Hi,

There's one thing about X-Men 2 that always bugged me, even more so upon repeated viewings.

It's made VERY clear that Stryker controls mutant's minds using the secretions on the back of their necks. For example, he warps Cyclop's mind and makes Cyclops turn against his lover, Jean Grey. Now we all know Cyclops is a good guy. Nightcrawler (who was also brain washed) was also a good guy, but was brainwashed into assassinating the President.

So...with that said...

Wolverine fights and KILLS Lady Deathstrike. Isn't that WRONG? How did Logan know whether or not she was just another good guy (girl) who was brainwashed into helping Stryker? For all Logan knows, he just killed an innocent person (just like Cyclops was innocent, just like Nightcrawler was innocent).

I know I'm reading too deeply into this. I know Lady Deathstrike is a villain in the comics. But according to X-Men 2 the movie, Deathstrike, just like Cyclops and Nightcrawler, was being brainwashed, so I feel like Logan made a horrible mistake when he decided to use deadly force against her.

Following that logic, Jean Grey should have murdered Cyclops while he was brainwashed and Nightcrawler should have been executed immediately by the X-Men despite him being brainwashed into hurting the President.

yeah, so that part of X2 always annoyed me.

Wolverine made an unwise, dishonorable choice.

what do you think?

Greg

While I do feel bad that she died, I don't think he had any other choice.

What was he suppose to do? Knock her out and hope that she isn't a crazy villain when she wakes up?

Oh, and did he even know about the brainwashing?

I feel bad when Lady Deathstrike died because it made it impossible for her to be any kind of a character thanks to the completely non-existant character development for her.

I felt bad because she didn't have any lines.:o

I felt absolutely no remorse for Deathstrike.

Yes and no. I dislike that she died... but then again, it's not like she makes for much of a character or would be of much use later on.

Her most interesting stuff (prior to her becoming Deathstryke) can be fleshed out in the Wolverine spin-offs... other than that, she's a broken record.

"I got claws to exact misguided revenge upon Wolverine..." *repetitious fighting ensues*

What should have happened:

WEAPON X ROOM AT DAM
Stryker - 'I thought you were one of a kind. I was wrong.'
Wolverine - 'What?'
Stryker (looking or pointing at Deathstrike) - 'You were in love with her once.
You broke her heart. She came to me....for vengeance.'

...then she reveals her claws and they fight...

Simple. Why it wasn't done is beyond me.

Oh god yes, because that wouldn't have caused a million "WTF?!?" from fans and regular viewers alike...similar to Storm's "Because I am afraid of them" it would've been an attempt to give some substance, but superficial at best...no mention whatsoever would be much better and if they wanted them to have a history, explore it in the spin-off they knew was gonna happen at some point...thank god they didn't adress anything between those two. I don't mean to sound too b*tchy X-Maniac. :)

No offence taken. You're entitled to your opinion - and you might be right. It could ask more questions than it answers. On the other hand, it might work. But you raise a good point.

I never thought about this isssue, but now that I read this thread I agreed. Killing other mutants by the x-men is an issue that hasn't been treated by them in the films, or by Xavier. I don't think he likes so much the idea of Logan killing mutans in each movie.

I remember some rumours about Singer bringing Lady D. back in X3 (and possibly making her the cyborg she was in comics).

Oh yes, Logan absolutely shouldn't have killed a woman who was trying to kill him with 5 claws in each hand. Absolutely, because we all remember how he never kills soldiers in X2, or how he never kills dozens of mutants in X3. Logan didn't know she was brainwashed. I'd kill her too.

Deathstryke was nothing more than a number on Logan's count, and it doesn't bother me the least, just like I'm not bothered by Callisto's death, or Quills/Arclight death, or Toad's death. In CB movies, you HAVE to have characters who are only there to die.

Why xavier hasn't talked about deaths to his team? it's kind of weird... or exactly a fault of the scripts. He is pacific so don't like violence, but most important, deaths.

Sometimes you have to kill in order to not be killed.

flavio, everyone know that. That's not the issue. The x-men could stop the enemies without killing them. But they do what they want. And if I not remember bad, in some comics Xavier talked about it.

How can Logan stop an enemy? cutting the legs? arms? Mutilation is no worse than death...he is an animal by himself. Him not killing people would be theme for complaints through the whole eternity. Though I agree Storm was kinda...a murderer. She killed both Toad and Callisto.

Besides, the whole point of the X-men may be taken down. If Xavier wants piece, why the hell he builds jets, weapons and trains his students to be warriors? Shouldn't he teach them and lead them to debates more than to wars? It's like Bush wanting peace on Iraq through the war. Senseless. So we just have to suspend belief a little. The X-men kill to not be killed, ok, not best attitude, but still not the worst.

For the umpteenth time, Toad did not die!! He was supposed to pop in X2 under Stryker's control.

The X-Men aren't exactly killing people. Besides, we're talking about Wolverine here. The man doesn't take orders, and he hasn't been shown to "kill" unless necessary. Wolverine has his own set of rules, and he doesn't take lectures very well. Can you imagine Xavier trying to have a sit-down with Wolverine about killing people?

I completely agree. I never considered characters like Toad or Sabretooth, or even Callisto to have been killed-off.

Seriously... Callisto has smoke going out of her piercing. Toad is dead. He was supposed to appear. He did not. He's dead. Sabretooth might not be, because HIS POWER allows him to recover. But I don't think a person like Callisto can survive 20 seconds of Lightning DIRECTLY on her. Come on, guys, a 1 second strike of Lightning can kill a person...

and you know what? I bet that if Toad reappeared people would be screaming "ZOMG!!1! Strom zucks! She cant eevn kill a Z class mutant like Toad!!! Boo hoo!!"
So, since it's a no-no situation, I prefer Toad dead.

it would have been nice if that did happen

but it didn't :csad:

hopefully she'll be in the Wolverine spin off
