good to see there are other filmmakers on the hype

been making small films since i was 13
while it hasn't always been the easiest thing to do, i still have a passion for directing/writing, it can be an incredibly hard process when you have minimal funds or a lack of people willing to spend time helping out but it's not impossible

have had a lot of good and bad experiences but its still a good feeling knowing your film gets finished

for editing i really prefer adobe premiere 6 but i had to learn how to use final cut pro 7 at uni then they upgraded to proX which i haaaaaaaaaateeeee

Totally agree on this point, from script to screen, it took me 8 years to get my feature film finished on and off at weekends, evenings whilst I ran a 'normal' 9-5 job to keep roof over head.

It's all about dedication, peserverence and believing in what you are doing and you'll get there.

Well done everyone who makes a film of any length or genre, much respect, it takes a huge amount of effort and time but as said, the reward is huge.

The sheer joy of seeing my film on a cinema screen at our premiere on a 30ft square screen was just a life affirming feeling.

So true. For me the hardest thing is finding people not only willing to help but are passionate and don't go back on their word and let other things get in the way all the time. It's hard not getting phone calls returned, getting no showed for auditions and meetings. Sometimes friendships end over such things, but luckily that phase is over for me and I have a group of people I can depend on and trust to be there when I need them. I just shot a film last month and I have another one being worked on that we shot in December. But I want more. It's hard but it can be done. I'm finally about the get the last piece of equipment I need and after getting a bonus at work I am already striving and planning the next film. I plan to make two or three more films this year. Years worth of planning will pay off.

Edius - it's used by industry broadcasters here in the UK and I used to edit my feature film, I know most packages' structure and presentation are much the same, I just found it with my editor, that is was more 'intuative' and physically more helpful to use, most packages seem (in my eyes anyway) to go out out there way to be difficult to access various tools or menus, where as I found with Edius it's very 'hands on' and user friendly. I'd reccomend it.

Went out and bought my first camera yesterday, a Canon EOS 70D. Gonna use it to start making my own short films. It's great and all the footage looks crisp 1080p, just trying to get the hang of everything it does. What other types of cameras do people use?

Thought of including this for many a year, and it's now 9 years (10 years in Dec 2022) since it's completion but felt as it's STILL a huge part of my creative life, very much a reason for including in this thread.
