March 16, 2001 — Dark Horizons is reporting that Aaron Eckhart, previously rumored to play the Dark Knight himself, may actually play the crucial role of the young Commissioner Gordon.

That's funny.

I didn't even know Eckhart back then. He must have been pretty young back in 2001 - too young for even a "young" Gordon.

So many characters and actors could've been interchanged over the years. Imagine if Bale got the part of Robin in Forever! Or Cillian Murphy got the role of Batman. I wonder who would've played Scarecrow?

Oldman could've been Ra's, or Joker. And I originally assumed Morgan Freeman was definitely playing Gordon (I wonder if that was the original idea), just because I never thought Lucius would've ever had a big enough role to justify Freeman's presence (and it played to his recent type, after Alex Cross and Dt. Somerset).

I bet Bale is happy he wasn't in Batman Forever, it probably would have killed his chances of being Batman!

I'd never heard of Eckhart back in 2001. That lasted until Thank You For Smoking came out.

Dang...I don't remember that rumor. That's pretty cool though. I'd like to see Guy Pierce do something in the franchise. Hopefully we have another Nolan movie for him to join!

Anyone remember when Justin Timberlake was rumoured to be Harvey?
I just about crapped a brick.

Interesting. It quite ironic he was consider for 2 different roles before Nolan was hired. Funny that 6 yrs. after this news happend, he was pick for Dent. :woot:

I remember when "Kurt Russell' was an idea being thrown around for Batman. And this was during Arnofsky's "Year One" days...

"Year One"...and they were thinking about Russell, a guy who looks OLDER than Clooney, to play a YOUNGER Batman...

I heard that rumor was false and Bale never auditioned for Batman Forever.

I remember someone here mentioning Dennis Quaid as Gordon.

Chris Cooper turned down Gordon.
Dennis Quaid turned down Gordon.
Then it was Oldman that took it.

Anthony Hopkins was the first choice for Alfred (rumor from AICN that called this and Freeman playing a "scientist")

Russell Crowe and Daniel Day Lewis were rumored for Ra's

Katie Holmes was the only actress that agreed to audtion for the role of Rachel (the others wouldn't, I can't remember who they were, I think Natalie Portman was one of them)

Heath Ledger turned down the role of Peter Parker in the first Spiderman movie
