next episode

and can someone explain to me how Luis can shrink too without any suit that took me out the movie entirely and how was Janet able to suppress Ghost condition just by touching her?

I love Lilly and Rudd in the roles but this movie was pointless until the mid credit scene
